joesamasmama: I don't personally think it bamboo.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is.
Thanks Brandi, we don't have bamboo in Texas, the leaves just looked like what I have seen on a couch we had back in the 80's

We do have bamboo in Texas, unfortunately....
Really Muffy? I have never seen it where I live. Does that look like bamboo then?

According to hubby, who is smarter than me about plants, there are different varieties of bamboo... we do have some here in east Texas, where it is higher humidity and lots of trees and vegetation. The drier areas like the Hill country or west Texas probably would not have it, as it grows wild.

My rental property is in central Austin, and the bamboo flourishes.  I live near the gateway to the hill country and my neighbor is growing some in the ground near their pool.  Both were planted intentionally.  The bamboo in Austin was planted probably 50 years ago.  The bamboo next door may in the last 7 or 8.  I have seen bamboo growing alongside the road in some places, driving toward Houston.

Lemme add this about shovels and bamboo.  I can't imagine Casey trying to dig at bamboo with a shovel.  It's hard work.  I doubt that's what she was doing with it.  You have to dig a lot up to deal with it, and as I mentioned, sometimes use an axe etc.  Doesn't sound like something Casey would do...

I agree.  She was so busy with work, being a mother, trying to have a social life.  When would she find the time?

You know ... I have to say .... this chloroform issue has me scratching my head .... largely in part due to Ricardo Morales's myspace photo - (seduce her w/chloroform).

It sounds to me like this was "used" among her "peers" ....

I randomly looked up "why make choloroform" and came upon this VERY DISTURBING SITE
http://forum.opiophile.org/showthread.php?t=16139 .... People DO MAKE THIS STUFF to get high ....

so I ask myself ... if Casey was searching for this info ... what would prompt her to do so .... "to kill Caylee?" ... nah .... "to put Caylee to sleep?" .... maybe .... but what comes to mind moreso than either of those two reasons, is perhaps the "new partying crowd" she was trying to impress hang out with .... (trying to fit in and be cool)

MAYBE ... she was "making up a batch" for a "party" and Caylee got into it while Casey was texting or on the phone talking to someone .... she may have fallen into a coma (the reason for the "panic calls" so Casey decided to "throw her in the pool" to cover her chloroform mess .... or thinking the cold water might wake her up .... and it didn't ....

Just some random thoughts for lack of better things to do right now ....

I've thought about this type of scenerio too, it actually makes alot of sense.

Sock monkeys are one of the popular items now for decor for young children. The item in the photo looks as if it might be a small blanket or crib sheet. It's probably not anything to do with Caylee's backpack, IMO.

I agree BT. It could even be a childs footie sleeper thingy. I have wondered if Trenton Duckett had such an item. Anyway...wonder wtf it is doing out in the boonies. ?? It is slow tonight and I am tired. Night all.

Niterzzz Nut ...

IMO the swatch of whatever it is looks to pristine to have endured the hurricanes and rain that has swept thru that area ... it just doesn't look dirty enuff to me ...

Not to mention Casey is the one who said she last saw her child on (originally) the 9th than changed to the 16th.  So if Cindy said she used the shovel to clear the Bamboo because it hurt Caylees feet that was a moot point by the 18h when she borrowed it.

Caylee never had a chance to work so what SS would she have been entitled to???  Death Benefits are only about $200.00, not worth fighting for.  I wonder if the Anthonys could sue their own daughter for "loss of affection".  If they could they probably would.

Children under 18 can receive SS benefits from a deceased father. However, paternity has to be proved in order to get them. If the couple were married, and his name is on the b/c, it is easily proven. If the couple are not married, and his name is not on the b/c, then paternity would have to be established through dNA testing.

Not necassirly.   In addition, Casey could have got alot of aid.  She could get section 8 housing, help with school, and a check.  People make a living scamming the system.

Not sure what you are replying to... yes, children CAN receive SS benefits from a dead father, but it is not that easy if the father is not named on the birth certificate or the couple were not married.
I agree that she could have gotten assistance with other things as well. But since she was living in her parents' house, their assets and salaries would have to be figured in, and she might not have been eligible unless she moved out on her own.

We had a lot of bamboo in Houston ...it was in the field behind our house when we moved in...it is so invasive....it grew under the fence and we were forever trying to get rid of it...no way could we use a shovel to dig it out...so when I heard Casey said she was using the shovel to get rid of bamboo my first thought was LIAR!!
Thanks Sunny. Maybe we have it in North Texas, but I have lived here my whole life and have never seen it. I just wanted to know if those leaves were bamboo.

Yes, those were bamboo leaves...there are hundreds of varieties

Good Evening Monks!!  Forgive me...I seem to be very forgetful tonight...but wasn't the searches for make choloform on Casey's computer done BEFORE Caylee went missing? If so how would George have used choloform to clean the trunk? And didn't the LE who responded that night SMELL the decay in the car? Wasn't it in the garage and Lee had all the doors open etc? I do not recall seeing any statements from those officers so I think I can safely assume those statement have not and will not be released.

I do not think Casey intended to kill Caylee....I do think she was using the choloform to knock her out so she could go out and have a good time. The night at, I think Ricardo's, when they fell asleep in his bed watching TV (I think) and when he woke up Caylee was gone....Casey said Cindy called sometime during the night and insisted she bring Caylee home. She said she did and came back...Cindy denied this EVER happening. Again JMO but I think perhaps Caylee woke and cried....wanted to go home and Casey used choloform to knock her out and leave her in the car. I wish we knew what time she left Ricardo's that morning.  Father's Day night after the fight and she and Caylee left..she went to Tony's....but no Caylee...was Caylee crying and wanting to go home? She must have been very upset to see/hear this argument. Did Casey choloform her to shut her up? Did she give her too much? Caylee died and Casey began the journey of death.  JMO and it changes from one moment to the next.

Very good post and I agree this may well be what happened - Tony said "yeh you can come over but don't bring the kid" or something to that effect.  The night at Ricardo's (I don't know the date) I think you hit the nail on the head - I posted similarly a few days ago.

Sorry I missed your thoughts on this a few days ago...obviously I would have agreed!   and since IMO she was using the choloform she freaked out when she found Caylee dead and knew/thought the cholorform would be found in autopsy. So she started forming a plan ....kidnapping....she just never counted on the car being towed or on Cindy calling the police on her...I think she put the car in the Amscot parking lot...leaving her purse in plain sight figuring it would get stolen...that backfired....but what really gets me is how in the hell did she think she was going to get by with all the lies to the police??

Sunny... I think she was so use to getting away with lying to everyone else that it just did not even occur to her that they would not believe her..

She's a nut case for sure.  She obviously didn't have her story completely figured out when Cindy surprised her at Tony's on July 15th.

Only one problem with this theory - George has stated he saw Casey and Caylee on Monday June 16th at around 1pm - so either he is lying, or, Caylee did not die the night of the 15th... so if Caylee was alive midday on the 16th, she still could have spent the night doped in the trunk of the car.  Maybe that's what happened, then for whatever reason Casey decided to dope her again the afternoon of the 16th and it was too much for little Caylee's system.  OR, she just frikken killed her !  (and I suppose GA could have been lying but I really don't feel that he was lying at that point...)

It's me in the caldren.  I was just in my mini yard picking bamboo leaves, it's dark and I don't think they're the same as in Florida, smaller leaves.  And boy it's windy out here.

OT~  joesamas mama ~  If you are ever in the Austin area and want to see bamboo:

http://www.taniguchigarden.org/

The Texas Bamboo Society meets at 10 am - 1:00 pm the third Saturday of every month in the Taniguchi Japanese Garden, Zilker Botanical Garden, Austin, Texas - for a "Bamboo Garden Study and Workday". Bring a saw, hand clippers and loppers and learn about taking care of the different species of bamboo as you become part of the Taniguchi Revitalization Project!

Yes you can stumble over bamboo; turn you ankle on it. You can fall on it and be punctured.  It is wicked. Some use the giant bamboo in CA for privacy fence. i had the smaller kind... used a shovel, and ax to get rid of it. You can put a very deep metal thingie around it and hopefully the shoots won't go under and beyond that.

I think in jungle wars bamboo is used alot for arrows and arrow tips. Or did I dream that trying to get rid of my bamboo. If I ever would plant it now, it would be in a container~

Very wicked stuff and I, personally, would never ever have it in a yard where there are children!

I know a girl who claimed not to know who the father could be!  She got quit a bit of help.  If Casey wanted out so bad........then why didn't she at least apply.  She could have lied on her application and to the case workers.  Its not like this would have been her first lie.  To me, it just shows that she was not trying too hard to leave her parents home.

There is also "clumping" bamboo that does not take over everything.  To stop "running" bamboo, you need a 2ft deep barrier.  Naturally, running bamboo is cheaper than clumping Smile
