Fourth arrest in case Marlies



BONAIRE - The police in Bonaire has fourth suspect arrested in the case of the missing Dutch Marlies van der Kouw (24).

BONAIRE - De politie op Bonaire heeft een vierde verdachte gearresteerd in de zaak van de verdwenen Nederlandse Marlies van der Kouwe (24).
 

Het gaat om de 30-jarige J.R.R.. Een andere verdachte, Vincent P., is dinsdag op vrije voeten gesteld. Diens vriend Siegmar en zijn broer Ryan zitten nog wel in de cel.

Regenbuien en windhozen op het tropische eilandje Bonaire bemoeilijken de speurtocht naar de verdwenen Marlies van der Kouwe (24) ernstig.

Daken waaiden maandag van de eilandhuisjes af en verschillende woningen liepen onder water. waarna de bewoners moesten worden geëvacueerd. Ook het hotel waar politiewoordvoerder Reggie Huggings onderdak had liep onder water.

,,Het weer is op dit moment een enorme spelbreker in de zoektocht naar Marlies, een deel van de politiesterkte moet nu worden ingezet voor de hulp aan de bevolking.'' De woordvoerder benadrukt dat er nog steeds geen sprake is van een doorbraak in het onderzoek naar de verdwijning van Marlies. ,,De drie verdachten die we tot nu toe hebben gearresteerd hebben nog geen bekenende verklaringen afgelegd.''

Dat was met David van Delft de nieuwe Officier van Justitie op Bonaire.

Er werd hem gevraagd of hij nog contact met Aruba heeft om bijv.
tips te krijgen aangaande  het onderzoek en  hoe dat het beste uit te voeren
en gebruik te maken van de daar opgedane know how  .
Zijn antwoord was " nee hoor we hebben helemaal geen contact  met Aruba gehad "

right Bastibro - she is not alive any longer. The last two suspects are detained on suspicion of body disposal. Even the incompetent police know she is not alive - so no need to hurry this investigation. They do not act as if they are looking for a person being held against their will.

Sadly yes, Marlies case is following the same path as Natalee's. First there is a flurry of arrests. Then nothing happens as time drags on. Almost a month now.

The perpertrators have been emboldened by Joran van der Sloot. They know that all they have to do is lie or not talk at all and nothing will happen to them. They'll eventually have to be released by the dirty Antilles judges who have probably already accepted their first round of bribes.

Marlies' parents have been hoodwinked into not talking to the press. They are trying to protect their tourism. It must be working because I haven't seen any outrage by the general Dutch populace.

A translation from an article in "De Telegraaf", a Dutch newspaper, known to be really good in financial things, but the normal reports have a high Gossip-%.

It is partial new and interesting information.

Police of Bonaire is searching since several days for a black car that perhaps plays an important role in the disappearance of Marlies van der Kouwe.

They also asked the help of the local population for the disappeared bag of Marlies.
The pharmacy-assistant cycled with a handbag home, but this bag hasn't been found after the kidnap. In the bag were supposedly her wallet and en GSM-phone.
According to friends of Marlies the phone has never been switched on after her leaving that evening. Also the information of the car is taken seriously. The detectives have always wondered how Marlies could have been transported on a scooter not voluntary.
Police got information that a second person was involved in the kidnap. Further more a family-member of Ryan Pieters would know the total details of what had happened.
The kidnapping of the Dutch woman, now one-and-a-half week ago starts to ask the toll with the flown-in parents. Witnesses saw her mother crying intensively when leaving the hotel. Painfully enough, she was accommodated in the same hotel as where the suspect worked.
Also in the investigation team of over 60 detectives there is tension. Between the detectives of the Netherlands, Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire the differences of how to do the job are growing. Especially with the Dutch police-people there is irritation about the approach and the lack of professionalism, as you can hear from their angry discussions in the local restaurants and cafe's.
They seemed to be unaware about how small the Bonaire community really is.
On Bonaire the investigation is also obstructed by the many family-ties. To prevent that sensitive information from the police to family and possible suspects leaks, not all detectives are completely informed about the progress of the investigation.
That necessary approach also brings tension between the Antillean and Dutch investigators. The Dutch contribution and direction are very sensitive on the island
