Okay...my last post for while--I have to get out of this house.

Why would someone want to use chloroform to render a child unconscious for an hour or so? 

I know, it's a nasty thought.  When it first occurs to someone their reaction is shock (as Leonard Padilla told us we would be).  But, there is big, big money there, and that is a motivator for Casey Anthony.

Although I don't have personal experience with chloroform specifically being used in any of my child sex abuse/child porn cases, I did have many cases in which the child was sedated and/or incapacitated with other agents prior to acts of abuse of varying kinds.  This was typically done with extrafamilial victims though.  Direct family abuse was typically accomplished through various processes of grooming or indoctrination.

Chloroform is certainly an appropriate agent to achieve short-term and easily reversible anesthesia.
