some do.  my sons have a friend who is an 'ex-hacker', who uses his 'skillz' for good now.  he has made a believer out of me, in that the best computer security is set up by an 'ex-hacker', cuz they sure know what to look for and the best ways to protect. 

it's well known that computer giants employ 'ex-hackers', among others, in developing security programs etc.
