I was looking for car statements.  I find it odd, that after June 14th, everyone describes the car (which everyone knows) including the color "grey".  If I asked what car you came in to my house, you would probably say "the accord" or whatever...not the blue accord....just sounds funny.  I almost wonder if another Honda Civic wasn't spotted that night and they are trying to deny being the occupants.  I bet the "grey" Civic was at the Sloots and the boys came back to the house (including Guido and Andre) and moved the car to outside the gate.  The muffler was covered up by the "loud music" the neighbor heard.

Joran's June 14th statement says Deepak wanted to go to the Wyndam, Monday night.  His diary (book) says Deepak wanted to go to town and Joran said the Wyndam.  This doesn't have anything to do with the car, but it is odd.


Joran's statement June 14th 2005:

Deepak wanted to go and play black jack. I didn't know why but he wanted to go to the Wyndham Casino. According to him he had no luck at the Radisson Casino. At approximately 02.30 am, Deepak and myself were walking to his car. He was there in his Honda Civic. The car was parked in the parking lot of the Radisson Hotel. Guido left to take Andre home.

Interviewer:  What kind of car is it?

Joran van der Sloot:  It's a Honda Civic, a gray one.

When we (Joran and Guido) got to the Radisson it was probaly 11:00 pm and the Poker Room was quite busy. Me and guido could not even get a spot at the same table. I sat down bought in for 100 dollars. Andre called me to ask where I was, I told him I was at the Radisson and he said he was coming. I did great for about an hour probaly going up 500 dollars and then Deepak called me and asked me where I was. I told him I was at the Radisson and he said he was coming and he quickly closed the phone. It must have been 12:30 and I thought it was kind of strange but it didn’t bother me much so I continued playing.

Andre arived and right after that Deepak, they stood at the railing looking at the action. I knew one of the players at the table and was constantly talking to him and laughing at him because he was drunk. Deepak then asked me if I wanted to go play black jack a while in town, I said no but if you want we can play a while at the Whyndham. He said sure so we left in his grey honda civic from the Radisson parking lot to the Whyndham, Andre said that Guido would bring him home.


Jaime statement June 16, 2005:

Joran answered me that the missing girl had not been found yet. Then Joran told me that Deepak, Satish and he drove in the four door grey car, make Honda Civic that was owned by Deepak to "Carlos & Charlies" and that the three of them had then driven around with the missing girl.

I don't know, but I would bet it is not grey....because everyone keeps talking about the grey car.

FWIW:  HGTV is showing a home search in The Netherlands tonight at 8:30 edt/7:30 cdt, and will replay it at 12:30 edt/11:30 cdt.  It doesn't say where in the Netherlands, only that the couple is looking for something worth $300,000.  Thought some might be interested in a little bit of Dutch life given our Dutch monkey friends and the fact that Fox has been talking about nothing but Tony Snow.  (All due respect to Mr. Snow, may he rest in peace, but Fox does tend to get a little obsessive at times IMO.)

An interesting question might be-why is the light outside of the car, appearing through the windshield-green? is the windshield tinted? At first we heard it was...then pics of DK's car appeared not to show tinted windows.

Charles Croes, on Greta said tinted.  Joran said no tint.

The picture is interesting but the timing of the posting of this picture as I recall is also interesting. I recall it was posted around the end of October/early November 2005 by an unknown person on a "myspace" type site of Jorans. I recall at the time it was posted that Dutchlady felt it was possibly meant as a taunting message, a gesture of defiance. I know we have seen the pics of Freddy(looking oh-so-wasted) with Steffy and Bailey Ann in the back seat of a car , but there is no way to know if that pic and this were of the same event. I still have to agree for such a dumb looking photo.....there had to have been more to it than just a random view of the back of DK's head and JvdS left shoulder. ....still wonder if there was a message.......

Theh photo was actually on Bailey Ann's webshot site which was uploaded to webshots in March 2005:

MANSUR: Yes, ma‘am, we have heard it. We know that that early morning, they went into a total clean-up of the car. Witnesses, neighbors that live close to them testified to that. So the clean-up did take place.

Maybe that is the joran site I am remembering as I don't have Zorpia on this computer. The picure with Steffy Freddy Bailey Ann is in front of Valero gas station, as you can see the lights and part of letters out right rear window in car. The pic of Joran and DK in front was near Diamonds international......

A revamped Civic lineup debuted for 1996. The new body featured larger light clusters fore and aft, a grille (chrome-accented on sedans) and a crisp character line that ran the length of the car. Hatchbacks now had the 103.2-inch wheelbase of the coupes and sedans, and overall length was up around 2 to 4 inches, depending on body style.

Sedans were again offered in DX, LX and EX trim levels. A new coupe, the HX, joined the DX and EX coupes. The HX coupe essentially replaced the VX hatchback, offering high mileage figures from a fairly powerful engine. The revised VTEC-E engine (now at 1.6 liters) in the HX put out 23 more horsepower (for a total of 115 ponies) than the previous version but now "only" scored mileage figures of 39 in the city and 45 on the highway. A gearless continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) that promised seamless performance and manual-transmission fuel economy was introduced later in the year as an option for the HX. The hatchback lineup was trimmed down to two models, the CX and DX. A new 1.6-liter 106-horsepower engine that earned Low Emission Vehicle (LEV) certification powered the CX, DX and LX, and a slightly more powerful 127-horsepower VTEC-assisted version was found in the EX models.

Excluded from the redesign, the del Sol was now in its fourth year and got a host of tweaks to keep it current. The base model (S) got the new 1.6-liter 106-horse engine fitted to the new Civic, Si models got the beefier suspension of the VTEC, and all versions got a freshened front fascia.

In 1997, all Civics came with 14-inch wheels, DX models got full wheel covers, the LX sedan received air conditioning and, strangely, EX coupes with manual transmissions no longer had the option of antilock brakes. As this would be the last year for the del Sol, Honda made no changes.

Not much happened in 1998, save for new wheel covers, an exterior handle for hatchbacks and the addition of map lights.

A slightly revised front fascia and taillights, along with redesigned climate controls updated the Civic for 1999. A "Value Package" for the DX sedan debuted that included features that most buyers wanted, such as air conditioning, a CD player, power door locks, automatic transmission and keyless entry, at a substantial savings when compared to the separate option prices.

Midway through the year to the joy of pocket-rocket enthusiasts everywhere, the Civic Si returned, now in the coupe body style and sporting a potent 160 horsepower from its 1.6-liter VTEC engine. A firmer suspension, front strut tower brace, 15-inch alloy wheels wearing 195/55R15 rubber and four-wheel disc brakes completed the hardware upgrades for the Si. A front spoiler, side sills and subtle bodyside graphics set the Si apart from the other Civic coupes, and the standard equipment was generous and similar to that of the EX.

Other than the shuffling of paint choices, the Civic stood pat for the year 2000.
