Notice the Sunday Freeroll at the Excelsior. It says for players who have played cash games or tournaments. To all others $25. It doesnt matter if it was totally free in 2005 because they still handed out real money and it's against the law for anyone under 18 to gamble. I guess it doesn't matter anyways because they have Joran on video playing Black Jack in the Excelsior and it's part of this case The Excelsior Mob Casino most likely even had a credit line for Joran so he could gamble illegally. It's amazing how no one is held accountable for any crimes of any kind involving this case.

It appears Hero Brinkman wants to put into place a anti corruption policy in the antilles. He says 90% of the Antillen politicians are corrupt and will have to go. He called them a bunch of whining children that the Dutch Govt should not give in to.   thumleft

very good that there is a english article about this now.

Hero Brinkman is stirring up the corruption and bad government issues nicely.
and the islands are taking the bait, protesting about his statements about corruption - they want to silence him!
no wonder why they don't want him to speak.
during the previous kingdom meetings Jan van der Straten wanted to arrest him on Bonaire!

i know first hand that he is not forgetting Aruba.
Aruba is also part of the restructering especially on rule of law / justice issues.
also he has concerns about PvdS involvement during the first days.

i wrote about this a few days ago.
why the new procureur general to replace Nico Jörg was't presented.
i suspected Rudy Croes was having a hard time to get a crony approved.
the Dutch would have objections because of the way Rudy runs his justice department.

especially after the news about the budget overspending of the Aruban OM.
http://www.amigoe.com/artman/publish/artikel_41973.php
and that damning article from Alex de Cuba about the OM and Hans Mos.
http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/1594/mos7bq1.jpg

well here he his...
another temporal PG.

Quote

http://www.amigoe.com/artman/publish/artikel_42066.php

O. M. G.

Dato Willem Steenhuis is very controversial for several reasons.
some of them mentioned in the Amigoe article.

http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dato_Steenhuis

1. conflicts of interest
in 1998 there were major riots in the city of Groningen.
before that there were allegation that a policeman in a Dutch island sexually abused his daughter.
this led to an inquiry into relations in the OM of that district.
Steenhuis was PG of that district.
afterwards in was revealed that Steenhuis had a job as advisor to the inquiry.
so he was advising the inquiry who inquired himself! conflicts of interest.

this led to a huge scandal in the justice department. (sorgdrager affair).
the head of the college of PG (highest position in the OM) had to resign.
there were rumours that the PG's were planning to stage a coup in the justice department!!!
this situation is called: "the revolt of the PG's".
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affaire_van_Sorgdrager_en_de_procureurs-generaal

Quote
As a member of this board, Docters van Leeuwen came in a conflict in 1998 with justice minister Winnie Sorgdrager (D66). The question was about a conflict of interest of another member of the board, Dato Steenhuis, who was on the pay-roll of the company that looked into the workings of the public prosecution in the region of which Date Steenhuis, as board member, was responsible for. Doctors van Leeuwen supported Steenhuis against Sorgdrager; the ensuing breach of confidence between the two resulted in Doctors van Leeuwen being fired from the Board. Shortly thereafter, in 1999, Doctors van Leeuwen became chairman of the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Docters_van_Leeuwen

2. in Steenhuis caused trouble again due the numerous speeding and dangerous driving offences.
all charges were dropped.

so a very nice choice for a new PG.

there is a lot the read about the "revolt of the PG's".
this was quite a crisis in the justice department.
it has links to earlier a later scandal in the justice departement (like IRT-affair - Hirsch Ballin / Rudy/Hendrik Croes!!)

here is a Dutch dossier about it with the titel: "crisis in the OM"
http://www.nrc.nl/W2/Lab/Om/nieuws.html

there is even made a movie about that:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0397502/
Quote
This tv-movie is about a political drama in the Netherlands between procureur general Arthur Docters van Leeuwen en minister Winnie Sorgdrager. They stride between power and trust.

now i hope the chioce of Steenhuis for PG in Aruba will get reported in the news.
how on earth can the put such a controversial man in such a position.
and then for Aruba with an OM which is known to be controversial already.

this is also related to the "revolt of the PG's".
Dato Steenhuis was of course one of them and the cause of the revolt. or not the main cause??

SURINAM

ARMS FOR DRUGS & TROUBLE IN THE HAGUE

On 26 March, in Brasilia, Brazil, an unidentified man, who
claimed to have worked for a Surinamese cocaine cartel
allegedly headed by Advisor of State and former dictator, Desi
Bouterse
, turned himself in to the Dutch drug liaison officer
in Brazil, Mr. A. Modderkolk.  Before submitting to questioning
by the Dutch police, the man gave an extensive interview to the
"De Telegraaf" newspaper, explaining that he felt the public
prosecutor's office would be more careful if journalists had
taken note of his case.  In the past, confidential information
from informants concerning the Surinamese cartel had repeatedly
been leaked to the press, and many believe Mr. Bouterse has a
network of agents who give him access to Dutch law enforcement
intelligence.

The turncoat claims he became police witness because his former
masters owe him a large sum of money.  He says he has worked
with members of the "Suri-cartel", including Mr. Bouterse's
son, Dino, for about four years in an extensive operation to
exchange stolen military weapons for cocaine with the Colombian
FARC guerrilla movement.  Over this period, hundreds of rifles
and automatic weapons stolen from Suriname army barracks were
flown to Colombia, and thousands of kilos of cocaine (at $2,700
per kilo) were delivered to air strips in the Surinamese jungle
in return.
The weapons were allegedly obtained from the army
with the assistance of Melvin Linscheer, a former military
commander who presently owns Mozart Security Services (MSS), a
shady local security company.  Insiders consider Mr. Linscheer
to be the main security advisor of Surinamese President, Jules
Wijdenbosch
, and also the intelligence specialist behind the
Suri-cartel.

The informant claims a Brazilian, identified only as
"Leonardo", approached him in 1994 to "do some jobs".  Leonardo
turned out to be a weapons procurer for the FARC.  Dino
Bouterse, who is stationed as a diplomat at the Surinamese
embassy in Brasilia, is said to have been present In Surinam on
several occasions when cocaine was flown in from Colombia via
Brazil.  According to the informant, the operations ended only
a few months ago.

COMMENT  --  The information provided by the unknown informant
is hard to verify, but it does corroberate what is already
known about the Surinamese cocaine network and the role of Mr.
Linscheer and the Bouterse family.  A decision concerning
progress in the case against Mr. Bouterse, and several other
Surinamese citizens indicted by the Dutch public prosecutor, is
expected soon.

Two months ago, the leading figure in the public prosecutor's
office, Attorney General and former head of BVD internal
security, Arthur Docters van Leeuwen, was unexpectedly fired by
Justice minister, Winnie Sorgdrager, over the handling of a
disciplinary case against his colleague, Attorney General
Steenhuis
.  Rumors are now circulating in The Hague that Mr.
Docters, who had virtually turned the case against Mr. Bouterse
into a personal crusade, was derailed because prosecuting Mr.
Bouterse could bring shady dealings into the open which
involve, among others, the present Foreign Affairs Minister,
Hans van Mierlo.  Mr. van Mierlo, a respected senior political
figure, like Ms. Sorgdrager and Mr. Docters, is a member of the
D66 Progressive Liberal Party.  In the early 1980s, he was
involved in "handling" the Surinamese problem, when dictator
Bouterse killed over a dozen journalists, union officials and
political opponents.  Some insiders have always maintained that
the Dutch government's handling of the embarrassing Surinamese
problem has been either very naive or very cynical ... or both.

---------------------------------------------

http://www.blythe.org/Intelligence/readme/79sum

now we are getting in real dark territory.
goes right to the heart of all kinds of drugs and criminal related cover ups.
reminder: IRT and Cargo-affairs were about the Dutch and Arubans law enforcement letting drugs throug in botched under cover sting operations. Ballin and Rudy Croes justice minister at the time. Ballin had to resign. Rudy Croes was NOT questioned 'because he might become justice minister again in the future'.

and now Dato Steenhuis is Rudy Croes' choice for PG?

very strong smell of al kinds of cover ups and corruption.

The US is concerned about credible reports that some members of the Aruban government met regularly with individuals associated with drug trafficking and money laundering syndicates. In spite of, or perhaps because of, the denials by Aruba officials, the US remains convinced that entrenched money laundering organizations direct large cash deposits into land development and other construction projects on the island. (3) The Netherlands is equally worried. "I think we are going to loose it on Aruba," Arthur Docters van Leeuwen, the Dutch Attorney General, said about the counter-narcotics efforts on the island. Aruba is in the hands of some powerful families and Holland can't do anything about it, due to constitutional restraints. (4)

Caesu,
Very informative!  Thank you!  It doesn't look like things will get any better for the "good people" of Aruba.....just more corruption!

it is just too obvious.
i am here connecting dots and the corruption smells like hell.
if only one newspaper or current affairs show with much more resources would do the same thing.
just expose a few things without accusing, just alleging. just show a few connections between the dutch justice department and the aruba government.

the Bouterse connection is also interesting.
i am sure here the trial is followed? not much happening with the trial at the moment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A9si_Bouterse
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/December_murders
Docters van Leewen was tough on Bouterse AND the drugs trade around Aruba, i bet Aruba and parts of the dutch justice dep. didn't like that.
could be reason to fire Docter van Leeuwen as mentioned above in that intelligence piece.

Steenhuis was NOT fired - but he was 'supposedly' the cause of all the trouble.
i bet Bouterse and Rudy Croes are thankfull towards Steenhuis for causing that revolt so Docters van Leeuwen could be fired.

could be that's why Dato Steenhuis is awarded now this PG job!!

i hope i explain myself enough. else feel free and i go into greater length.

noteworthy: Bram Mosko is attorney also for Bouterse!! also for Beth.
i really hope this doesn't complicate things!!
i am little worried that Mosko is just a big derailer... this civil case isn't go anywhere it seems.
but i hope i am wrong.

Caesu, I don't jump into the monkey pond here often, but I do read.  This is interesting stuff since we've known there were "higher powers" covering Joran's lilly white lying @#$ all along.  People are afraid to speak up in Aruba.  So many changed their stories.  Thank you for all you're contributions.

Piar, De Vrieze, Sprok
to testify in Merx case

PHILIPSBURG--Attorney General Dick Piar, Prosecutor Johan de Vrieze and Acting Prosecutor Ludwina Sprok are to be heard as witnesses in the court case against former chief prosecutor of the Windward Islands Cor Merx.

The Judge ordered that these three witnesses be heard prior to the next court hearing in this case on June 13. He further decided to lift restrictions that had been placed on Merx.

Merx is standing trial on charges of having committed forgery and of having used falsified documents. These criminal acts are punishable with a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment, but Merx said during the first court hearing in his case two weeks ago that he had made a deal with the Prosecutor’s Office that he would not be prosecuted if he resigned and left St. Maarten, which he did in April 2005.

The Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Merx made use of his position as a prosecutor to obtain data concerning telephone contact between his ex-girlfriend and her alleged lover. Merx did not deny these allegations, but stated that the final report of the investigation into his case was not correctly made up.

Merx and his lawyer Jairo Bloem filed a request two weeks ago to hear 11 witnesses, including Merx’s ex-girlfriend and Attorney General in The Hague Dato Steenhuis.

Judge Rick Smid ruled Tuesday that it would be unnecessary to call to the witness stand all persons mentioned by the lawyer. He made an exception in the case of Attorney General Dick Piar.

Piar was involved in talks about Merx’s departure and is expected to have knowledge about what transpired before Merx left St. Maarten.

According to Merx’s lawyer, the authorities already knew of Merx’s alleged criminal behaviour prior to his departure for the Netherlands and remarks made by his superiors led Merx to believe he would not be prosecuted.

Piar provided the Court with a fax message in which he stated that no promises had been made to drop charges, but the Judge deemed further explanation necessary, the reason Piar has to be questioned by a Judge of Instruction.

The name of Prosecutor Johan de Vrieze is mentioned in a document that, according to the indictment, should be considered false. Therefore, it is reasonable to also hear De Vrieze as a witness concerning the facts and circumstances under which this document was made, the Judge indicated.

The third witness who will be heard by the Judge of Instruction is Ludwina Sprok. She was Head of the Administration and Secretary at the Prosecutor’s Office at the time, and may also have been involved in the forging of documents, Bloem contended.

Bloem said Tuesday that a civil procedure would be launched against the Judge’s decision not to hear the other eight witnesses.

june 2006

judge Rick Smid, friend of Paul van der Sloot doesn't want a hearing for PG Dato Steenhuis.
and now Date Steenhuis nominated for PG of Aruba.

and the following connects a couple of thinks. might be interesting later on.
http://www.om.nl/over_het_om/opportuun_archief/om_magazine_2001/735/736/
a former PG of Aruba who had to replace another PG who couldn't work with the Aruban justice department right after the Cargo-affair (de Ruiter commission). this was around the same time as the PG-revolt.
he happended to work with Steenhuis in 2000 in a post-IRT-enquiry.

Quote

years before that Hendrik Croes as justice minister also send a PG back to The Netherlands.
Aruba is very picky with their PG.
surprises me even less that Dato Steenhuis now is nominated for PG.

the nerve Rudy has to nominate him.

if the newsmedia doesn't pick this up he gets confirmed by the kingdom cabinet quietly.
it is a temporal job, maybe for year just like Nico Jörg.
Rudy probably had even more ridiculous first choices for PG.
so now he tries Steenhuis for temporal.

wow caesu, great job. keep connecting those dots.

You said you were worried about the civil suit and Mosko... I've been wondering about that also. I thought the Sloots were to be called in a matter of days... what happened to that? Were they called and did they appear? I think I saw something that said they had not even been served and also something that said Joran was served in the looney bin, but he doesn't seem to have been in the nut house. So, how was he served the official papers to appear?

I guess I want to know what is truly happening here?

maybe someone knows...

Merx to know fate today       Print        E-mail
PHILIPSBURG (20-07-06) - Former Chief Prosecutor of the Windward Islands Cor Merx faces a possible jail sentence today, Wednesday. Judge Rick Smid will be handing down his ruling in the case against Merx, who stands accused of involvement in fraud and the misuse of his office, The Daily Herald reports.

Merx faces one year in jail and the judge has also been asked to impose, as a special condition, a five-year ban on his employment as a civil servant in the Netherlands Antilles or its legal successor.

The Merx case contains all the elements of a good Broadway show. It's the stuff that movies are made of.

The main character, a dapper and likeable senior public servant admired by many, makes a critical mistake driven by love, passion and jealousy, and has to contend with the judicial authorities who, in his and his lawyer's view, are the evil geniuses in the plot, filled with allegations about dubious activities and backroom deals.

Merx, who had become renowned for his trademark black or Panama hat (depending on the occasion) and who, in some people's view, had become a populist prosecutor, left office cloaked in controversy and allegations about administrative and other wrongdoings.

He was in charge of the Prosecutor's Office from February 2001 until February 18, 2005, and formally until April 1, 2005. No wrongdoing

When Merx's surprise departure was officially announced in early 2005, there were many rumours about the reason for his sudden departure. However, Attorney General of the Netherlands Antilles Dick Piar stated at the time that there had been no wrongdoing on Merx's part and that 'Merx himself' had opted to leave, ostensibly because of his poor health.

It became clear later that complaints about his functioning that had nothing to do with his health had already surfaced in December 2004 when, in a so-called 'bad weather conversation' he was informed of the fact that Willemstad no longer had confidence in him.

The complaints against him had to do with the illegal transport of 1,500 kilos of cocaine, allowing armed Dutch police officers to operate in St. Martin, the early release of prisoners from detention against payment to government, carrying out illegal telephone taps, and the unauthorised use of a government-owned car.

On his return to the Netherlands, Merx worked as a Solicitor General at the Court in The Hague, a position which Piar noted could not be considered 'a promotion,' but which, nevertheless, caused raised eyebrows in St. Maarten given the earlier pronouncements that he had left because of his poor health. His return

Equally surprising to many was the fact that the former Chief Prosecutor returned to St. Maarten in mid-September 2005 to work with Gibson and Associates, the law firm of then-minister of constitutional affairs Richard Gibson.

But more surprises were in store for the public. Merx was arrested on December 9, 2005, seven days before he was to be sworn in as an attorney, and was charged with forgery in connection with a request while he was Chief Prosecutor for the telephone records of his former girlfriend and her new friend.

He was also accused of having misused his power as Chief Prosecutor by coercing a colleague at the Prosecutor's Office to make the written petitions for the telephone records, and of having threatened his ex-girlfriend and her friend with his firearm.

It must have been particularly galling for the former Chief Prosecutor that he ended up spending several days behind bars at the start of his journey through the judicial process as an accused facing criminal charges.

While he was behind bars contemplating the predicament in which he found himself, Richard Gibson Jr. withdrew as his attorney and was replaced by high-profile criminal attorney Jairo Bloem of Bergman, Bloem and Bergman law firm.

A Judge of Instruction at the Court of First Instance in Curaçao rejected Bloem's first petition for Merx's release filed on December 13, 2005, stating there were 'indications of a reasonable suspicion that Merx could have committed forgery.'

Six days later (in time for Christmas) Merx was released from pre-trial detention, but the Judge of Instruction ordered that he deposit his passport at the Prosecutor's Office and that he stay clear of his former female partner.

Shortly after being released, Merx hosted a press conference and explained that he had been 'consumed by jealousy' when he made the requests for the telephone information of his former girlfriend and her friend.

'Insofar as these actions have tarnished or discredited the reputation of the Prosecutor's Office, I truly lament this very much. I have always been a God-fearing person who has done his utmost to keep this office in a state of good standing and reputation,' he told the press.

He did not respond to allegations swirling around that he had participated in the burning of the former Prosecutor's Office on Front Street. Trial

On the opening day of his trial on March 21, Merx said he had made a deal with the Prosecutor's Office that he would not be prosecuted if he resigned and left St. Maarten, which he did in April 2005. Bloem filed a request to hear 11 witnesses who he said would be able to confirm this deal and clarify other matters. Among these witnesses were Attorney General Dick Piar and members of the Prosecutor's Offices in Curaçao and St. Maarten, as well as Attorney General in The Hague Dato Steenhuis and Merx's former girlfriend.

[/b]
According to Prosecutor Gert Rip, no deals were ever made between Merx and the Prosecutor's Office. He confronted the Court with the contents of an e-mail sent by Steenhuis in which it was stated that Merx had never been promised he would not be prosecuted.

However, according to Bloem, it is obvious that deals like these are not closed on paper, 'because in cases like these, things are not dealt with in that way.'

Judge Rick Smid decided that only three witnesses needed to be heard: Piar, Prosecutor Johan de Vrieze and Acting Prosecutor Ludwina Sprok, who was Head of Administration and Secretary at the Prosecutor's Office at the time. Impeccable stature

In his closing speech, Rip said Merx had violated the trust put in him. 'A chief prosecutor needs to be of impeccable stature, as he is the man who is supposed to protect law and order. Based on personal motives he misused his power for his personal benefit, which has harmed the foundation of our legal system,' Rip said.

He held it against Merx that he was not showing remorse and was trying to play down the impact of his alleged crime. Merx said many requests had been filed by detectives and prosecutors to obtain telephone records without proper authorisation.

Bloem tried to convince the Judge that Merx had closed a deal with the leadership of the Prosecutor's Office prior to his departure for the Netherlands. He further stated that the Prosecutor had made a mistake in indicting Merx for fraud instead of the lesser charge of having abused his power as a civil servant. Based on these arguments, Bloem requested that the Prosecutor's case against Merx be declared inadmissible and that all charges be dropped.

Bloem has also requested that should the judge find his client guilty as charged, he should be spared a jail sentence.

Merx and all St. Maarten eagerly await the judge’s ruling today.(bron The Daily Herald)

Destiny, I re-worked the letter from a different angle. Kind of pieced things here and there from the original but with a slightly different approach. Please feel free to use what you can. Hope it helps.

Dear Friends of Aruba,

As the 3 year mark of the loss of Natalee Holloway draws near, we are coming to you, the kind and just people of Aruba, to help us heal this pain.

We thank those of you who have grieved and prayed for justice with us, knowing our loss will never fade. We, as a nation, still cry out for our lost daughter, sister, grandchild and friend. We need resolve and peace in this loss and come to you to find this. We know that Aruba has suffered because of this tragedy as well. Together, with a common goal of justice and bringing Natalee home, we can end the suffering and pain so many have had to bear. Injustice by a powerful few, no matter where in this world it exists, is a threat to us all.

We don’t profess that America or any other country is perfect. Neither are we blaming the honorable and just citizens of Aruba for the tragedy that befell this young woman. What we do profess and believe in, is a government that would bring justice for wrongdoing. We also believe there is a hero among you. A hero who will step forward to dry the tears of a mother’s pain. A hero who will help bring a child home to her loved ones. It only takes one brave voice, one brave heart to make this happen.

It is up to you to restore Aruba to the great island it once was. It’s up to you, as a citizen of Aruba, to have your voice heard and make the changes in your government to eliminate the corruption which has now tainted your island. Let our voices sing in unison and rise above the petty bickering that has divided Aruba and hurt her citizens. Let us join hearts and hands to bring Natalee home and restore justice and integrity to your people.

Please, look deep into your heart and soul to understand our plea. To understand how deeply a person can be loved. So deeply, that it could shake a nation. So deeply that it will NEVER fade.

We ask for your help, fully aware, that your safety and security is first and foremost. As such, we have established secure phone and fax numbers to allow for any information to be safely submitted. Please be that hero that we so desperately need. If you have any information that you would like to share, regardless of how insignificant it may seem to you, please contact…
