I had to put this up today, Frijole is one dedicated football bean. Hopefully bean can provide us some insight into the Big Ten this season?

I of course have to support the following, and pray son can find his footing again and that the team does well. For the first time in his young life he has doubted himself, I think he needs a bean pep talk.  Smile

I had to post this also, the link is to a multimedia cartoon titled "NCSU It's Hard Out Here To Be A Coach".......just a riot. I tell you, college coaching is not for the faint of heart in this day and age for sure.

I don't expect him to play much, youngest in his group and practicing 2nd string offense, so it will be next season I suspect but we'll see. Who is your fave team, TN? UGA? Did anyone see the TD kick return UGA's young buck dropped on the one yard line? Just the kind of thing I'd be sooo afraid could happen with the jitters, poor guy.

Congrats to Frijole, your Huskers had nearly 600 on offense? I bet you're proud  Very Happy

Sorry I said the Big Ten before, the Huskers are in Big 12  Embarassed

How's those Gators doing? SB?

Very good Nones!  Yes, the Huskers are Big 12.  Big 10, I like Ohio State to take it.

My father coached at the college level and graduated from Nebraska and so my family has always been die hard - I mean real crazy - fans.  but we are polite and knowledgeable fans at Nebraska I must say.

Yes, we had a good first game.  Always hard to judge that first game as you don't know how good/bad your opponent is. ha.  Our 3rd game is against USC so we will soon know what we are made of.

I am cheering for Cuz's team - Arkansas tonite.  They play USC.  Actually, I'd like her team to cause a couple injuries... you know, just enough to sideline them for 2 more weeks.

 Wink  Wink

None, 3 different tight ends scored today at Nebraska!  The whole "Air Nebraska" thing is new to us. ha  Heighth and speed.  That's what it's all about.

Hope your son had a good game and knows that he has a fan watching from heaven.  I know that my Dad is sending Nebraska's Coach Callahan all kinds of messages from heaven - I am just sure of it.

This should be a fun thread.  There is NOTHING like collegiate sports.  It's about talent but there is still HEART in it.

Bean, I didn't realize the Razorbacks face the Trojans in the season opener??? Talk about pressure, geez, who made that schedule pick???

Injuries sure sound like a good strategy  Laughing

Tall and fast? Well I think it depends upon the team's attitude toward using the tall ones, have to say maybe the midwest and west coast <with the exception of Miami and VT>, are a bit ahead of the curve in using those TE's !!!

Yeah... some call it the West Coast Offense but we are now calling it the Midwest Coast Offense.   Wink

There is nothing like Saturdays in the fall.... first Saturday is always interesting... I watched as many games as I could.. would like to hear from other monkeys and their perspectives....

- Ohio State and  Texas both played well but we won't know til next week what they are really made of.  Will be a great game

-  Looking forward to the Miami / Fla. State game tomorrow.  Heard they are going to end this series... can't blame them.  Opening to a tough team - not a good strategy given the way the BCS works.

-  Kudos to Arkansas for hanging in there with USC.  Ditto Georgia Tech in the Notre Dame game.

-  Oklahoma may have a long season - either that or UAB is pretty good. ha

-  Gotta say it - Colorado - the team we love to hate... coaching debut.. and they get beat by MONTANA STATE?  AT HOME?  I can see their fair weathered fans now selling their season tickets.  No where to go but up I guess.

-  New Kansas State coach lucks out and wins by 1.  Illinois State coach goes for 2 vs 1 to tie with 15 seconds left?  What's up with that?

Hope to hear about some others re their games -

Bean,

We're going to need some other fball experts like you on this thread soon to keep it 'lively', but I'll try my best for now.

The ACC was sad in that Duke got whomped by the D-1AA Spiders who are ranked in the middle of their pack in pre-season. Amato squeaked past ASU but NCSU's offense and QB are still it's major weakness which isn't likely to improve much. UNC was whomped by Rutgers, another weak QB situation.

I'm a big fan of Beamer's at VT though, looking forward to their season for I predict they will make the rest of the ACC cry.

Calvin Johnson for Ga Tech ruled yesterday, that is a kid I have always thought would change the way the east coast conference looks at tall wr's and west coast offense - he's equally as good in baseball too. Remarkable kid.

It sure is odd to see Lou Holtz on ESPN, how old is he now?

Laughing I am sure there are other monkeys equally passionate about college football....

Had to laugh on your comment about UNC's defeat by Rutgers' and the weak QB... ha ha ha  That WEAK QB was our "starting" QB - yep scary - Callahan's first year.  Felt sorry for him.  He tried his best but he wasn't up to it.  So we were all kind of curious yesterday how he would do in his first start at UNC.

I've always like the Hokies of VA Tech too... coach is a fine guy.  Fans fantastic.  Played with them in the Orange Bowl many a time.

Lou Holtz's age!?? WOW ... seems like 132?   Laughing Not the best commentator.  I miss Trev Alberts - our Nebraska boy.  Heard he was po-ed at ESPN for not making him part of the trio... not sure where he IS these days.

Bean-

Follow the link I posted earlier for the Amato funny to the N&O, in their report it appears UNC's QB literally apologized and spoke about how he needs to earn his scholarship? You may want to read that interview, whew.

I have to feel sorry for that kid, someone has put him in way over his head. Amato just played local politics in his recruiting which is why their QB isn't strong, but it worked the first time with Rivers, guess twice isn't the charm?

Oh, as for Beamer, he gets a bad rep by some but I've met and spoken with him before and he is a good man. He runs a real blue collar program too, you earn your way with him, IMO the younger Vick issue was his only black mark.

I'll have to send you some emails I saved from the recruiting days, I have some goodies, not Beamer but others  Wink

Oh one more time....

We were invited to some friends' house for dinner last nite.  They are HUGE UT fans.   A shut out would have been nice ( just ask my friend!) but winning was all good.  Then we had to watch GaTech because we're also Tech fans.  I did get to watch some of the Alabama game.  I kept my eyes peeled on the sidelines but it didn't help me.  I was watching for a tall tight end.......

It's hard being in the South because Nebraska isn't always the game that gets televised here unless you head for one of the sports bars that has satellite.  I've been known to do that!  Best friend's nephew played for NE until he graduated of course.  I got to see a bowl game a couple years ago (somewhere in MS).

I became a fan of UT even before Fulmer.  Don't really know why.  Another school with great tradition and wonderful fans.  Partied with them the last time we one a natl. championship.  It was Tom Osborne's last game and we painted 3 vehicles (tempera paint - it works great)... like art.  On one we had painted "Tom's Last Dance, The Tennessee Waltz" and the UT fans were coming up and asking if they could take their picture with our car!  ha.

Peaches - if you want me to supply you with decent Husker updates, email Klaas and have her send me your email.  I'll keep you going.  lol

Oh I do have to say that I also love AL ... that goes without saying... I remember watching the TIDE in the 70's every Saturday with my dad and brothers... there was one guy that made it on camera every game... heavy set, and always wore a hat and a ROLL TIDE tie that did a little dance (it was almost burlesque!)  anyone else remember that??

But there used to be a guy dressed up funky at the Yankee games and he would go through the crowd banging a pot with a spoon shouting go Yankees...

As you all may know, I'm not a Yankee fan but I was as at a game one time and he let me bang his pot!   Embarassed With his big ole spoon! Laughing
