Bob Marley
Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley OM (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981) was a Jamaican musician, singer-songwriter and Rastafarian. He was the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for the ska, rocksteady and reggae bands: The Wailers (1964 – 1974) and Bob Marley & the Wailers (1974 – 1981). Marley died nearly thirty years ago, but remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited for helping spread Jamaican music to the worldwide audience.[1]

Marley's best known hits include "I Shot the Sheriff", "No Woman, No Cry", "Exodus", "Could You Be Loved", "Stir It Up", "Jamming", "Redemption Song", "One Love" and, together with The Wailers, ""Three Little Birds",[2] as well as the posthumous releases "Buffalo Soldier" and "Iron Lion Zion". The compilation album, Legend, released in 1984, three years after his death, is the best-selling reggae album ever (10 times platinum[3]), with sales of more than 12 million copies.[2]

John Lennon-Imagine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEOkxRLzBf0

John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (born John Winston Lennon; 9 October 1940 – 8 December 1980) was an English rock musician, singer, songwriter, artist, and peace activist who gained worldwide fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles. As a member of the group, Lennon was one of the lead vocalists and co-wrote the majority of the band's songs with bassist Paul McCartney.

In his solo career, Lennon wrote and recorded songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon revealed his rebellious nature and wit on television, in films such as A Hard Day's Night, in books such as In His Own Write, and in press conferences and interviews. He was controversial through his work as a peace activist, artist, and author.

Lennon had two sons: Julian Lennon, with his first wife Cynthia Lennon, and Sean Ono Lennon, with his second wife, avant-garde artist Yoko Ono. After a self-imposed retirement from 1976 to 1980, Lennon reemerged with a comeback album, but was murdered one month later in New York City on 8 December 1980. In 2002, respondents to a BBC poll on the 100 Greatest Britons voted Lennon into eighth place. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Lennon number 38 on its list of "The Immortals: The Fifty Greatest Artists of All Time" and ranked The Beatles at number one.

Roger Troutman - Megamix

Roger Troutman, 47

Born: Nov 29, 1951 in Hamilton, OH
Died: Apr 25, 1999 in Dayton, OH

Zapp's Roger and Larry Troutman Found Dead In Apparent Murder-Suicide

Brothers Roger and Larry Troutman, founding members of seminal '80s funk outfit Zapp, were found dead Sunday (April 25) morning near their Dayton, Ohio recording studio in an apparent murder-suicide.

Roger Troutman, 47, was found just outside the studio with several gunshots to his torso, according to the Associated Press. He died while in surgery at the Good Samaritan Hospital and Health Center.

Roger's brother Larry was found dead in a car a few blocks away with a single gunshot wound to the head. Investigators believe the wound was self-inflicted, but won't know for a few days whether a handgun found in the vehicle was the same as that responsible for Roger's death.

Roger and Larry Troutman founded Zapp in 1975, along with their brothers Lester and Terry Troutman. The group became an important part of the funk scene in the early '80s with such hit records as "More Bounce to the Ounce," "Dance Floor," and "Doo Wa Ditty."

Roger, lead singer and guitarist for the group, frequently used a vocoder voice- distortion box for his lead vocals. The group's future-funk vibe provided the transition between the sloppy grooves of Parliament in the late '70s and the early electro foundations of hip-hop in the early '80s. Later in the decade, Roger went solo and earned a crossover hit with the record "I Want To Be Your Man." He later rejoined the family group under the moniker Zapp & Roger.

After depleting a finite reserve of James Brown and George Clinton samples, hip-hop artists also took a liking to Zapp. Most recently, Roger Troutman was used by 2Pac and Dr. Dre for their 1996 award-winning collaboration "California Love." ~Jazzbo

ROLLING STONES - BRIAN JONES - LIKE A ROLLING STONE

Brian Jones
Rolling Stones
Age 27

 (b. Lewis Brian Hopkin-Jones, 28 February 1942, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England
d. 3 July 1969, Cotchford Farm, Sussex)

While the Stones were re- establishing themselves, Brian Jones was falling deeper into drug abuse. A conviction in late 1968 prompted doubts about his availability for US tours and in the succeeding months he contributed  less and less to recordings and became increasingly jealous of Jagger's leading role in the group. Richards' wooing and impregnation of Jones' girlfriend Anita Pallenberg  merely increased the tension. Matters reached a crisis point in June 1969 when Jones officially left  the group. The following month he  was found dead in the swimming  pool of the Sussex house that had once belonged to writer A.A. Milne. The official verdict was ‘death by misadventure’.  ~music central '96

"The many theories of murder mostly revolve around the many people who were at Brian's home that night, and whose police statements all clash and contradict one another. These theories carry a lot of weight and there seems to be too much proof to be just rumours. To find out more about the murder of Brian, look out for the books: 'Golden Stone-The Untold Life And Death Of Brian Jones' by Laura Jackson or 'Paint It Black-The Murder Of Brian Jones' by Geoffrey Giuliano.

Swedish girlfriend claims Stones' Brian Jones murdered
Thursday, July 08, 1999

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - A Swedish woman who found Rolling Stones star Brian Jones drowned in his swimming pool 30 years ago has said she believes the guitarist was murdered.

Anna Wohlin, who was Jones' girlfriend at the time of his death, has broken her years of silence with a new book, "Murder of Brian Jones '' published this week.

Wohlin, now 53, told Swedish newspaper Expressen it had taken her this long to be able to talk about the night of July 3, 1969, when she found 27-year-old Jones' dead in the pool at his luxury farmhouse in Hartfield, England.

``It hurt so much and went so deep. It was as if it had not happened to me,'' Wohlin said in the interview. ``I was in such shock that I was sick. Then I repressed it -- I got married.'

A verdict of misadventure was recorded at the inquest into Jones' death. He was believed to have been swimming while under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

But Wohlin, who now runs a women's clothing shop in Stockholm, insists that by the time of his death Jones had stopped using hard drugs and had cut back on his drinking.

She claims builder Frank Thorogood, now also dead, killed Jones in a dispute over money. Thorogood was doing some work for Jones at his farm.

This theory gained credibility in 1994 when a recording of an alleged death bed confession by Thorogood came to light. Police briefly reopened the investigation but made no progress.

Wohlin said she decided after her recent divorce to tell her version of Jones' death.

``I felt that I wanted to tell what really happened, mainly for the sake of his son and his closest friends, who also believed that he died when he was on drugs. That wasn't true. I knew what was going on,''  she said.

Ty Longley, Age 31
Great White

(Born: September 4, 1971, Sharon, PA; Died: February 20, 2003,Warwick, RI)  Great White Guitarist
Ty Longley, the lead guitarist for heavy metal band Great White, is among the latest victims confirmed dead in last week's devastating Rhode Island nightclub fire. The guitarist's name was one of 13 added to the list of fatalities on Monday, bringing the number of those killed to 97. Longley, who joined Great White in 2000, took to the stage of the Station with his band mates accompanied by a burst of pyrotechnics, which touched off a blaze that engulfed the venue in less than three minutes. Nearly 100 fans were injured and taken to a local hospital in the town of West Warwick. As of Monday, about 80 were still hospitalized, half of those listed in critical condition. The 31-year-old Longley was reported missing soon after the event, but his death was not confirmed until today. A native of Sharon, Pennsylvania, the musician was not an original member of Great White during its heyday in the late '80s and early '90s, but joined the band on tours three years ago. Longley was planning to move in with his pregnant girlfriend, Heidi, after the end of this tour. His family was said to be in shock over the tragedy. They and other families of victims traveled to the site this weekend to grieve over the loss of their loved ones. A message posted Monday on Great White lead singer Jack Russell's official Website (www.planetjr.com) expressed the band's condolences to all the victims in the tragedy and mourned the loss of Longley, who members called their "best friend."  "The thoughts and prayers of everybody associated with the band goes out to every person affected by this tragedy," the message reads. "There are no words to express our sadness at the loss everybody has suffered."  Speaking on Good Morning America, Great White attorney Ed McPherson added, "The band's a mess."  The group has returned to its home base in Los Angeles and is said to be cooperating with authorities--the same apparently can't be said for Station owners Jeffrey Derderian and his brother Michael Derderian. According to State Attorney General Patrick Lynch, the siblings have not exactly been forthcoming in answering investigators' inquiries into what happened Thursday. In fact, Jeffrey Derderian has not spoken with authorities since the night of the fire, while his brother hasn't talked at all.  Facing the possibility of criminal charges and million-dollar civil suits, the Derederians and Great White have been playing the blame game, focusing on whether the band had permission to set off a pyrotechnics display in the venue.  Russell, has said repeatedly that the Station's management gave the rockers the okay to do so, a claim refuted by the Derderians in a statement released on Friday.  Club owners who've previously hosted Great White on this tour have come forward with conflicting accounts over whether the band sought approval to use pyrotechnics.  Dominic Santana, owner of New Jersey's famed Stone Pony, said the band used the sparklers during a show there on Valentine's Day without asking, while club owners in other cities have said just the opposite.  On Sunday, about 400 family members of the victims gathered around the blackened remains of the Station to mourn privately. They hugged, prayed and left flowers, photographs and stuffed animals. Officials put up black fabric around them to keep out the news media and other gawkers.  "These families are going through such a tragedy, such an emotional odyssey right now, and their hearts are broken, and they still don't know in many cases whether their loved one has been positively ID'd," Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri said Monday.  Of the 97 people who lost their lives, only 55 have been positively identified.
