2-year-old girl missing for more than a month

 July 17, 2008
She's 3 feet tall, loves her teddy bear and hosts tea parties with her stuffed pig and Elmo doll at a toddler's picnic table.

The last time her grandma and grandpa saw her, she was moving out of their Lee Vista-area home with her mom.

The question is, where is Caylee Marie Anthony?

The 2-year-old girl hasn't been seen in more than a month, and her grandparents are worried. So are Orange County investigators.

Caylee's mother, Casey Marie Anthony, 22, told detectives she dropped Caylee off at a baby sitter's house June 9 but that the child was not there when she went to pick her up.

She never notified deputies.

She didn't tell her parents.

She did her own investigation, she told detectives. She went to clubs that the baby sitter, a woman she identified as Zenaida Gonzalez, is known to frequent. She said she was afraid her daughter would get hurt if authorities got involved because she had seen that happen in movies.

Early Wednesday, Caylee's grandmother, Cindy Anthony, insisted her daughter call the Sheriff's Office. Now, detectives are asking for the public's help in finding Caylee -- and Gonzalez, who authorities think may not even exist.

Investigators discovered that the apartment Casey Anthony said belonged to the baby sitter had been vacant for nearly five months.

"It's difficult to sort through what we've been told, given that what we've been given was false," said Sgt. John Allen of the sheriff's child-abuse unit.

Detectives are retracing Anthony's steps and trying to locate people who may have seen her with -- or without -- Caylee in the past month.

Cindy Anthony has been asking her own questions. Where is Caylee? she has asked her daughter. Can I see her?

Caylee is fine, Casey Anthony has replied. We're living together with friends.

"I've been asking my daughter for the last month to talk to Caylee," Cindy Anthony said. "All I want is Caylee."

Casey Anthony was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of child neglect, providing false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation. She was being held late Wednesday without bail at the Orange County Jail.

When questioned by deputies, Anthony did not "show any obvious emotion as to the loss of her child. She did not cry or give any indication that she was legitimately worried about her child's safety," according to an arrest report. "She remained stoic and monotone during a majority of our contacts."

But her mother insists Anthony has been a good mom.

"And I could never dream she'd put her in harm's way," Cindy Anthony said.

Investigators are wading through a stack of information to try to come up with the truth. For instance:

*Allen, the child-abuse detective, said Anthony initially insisted she worked at Universal Studios and provided a phone extension and the name of her supervisor. All proved false, Allen said. In fact, Anthony was fired from the theme park in April 2006, according to the report.

*Anthony told investigators that Caylee's father is dead. They don't know whether that's true.

*Since Caylee's disappearance, two friends said Anthony told them her daughter was at theme parks or the beach with a nanny, according to investigators.

*Acquaintances describe Anthony as "a habitual liar" who stole checks and $700 from one woman, according to Anthony's arrest report. No charges have been filed.

Anyone with information about Caylee can call Crimeline at 1-800-423-8477.

That little girl is absolutely beautiful. Sick , sick folks in the world today.

Why was this child not given up for adoption at birth so she could have a better life. I think this Mom has either killed her or sold her. JMHO

I'm not sure I have the heart to follow this story, because my gut tells me it won't end happily.

This story reminds me of the "Trenton Duckett" fiasco. I do not believe the GM at all.
Why did Casey leave? She may have been asked to leave or she left on her own....either way, the GM must have known the baby could be in danger.

You can't tell me that the GM is truthful.  When NG asked her if Casey EVER had any mental healthe issues and the GM denied it. In fact, she quickly decided this is not about Casey....hmmmmm....sounds like the Duckett grandparents to me.

Casey has no job and yet the GM states she was on vacation for the month....sorry, not believable. This girl Casey obviously had mental health issues for some time. The GM is in denial and IMO knows or has a good idea what has happened to this beautiful child. This whole thing makes me sick.

Wow. Thank you for posting that report....good work! I responded above before I read it. I was just going on what I observed on Nancy Grace when she interview the grandmother today.

Now, it's time to move on to the boyfriend, Ricardo or Larazza, whatever one is the right one. Wonder what they know. This is very strange how she manages to get the names almost correct. Did she see them written somewhere? or what! Yet, no ones knows her. I don't know what to think at the moment. I am going to read this again.

Once again, thanks for the report.

Looking worse by the minute.

http://www.wesh.com/news/16904053/detail.html

Sources have told WESH 2 News that K9s and crime scene investigators are at the scene digging near the family's home in East Orlando. Neighbors led investigators to the back yard and told them that they recently saw Anthony at the home without her parents.

Investigators also removed a shovel covered with a paper bag from a neighbor's home earlier on Thursday afternoon.

  Hi, Sleddogs

Is the Grandparents home? I thought they were digging there in the daylight earlier today when the grandmother was on NG...hmmmm, interesting. From what I could see on the TV, it is quite a beautiful home with a huge pool.

Oh, that's right...I almost forgot about that...what the heck? yeah, the shovel *from the neighbors garage)the spade covered by a paper bag.

They showed them digging IN the backyard beneath a playhouse. There were German Shepard dogs there which they said were cadaver dogs.

Crime scene investigators are back at the grandparents house this am. They said the focus remains there. They are still focusing in yard.

Detective working case stated that they will be leaving residence this afternoon.....nothing found.
Another article in the newspaper there says they found abnormalities in the dirt (?).
Well, now that Casey is lawyered-up, we will not know anything except if someone else steps forward.

I would like to know what Casey took with her when she left her parents' home. Did she take clothes and toys for Kaylee? Would be nice to know. I wonder if the grandparents are going to speak again. Nancy Grace is soft talking....too many memories of Trenton Duckett case, I bet.

Maybe Greta should step in and take the pressure off Nancy.

Stench In Car May Be Clue In Missing Toddler's Disappearance

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The search for Caylee Anthony in her grandparents' backyard turned out to be a dead end Friday, but a strong smell has led investigators to focus on an Orange County parking lot and a car that was found there.

The car was parked in a lot near State Road 50 and Goldenrod Road (see map) for a few days earlier this week. A business owner had it towed and it turned out to be Caylee's grandparents' car, one the toddler's mother drives.

OMG, what if the mother left Caylee in the car by accident and she died.  The mom freaked out, went off the deep end so to speak.

Klaas,
I was thinking the same thing. Mom left child in car , child overheated and died. Mom already has a crazy problem and does not want to admit it even to herself that this happened.

I wonder if she will remember where she left her. I pray that We are both wrong.
