This is just heartbreaking.  God bless and keep Marlies.  The madness on these Dutch Islands has to stop.  It is obvious that the ABC islands are not capable of controlling the madness that occurs and the violence against these innocent women.  Do not set foot on Aruba, Curacao, or Bonaire because your life depends on it and there is no one to help you.

Thank God for the storm and the tracker dogs for the sake of Marlies being recovered. What a tragedy. Why didn't they bring the tracker dogs in from the beginning? Marlies might have been found alive, if she was not murdered the first night.

Would be great if there was an awareness now that Dutch Law has to be changed for the sake of girls who go missing and are abducted, such as Natalee and Marlies.....but I don't suppose it will ever happen.

Dayhiker, I think you are right when you said that the abductors were empowered by Joran. Rather than wasting time with suspects sitting in jail who know from Joran's experience just to say nothing, the search should have been ramped up alot faster than it was, with all resources available pulled in.

How heartbreaking. What is going to be done about it? If this was in the US, there would be a demand from the public that laws needed to be made a lot stiffer immediately.

it is on the dutch television now
they have to do some DNA  tests to check if it is her (Marlies )
yes there are a lot of questions
why the dogs so late ? and only 2 or 3 dogs ?
why did they start the search after 1 1/2 day ?

Posted 30 minutes ago on the internet, from Radio Netherlands-

Bonaire police find body of missing Marlies
Published: Saturday 18 October 2008 19:22 UTC

Officials on the Netherlands Antilles island of Bonaire have confirmed that the body of missing Dutch woman Marlies van der Kouwe has been found. Police discovered her remains on a stretch of land near a rubbish dump. Specialists from the Netherlands Forensic Institute were conducting investigations at the scene all day.

The 24-year-old pharmacist's assistant vanished on Bonaire last month after leaving a beach party to travel home on her scooter.

Three men are currently in police custody in connection with the case. The main suspect, aged 27, has now been transferred to the Bon Futuro prison on Curacao. Public Prosecutor David van Delft says he expects more arrests to follow in the near future.

I also learned that, knowing Pieters served 8 years in Curacao prison for brutal rape, he did NEVER confess!
Unbelieveble . . they should have put him in the chair IMO

I thought of AES today.

News here told of finding a lost hiker, in the mountains.  Dogs followed his scent, from a candy bar wrapper, that he had touched.  Imagine if those dogs had been available immediately, for Natalee and Marlies.  Amazing!!

Hi Buckeye,

Yes this is certainly sad news; a girl or young woman killed... Parents losing their child. That's the most painfull thing parents can experience.
But what I think is the most shocking of all in these kinds of murdercases is that girls lifes are taken by men just for ten or fifteen minutes of sex...
(Not that I want to promote it but someone whos's desperate for sex can buy that anywhere on the streets for less than a hundred dollars.........!!!???)

It's just sick! And so very sad!

Thanks AES, but our great Dutch friends here did all the work by keeping us informed throughout. Thanks to you all for your diligent efforts. I only wish the outcome had been better.

I hope the good people of Holland will be just as outraged about this as we have been for the past 3 1/2 years over Natalee's murder in Aruba. Peter DeVries has opened many eyes in Holland, thank God, and this should provide the added awareness that the Netherland Antilles need a serious overhaul.

Nothing has changed on the islands, they are just as dangerous and corrupt as they were when Natalee went missing. I hope there are plans in the works to correct these problems. God bless.

Yep, Joran has become the role model for murders and rapists on the ABC islands. He has embolded all of them and given them a road map on how to beat the Dutch system on the islands. If any of these suspects/criminals have any clout politically and socially they will walk.

Just as in Natalee's case, the criminals have had more than enough lead time to cover their tracks and get their stories straight. I don't think arresting anybody at this late in the game will intimidate any of them.

My condolences to Marlies van der Kouwe's parents.  I had hoped in the first couple of days, she would be found alive, but after that time, my hope dimmed.  I pray Marlies will rest in peace.

It is still to be seen if there will be justice for  the brutal crimes committed against Marlies.  I hope the monkeys that have been so kind to bring us news and information about this case can continue to do so.  There is no news that I can find about it in the U.S.  Thank you all for what you have done and how you've tried to help.

It IS amazing, the brilliance that some dogs can have, and yes, Marlies could have been found immediately. That is the saddest. Had I known about the capabilities of scent specific search dogs when Natalee went missing, I would have tried to help get some there to help her. They should be dispatched on the spot when someone goes missing. They can tell a lot more than humans can.
