Sarah Palin cleared of abusing office in Troopergate scandal

Sarah Palin has been cleared of ethics violations by a report into in the firing of her public safety commissioner.

The report, issued on the eve of the U.S. presidential election, found she did not abuse her office as governor of Alaska.

It said: "no probable cause to believe that the governor, or any other state official, violated the Alaska Executive Ethics Act in connection with these matters."

A separate legislative investigation recently concluded that Mrs Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee, abused her office by allowing her husband and staffers to pressure the public safety commissioner to fire a state trooper who went through a nasty divorce from Mrs Palin's sister.

Mrs Palin requested the second investigation be conducted by the state personnel board after alleging the legislative probe was politically motivated.
