Grand jury hears testimony in Casey Anthony case

Anthony will turn self in if indicted

2 p.m. If the grand jury decides to indict Casey Anthony on homicide charges this afternoon, she will turn herself in to authorities, attorney Jose Baez said at his office.

Anthony stood next to her attorney, wearing a white collared shirt with a Where's Caylee button, during the six-minute press conference.

"She is doing her best to stand tall in front of everyone," Baez said. "They [the sheriff's office] threw the kitchen sink at her a long time ago."

Anthony, who has never appeared at a press conference, did not comment. She became emotional at times and shed a few tears.

"Casey is going through a nightmare," Baez said. "She has a missing child. She is also someone's child."

I think Baez was aplogizing to them because when Casey first arrived he yelled at the reporters and told them to get off the property or he was calling the police! Then he holds a press conference!      He must be related somehow!!

The reporter should have yelled back, "The won't be here right away...they're busy testifying against Casey at GJ"

Baez has screwed this case up so bad. Ofcourse hes in for the book deal probably. His inexperience is really showing. If he ever felt she was innocent he would of let her plead to the media to find her baby. If I was the innocent mother of a missing baby no lawyer could hold me back from asking people to help me find my child.

She is only crying because she knows what is coming from the GJ!  She sure didn't cry when questioned about Caylee being missing!

The only reason she is crying now is because she knows that this is her last day of freedom......All these tears should have been pouring down in July when  she was on the phone to 911.....this is the first time I have actually seen a tear and I think it is for her not Caylee.....She  and Baez both make me sick,,,,,,,,,did he really think that this would get any Sympathy for Casey in the view of the public.........I say give it up..........Casey is on her way back to jail and Baez will be on his way back to Kissimmee as another Autourney  steps up to the plate as this goes to trail.........Good Riddanze I say!!!!!!!!!

Lead detective takes the stand
2:22 p.m. Orange County sheriff's Detective Yuri Melich has begun his testimony in front of the grand jury. Melich, who is on crutches because of an earlier motorcycle accident, is reportedly the last person to testify today.

Just wanted to say that I'm checking in and reading at SM while reports are running on the computer here at work, and everything is working fine on my work computer. I think the issue is not the SM server, but each person's own computer. I know it's frustrating for everyone, and I dread how slow my laptop is gonna be when I get back home tonight.

Casey Anthony's Father Asks "Everyone To Have Prayer" Before Testifying

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Casey Anthony's lawyer conceded it was likely an Orange County grand jury would return some sort of indictment against his client in connection with the death of 2-year-old Caylee Anthony.

Casey Anthony could be re-arrested Tuesday for murder depending on the outcome of a grand jury hearing. Prosecutors are trying to get a murder indictment against her for the death of her daughter, Caylee.

At an afternoon news conference, Jose Baez was somber as he used the word "inevitable" to characterize what he expected from today's hearing. Casey stood next to him, crying.

Baez also accused State Attorney Lawson Lamar of using the case to gain political favor in an election year. Baez said Lamar had made Casey "public enemy number one."

The Orange County grand jury was continuing to hear testimony Tuesday.

George Anthony spoke with Eyewitness News before heading inside to testify before the grand jury. He's among several witnesses who testified Tuesday morning, including a cadaver dog officer.

George Anthony and his high-profile defense attorney, Mark NeJame walked up to the Orange County Courthouse just after 9:00am. George gave a brief statement before heading inside to testify before the grand jury and asked for prayer.

"This is going to be very hard for me to do. The focus has always been on my granddaughter and always will be. I love my daughter, I love my wife, I love my son. I want everyone to have prayer for all of us today, especially for my granddaughter. If someone could take a moment out at 11 o'clock this morning and 11 o'clock tonight and just pray for her. That's all I'm asking for. That's all I can say," George said Tuesday morning.

NeJame said his client is doing something incomprehensible Tuesday.

"And that is to testify before a grand jury, considering their investigation and their consideration of homicide charges against his daughter," NeJame said.

NeJame tried to by-pass the long line of people waiting to get inside, but he was turned away.

"My sergeant said that he would have to wait in line like everyone else. And we don't mind doing that," a deputy outside the courthouse told Eyewitness News.

The Grand Jury will decide whether or not to hand up murder or manslaughter charges against Casey Anthony. FBI investigators, Orange County sheriff's deputies, George Anthony and several other key witnesses will all testify. They will tell the Grand Jury everything they know about the case of missing Caylee Anthony.

Just before 10:45am, after testifying for about an hour, George Anthony left the courthouse with his attorney.

"George answered all questions directly and honestly and just did what no human being would ever be prepared to do," NeJame said.

The Grand Jury then took a short break around 10:40am, before an Orange County cadaver dog deputy entered to testify around 10:50am. The Grand Jury broke from lunch just before noon and will reconvene at 1:00pm.
