Ex military, white supremest, 9/11 tattoo, probably thought they were Muslims.

I think this is what happened too.

After reading more about Page, I'm not so sure he targeted the Sikh's assuming they were Muslim.  I believe the attack by Page was against the Sikh's because of the racist ideology of a white supremacist.  I don't think it was a mistake.  I believe it has to do with intolerance of others that are different, not just Muslims.  JMHO

Sikh temple gunman Wade Page shot himself in head, police say
August 8, 2012

MILWAUKEE -- Wade Michael Page, the gunman believed to be responsible for killing a half-dozen people at a Sikh temple outside Milwaukee on Sunday, died after shooting himself in the head, officials said at a Wednesday briefing.

“We still have not identified anyone else in this shooting except him. We also have not identified a motive,” said Teresa Carlson, FBI special agent in charge of the Milwaukee division, during the briefing at FBI offices.

She said a police officer responding to reports of a shooting at the temple in Oak Creek, Wis.,  shot Page in the stomach, “neutralizing the subject.” Page then shot himself in the head and died, she said.

Sikh temple gunman's ex held on weapons charge

(CBS/AP) MILWAUKEE - The ex-girlfriend of a man who police say fatally shot six worshippers at a Sikh temple Sunday faces legal trouble herself.

South Milwaukee Police Chief Ann Wellins released a statement Tuesday saying 31-year-old nursing student Misty Cook had been arrested on a tentative charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Cook was the ex-girlfriend of Wade Michael Page, who was involved with white supremacy groups.

At a Wednesday morning news conference, the FBI's special agent in charge in Milwaukee, Teresa Carlson, told reporters that Cook was arrested Sunday after police officers observed a weapon in her home during an interview for the Page investigation.

Milwaukee County sheriff's spokeswoman Fran McLaughlin said the 31-year-old Cook also went by Brenda Cook. Online court records show Brenda Cook pleaded no contest in 2005 to a felony charge of fleeing an officer. Carlson said Misty Cook wasn't connected to the Sikh temple shooting and was cooperative.

Carlson also told reporters that video footage from the shooting showed that Page apparently shot himself. Previously, Oak Creek Police Officer Sam Lenda was credited with downing Page. Lenda was the second officer who responded to the scene. Carlson said Lenda shot Page in the stomach.

Wis. Sikhs leave bullet hole to mark mass shooting
August 10, 2012

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) — They removed the bloodstained carpeting, repaired shattered windows and painted over gunfire-scarred walls. But Sikh Temple of Wisconsin members left a single bullet hole to mark the memory of a white supremacist’s deadly rampage.

As thousands Friday mourned the six victims gunned down before a prayer service, the temple’s members worked late the previous night to remove all but the one trace of the shooting. The waist-high bullet hole in a door jamb near the main prayer room was left as a memorial to the six slain worshippers.

‘‘We will put a plaque here,’’ Harpreet Singh, the nephew of one of the victims, said Friday. ‘‘We will make sure they are never forgotten.’’

Members showed The Associated Press the dime-size hole during an exclusive tour of the temple. While most other physical reminders of the horror have been scrubbed or painted away, temple members said they could still feel the spirits of those who died.

Tears flow as thousands crowd Wisconsin high-school gym to mourn Sikhs slain by neo-Nazi
More than 3,000 gathered to mourn the 6 dead victims of the neo-Nazi, racist killer Wade Michael Page.

August 10, 2012

There were six open caskets and more than 3,000 crying mourners Friday as a multitude piled into a Wisconsin gym and wept for the victims of a senseless slaughter.

The victims of a neo-Nazi’s racist madness were gentle Sikhs and the hymns were sung in Punjabi.

But the grief spilling over the Oak Creek High School gym touched everyone in the room.

“Today we mourn with you. We pray with you. We support you,” Gov. Scott Walker told the throngs.

OAK CREEK (AP) -

There's a new memorial in Oak Creek honoring the victims of the Sikh (SEEK) temple shooting.

High School social worker David Timmer organized the planting Saturday of prairie flowers in the garden in front of the school.

Timmer says the native prairie flowers represent strength in diversity.

Candlelight vigil honors Wisconsin Sikh victims
August 5, 2013

OAK CREEK, Wis. (AP) - Hundreds of people gathered Monday night to mark the one-year anniversary of a shooting rampage at a Wisconsin Sikh temple with a candlelight vigil in the very parking lot where two of the six victims died.

Amardeep Kaleka, the son of one of the victims, said the turnout was greater than organizers anticipated.

"People could have stayed home and watched TV but they wanted to be here together in the name of peace," Kaleka said.

The crowd listened to speakers near a memorial that included pictures of the victims.

The vigil brings to a close a weekend of events honoring the victims, who died 12 months ago when a white supremacist who didn't know them opened fire. The gunman, who wounded five other worshippers and an Oak Creek police officer, killed himself in the same parking lot.

Pardeep Kaleka, whose father died in the shooting, formed an unlikely alliance with a former white supremacist. Together he and Arno Michaelis visit local middle schools and high schools, with Michaelis describing his former life of hate and Kaleka explaining how that sort of hatred led to pointless bloodshed.

Other relatives have balanced their grief with the Sikh teaching of "Chardi Kala" (CHAR'-dee kuh-LAH'). The principle urges followers to remain optimistic and happy, even in the face of adversity, to show an acceptance of God's will.

Monday's vigil was preceded by a 30 minute event calling for a reduction in gun violence nationwide. Participants read the names of victims of gun violence from across the country, including the six Sikh victims.

Army veteran Wade Michael Page, who had ties to white supremacy groups, killed the six people at the temple and wounded five others before killing himself. FBI agents were unable to determine a motive.

Attorney General Eric Holder announced last week that the Justice Department will begin keeping numbers on hate crimes committed against Sikhs and six other groups. He also announced a $512,000 grant for mental health and trauma services to those affected by the Oak Creek shooting, including survivors and family members.
