this is on a forum Get Married in Aruba

Good evening, Monkeys.

Johan, it is good to see that all the work MsMarple and I did (mostly MsMarple!) in that thread was actually of use to someone.  If you go the the opening posts there, you will find that we started it because travel agents were being told there was NO CRIME in Aruba at all and that there had only been one murder in the last twenty years!  I kid you not, that is what was being told.

And that is what was being told to groups traveling there like the one Natalee was in and yet she is now roundly condemned by those same people who promoted that no crime theory because she believed them at least to some extent?

The murder rate per capita is comparable to that in the U.S. and many other violent crimes are higher so there was massive false information being disseminated to potential tourists.  I don't have much time to devote these days but hope that all will help keep the M&C thread up to date.

Power Distribution in danger by director resigns

October 15, 2008, 14:47 (GMT -04:00)

Elmar director Freddy Rafin (middle) during the press conference last Monday about the big power failure in Orange City and environs. That same noon, he received the letter from the Board in which he was suspended.
ORANGE CITY - The decision to Elmar director Freddy Rafin to stay with the purpose to dismiss him, comes at a particularly unfortunate moment. It is in addition to the major power failure on Monday, the al-week strike by Elmar personnel and the bad weather and will directly affect the distribution of electricity.
This means the staff in a response to the letter of the Supervisory Board (SB) which Rafin director on Monday received. At that time there was a large part of Orange City and the surrounding flat because of a fire in a stadium in the Bay Horse. The letter called Rafin arriving for a meeting Tuesday with the Supervisory Board as an agenda item with the resignation of the director. Although the message for Rafin a "cold shower" was due to the 'bad' timing, it was no surprise. The director said the end of September all that the relationship with the new commissioners and president Efraín the Abstract is not too good. From a confidence breakage wished he was still not speaking even though the same week Shortly sharp criticism of the functioning of Rafin expressed. "On a professional level, I have no problems, we send letters back and forth. If they find that there are problems and I to leave, they must decide, "said Elmar director then.

Criticism
The criticism of Rafin was a few years ago greatly fueled by Prime Minister Nel Oduber who uitliet about the exorbitant salaries that the Elmar-WEB-director and also director Jossy Lacle would earn. This would be more in line with wages in the public sector earned, said Oduber, as land holdings. The criticism swelled again this year when the prime minister said, supported by the Supervisory Board, the statutes of Elmar want to change. This in line with the policies of the government to pay for agricultural businesses to secure, said Oduber. The pay slips, both Rafin Lacle and came again on the streets, and Prime Minister Oduber also informed them during a recent press conference.

Now his resignation just a matter of a week seems, the staff of Elmar let them know that its director supports. Especially since the decision comes at a time so that the power supply 'critical and delicate "is. To the strike, which has entered its third week, to catch the staff working around the clock to ensure a stable power supply. It is about 40 persons directly driven by the Executive Board. "For this to go by, there is peace on the work needed to meet the major problems with it. This decision is therefore not in the interest of Elmar, industry and population, "said a message from the staff of Elmar. "We realize now that both the Supervisory Board, Utilities and the Government are not aware of the seriousness of the situation by Elmar."

Strike
Even when the union EUA is confusion after the notice of the suspension of Elmar director. There is a call scheduled for today on the collective bargaining proposal that was presented Sunday on the table, but union leader Coby Geerman wonders whether it is better not to the Supervisory Board to negotiate further. About the contents of the collective bargaining proposal, the unions and management have said Geerman. Biggest stumbling block, however, is still expensive; UEA demands that the collective agreement for two years, the supervisor does not go beyond one year.

Power failure for not remedied

October 14, 2008, 17:09 (GMT -04:00)

The transformer of Elmar in the Horse Bay Street, the next two months volleidg shelf. The repair work by specialists from the Netherlands should be carried out.

ORANGE CITY - The power outage yesterday that the vast majority of flat explained Oranjestad, is still not resolved by Elmar. An explosion which led to the fire in a transformer of the electricity in the Horse Bay Street has destroyed the whole plant, making sure that the next two months out of action remains. The power supply for Orange City and the surrounding area is provisionally diverted through other substations, but it is important that each consumer's electricity consumption reduces, to prevent a full power outage. The damage runs according to Elmar director Freddy Raffin in the millions and must be remedied specialists from the Netherlands. The next two weeks so there is talk of an unstable flow situation on our island.

Yesterday morning there was an explosion in a switch instead of the substation to the Horse of Elmar Bay Street, in front of the building of Boogaard Insurance. This explosion was a fire caused by the installation of 12,000 volts in the substation completely destroyed. As a consequence, fell from power in the region from Pos Abao, at the height of the Eagle Bowling Palace, to the low-rise hotels, like the immediate vicinity of Oranjestad to Sabana Blanco and Tanki Leendert. The vast majority of the shops on the L.G. Smith Boulevard to the Caya Betico Croes had to shut down.

The initial repair work will certainly take two weeks. There is nobody on the island who can perform this work, so there must be specialists from the Netherlands to be flown here, said Raffin. It is not yet known when these specialists arrive on the island, but according to Elmar spokesperson Zelda Curiel, the technical director has made contact with them.

The situation remains serious because Elmar electricity for through other substations should redirect. The substation-out remains, according Raffin, at least two months out of action. For the area that was yesterday mannered, there are usually eight main transformers that provide for a stable electricity supply. "At the moment, however, because of the damage caused by the explosion of a short circuit yesterday and last Saturday in a high-voltage underground cable instead has found, there are only four main transformers in operation," said Raffin. "As a result, there is now talk of a flawed distribution system, where a severe shortage of both transformer and distribution capacity."

Consume less energy
If everyone continues to consume electricity as usual this can be a complete power failure cause, said Raffin. Therefore, he made an urgent appeal to consumers, while he was fully supported by Rob Smith and Greg Peterson of Ahata of ATIA undertakings, so as to minimize power consumption, so that anyone on the island can have electricity.
Smith said that the hotels since yesterday are the consumption of electricity as much as possible to reduce, by the elevators in the least occupied parts of the hotels off by as little as possible and outdoor use. "There is no other way to solve this problem, so we must all make our contribution," said Smith.
Peterson added Even her: "ATIA therefore calls on all entrepreneurs in the field mannered To minimize possible to consume electricity. This may, for example, the air conditioner and a half hours before departure off, and X-rays which are not necessary for the operation off. Thus less energy consumption so we are not all the victims of a power outage. Try also to see the positive side, the next electricity bill is lower. "
Raffiné said that the restoration of electricity to all consumers far only possible if everyone is his own consumption is minimized: "Less energy consumption at home in this case electricity for the neighbors. If this does not happen, or not enough, Elmar then proceed to deliberately interrupt the electricity supply in certain areas. "According Raffin, the energy company in the coming days energy closely. "We view the situation from day to day and hand them to determine what steps we should take."

Majeure
The exact cause of the explosion is still unknown, but according to the spokesman Elmar, Zelda Curiel, it is overdue. The Elmar Director believes that it is not lack of maintenance, because the substations two weeks ago preventative maintenance. "With infrared equipment was to see whether there are temperature differences between the switches and this was not the case. The incident is not due to lack of maintenance "said Raffin. In each case the electricity not count on the cooperation of the workers covered by collective agreements, since they still carry action. "The inconvenience caused as a result of the fire, but also due to the weather, at this moment must be remedied by the staff," said Curiel. This is actually the middle-and upper part technicians who do not fall under the collective agreement. "The other workers are still action in connection with the collective agreement and it is very unfortunate that under these circumstances, we can not count on them. Well, we have received permission from the court to hired forces to use, so all emergency operations are affected by these temporary employees and staff members carried out, "said Curiel.

To keep this Boycott "alive" is to post on Travel, Wedding and Dive forums .
And give the people there good information about these islands  and tell them that there is no justice at all and corruption  and ... violence !!!!
It is a fight against the tourist industry ,because they make aggressive promotion for these islands .

fyi -- not sure if you know, but, per Joran's statements -- "Beto" is jamie carasaquilla's (sp?) 'nicname'.

wreck, now there are three new witnesses. I wonder how they will spin their way out of that one.

one witness is not a witness, and neither is 3,4,8,10,26,46,59...

Mos is gone or going to be gone in early January, so someone has a ruff start to the job. New prosecutor - same results.

We've said it before Brother, they could have a videotape of Joran committing the murder and the Dutch prosecutors and judges would find a way to dismiss it. The Dutch have made a complete mockery of justice on Aruba. They are all connected, all part of a good ole boy network, and they are all as crooked as a dog's hind leg.

As Nico Jorge said, the Dutch government officials in Aruba are incapable of investigating and prosecuting anything other than ordinary street crime. Let's watch Marlies' case closely. The resemblance to Natalee's is staggeringly similar and she is one of their own. Joran and Pustus Sloot have set the benchmark for justice under the Dutch system in the Antilles, and it is woefully corrupt.
