SANAA: A car bomb set off a series of explosions outside the heavily fortified United States embassy in Yemen on Wednesday, killing at least 16 people, a Yemeni security source said.

“This morning a car exploded at the main gate of the embassy in Sanaa. There was an initial explosion and several secondary explosions,” a US embassy spokesman said. “We do have reports of casualties. Right now, I cannot confirm the number, nor the nationality nor the severity of the casualties,” he said. A group calling itself Islamic Jihad in Yemen claimed responsibility for the bombing, and threatened attacks on other embassies including those of Britain, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

It had threatened in a statement on Tuesday to launch a series of attacks unless the Yemeni government met its demands for the release of several members from jail. Witnesses said a fierce firefight erupted after gunmen shot at Yemeni police guarding the heavily fortified embassy compound, before a suicide bomber blew up a car at the entrance, setting off a fireball. The dead were six Yemeni soldiers, four civilians including an Indian and six attackers — one wearing an explosives belt, the Interior Ministry said, while a US official in Washington said there were no American casualties.. Muslims: We must kill Mickey Mouse

A prominent Saudi Islamic cleric has issued a fatwa, or religious edict, against Mickey Mouse, whom he characterized as an agent of Satan sent to corrupt young minds.

Sheikh Mohammed Al-Munajid told Saudi Arabia's Al-Majd Television that his beef with Mickey is that he is a mouse, a creature that Islam sees as "repulsive and corrupting."

Al-Munajid explained that Islamic law refers to the mouse as "little corrupter" and a creature that is "steered by Satan," and grants permission to all Muslims to "kill [mice] in all cases."
