I was making steady progress . . . yes!

It all came to a halt when hit by the Crisis, courtesy of CONGRESS.

A huge chunk of savings . . . vanished.  Social Security is unsteady.  We haven't received the bad news from pension companies who invested in the mortgage market.  We don't know if a President Obama will raise taxes on the very people who do provide jobs.

Yes, I was making steady progress, and hope to continue-- provided Obama is in the Senate, and not the White House.

Now, thanks to Congress, I am closer to the "handout" than I am to "rampant taxation" but the Obama plan is a "Nation Killer" not a "Nation Builder."

This election, I am not voting for what my country can give me; I'm voting for my country!

Obama PAC:
A vote for Obama is a vote for Kenya; a vote for Biden is a vote for Iran; a vote for Khalidi is a vote for Palestine; a vote for Ayers is a vote for Socialism/Anarchy; a vote for Wright is a vote for hate-speech; a vote for Frank 'n Dodd is a vote for Fannie/Freddie; AND . . .

A VOTE FOR PELOSI . . . is a vote for PELOSI--she is for herself, first, last, and always.

THE OBAMA PAC:

What a bargain . . . one vote for all.

a lot of people who are fooled by the fearmongering during this year are going to be surprised to see that Barack Obama won't be a islamo-marxist President after all.
and he will work with moderate Republicans, including senator McCain.

already Bill Kristol is repositioning himself for after the election, saying Obama is not a radical and very much a centrist.
this coming from one of the men who has brought Sarah Palin to the national stage is interesting.

when Limbaugh / Hannity and followers realize this it will enrage their hatred even more.
and it will make the ultraconservatives fringe of the Republican party, who have hijacked their party - and with the country - for years now, hopefully even more extreme.

then the Republican party will have to decide to make massive reforms in their party.
force the ultraconservatives to soften their tone or force them out.

i would very much love to see a new Conservative party as an offshoot emerge from the Republican party.
let's see how many states that party is going to win in 2012 and how many congressmen in 2010.
maybe only Utah, Alabama as a state and a few congressmen from some other states.

i am sure Barack Obama and the Democrates will make a few changes to the electoral process so that in future election the fringes of parties won't be able to dominate the election. possibly more a popular vote decided election
Barack Obama surely doesn't want to go through a crazy election like this one again in 2012.
i believe in 2010 there is a new census with congressional redistricting, this can change the congressional map considerably. likely to the disadvantage of elections decide by fringe issues.

truly fascinating what kind of Republican party is going to come out of all this.
i have high hopes that it will be a more respectable, openminded party.

fascinating caesu, you have totally missed the pivotal point that Obama will NOT be in charge even as President, Pelosi will.

She reminds me of the devil incarnate her thirst for power is so raw and so ugly.

that's a way of looking at it from your viewpoint.

i see it more as Republicans who still have thirst for power after getting very drunk of the power they had over the last few decades in congress and the presidency.
and they are having a hard time seeing it slip away while their cancer ridden claw on the levers of powers is slowly but surely being peeled off.

Yeah, the Carter 4 year tenure sure went a long way toward accomplishing those objectives..... Rolling Eyes
So did the Clinton 8 year tenure. Yeah, I hardly recognize the Republican party in the wake of those two.

who are you kidding? What a crock.

The American Idol candidate Obama-rama is buying the US presidency now.

Yesterday he called ME "SELFISH" for not wanting to spread my wealth (what a joke). Biden donated $358 to charity last year. Obama's aunt lives in the slums of Chicago with NO assistance from he and Michelle.

I'm comfortable betting that Obama's gaffe about us selfish people who don't want socialism is about to bite his rear end bigtime - I pray so - he's overconfident now.

Where is Michelle this week? Why is she under wraps? I guess folks got tired of hearing her say not to vote for him or for her because they are 'cute'.

I'm sorry.  No offense to you, unless you inhale every word this woman says.

In my opinion, Huffington is neck and neck with Murtha and Biden in the race for the buffoonery award.

She and Christopher Hitchins would make a fine pair.

I'll cut it short; I have no respect for Huffington . . . none.

I think it would be better to focus on cleaning up voter lists.

After reading about all the birth certificate and drivers license and registration fraud, I am of the opinion that the election may be a sham, and future elections are on track for fraud too.

Electing a president via popular vote means nothing if the the election is a sham due to ineligible voters on the rolls and voting.

Maybe it's time to bring a national identity card and check everyone's references, including those of Barack H. Obama.

National identity cards seem to be the first world thing to do.

just my humble opinions.

i think the best solution would be to send every eligible voter a voting invitation by mail.
and getting rid of the electoral vote and replace it by popular vote would make it easier for 3rd, 4th, 5th parties.
and go back to paper ballots.
i hope they change this for the 2010 and 2012 elections.

and campaign finance reform. make public financing the only way of financing.
about this i disagreed somewhat with Obama.

Implement a national identity card, verify citizenship and keep the database clean.

Perhaps it would be easier to purge the voter rolls every four years.  Start from scratch.  Some don't go out for the smaller elections.

Clean up the identity fraud and voter roll problems at the same time.

Paper ballots can be modified after the fact.  Why not a two part form, one for going in the box, the other locked up for safety?

WOW, Caesu, I find it fascinating that someone from the nl would be so interested in the good ole' USA's politics....   wonder why that is???

Since you have been following this so closely, tell me...... Limbaugh/Hannity are extreme?  Really?  I thought they were fair.  I can't say the same for the rest of the MSM.  Watching NBC and CNN is like watching an Obama Rally.

I especially like the way Obama is so evasive on so many issues.  He can never seem to answer a question directly.  I learned so much about NOTHING watching him debate.  He could never tell us what he had done............. OH, WAIT, it is because he has NEVER DONE ANYTHING!!  Oh yeah, he was a community organizer.  Whatever the heck that is.

Hmmmm,  did he ever visit our troops in Iraq?  Of course, he knows nothing of our military or fighting terrorism.... he's so cordial to them, he may just invite them on over.

Let's not forget spreading the wealth around.  I sure hope he is the first one to give his money away.  OH, I FORGOT, he wants to give our money away.  Whoops, he already did that,  Fredie and Fannie.  How could I forget.  Yep, we've got a real winner on our hands.  Was the fact that he wouldn't put his hand on the Bible when he was sworn into the Senate a sign?  Definitely.  Of course, you will say that is a hoax............  maybe it was, just like he is.

KYcat, this is posted somewhere else on this board, but to demonstrate your point of the Obama, "non-answer" evasiveness, take a look.

It would be funny if the implications of giving illegals driver's licenses weren't so dangerous to our election process, and social security systems!

As far as any more fair and legal election alterations are concerned, we can discuss it, but it ain't gonna happen.

Having said that, it's an interesting discussion. Particulary the electoral college aspect. Most people don't realize why we have it, but there were good reasons and a real insight to the founding father's thinking. One reason it was created was to insure the voting population didn't make a mistake.

snipped:
Hamilton and the other founders believed that the electors would be able to insure that only a qualified person becomes President. They believed that with the Electoral College no one would be able to manipulate the citizenry. It would act as check on an electorate that might be duped. Hamilton and the other founders did not trust the population to make the right choice. The founders also believed that the Electoral College had the advantage of being a group that met only once and thus could not be manipulated over time by foreign governments or others.
http://www.multied.com/elections/Electoralcollgewhy.html

Another reason it was created was to insure that the entire country would have to be represented. It was wisely noted that without it, candidates would concentrate only on large population centers, and the interests of more rural areas and geographic regions would be ignored. The minimum electoral votes is 3, so actually the individual electoral vote of a sparsely populated state is given artificial weight and does not represent the same number of people as an electoral vote in a heavily populated state.

Furthermore, a candidate can barely loose a state and still, all electoral votes for that state go to the winner, (that decision can be altered by the state, but is almost never done).

The electoral college makes it VERY difficult for a third party. Perot won about 19% of the popular vote, but didn't get a single electoral vote.

There are good and bad considerations, and it is debated periodically, but I'd be surprised to see it changed. It would take a constituitional amendment ratified by 3/4 of states to change the system. It is hard to imagine the smaller states agreeing.

CBB, thank you for that link.  I remember this debate.  I think I have watched them all over the past year.  You are right, it would be funny if the significance of it was not so devastating.  In fact, I did have to laugh because he is so ridiculous.  I never thought, in all my years on earth, that I would ever be scared to live in the USA.  I sometimes wonder if I am the only one who feels this way.  I am not a religious zealot but I am a Christian and I read my Bible.  I feel there are many things that were written that are about to happen.  I am truly scared, for my children, grandchildren, for all of us.

(sorry if that last part should be in the religion thread but I cannot separate what is happening around us from my beliefs)
