Daytona Beach police look for man who tried to pick up 14-year-old girl

Suspect Daytona Beach police have released a composite sketch of a man who tried to accost a 14-year-old girl Wednesday afternoon.

The girl was walking north along S. Ridgewood Avenue near Cedar Street when a white two-door Pontiac Grand Am passed her and the driver honked the horn, Daytona Beach police Sgt. Jimmie Flynt said. The car then turn onto Cedar, blocking the girl's path, he said.

The driver motioned for the girl to get into the car and then stood up through the sun roof and called for her to come over to the car, Flynt said. When the girl turned and walked away, the man got out of the car, leaving the motor running and the door open and followed her for about 30 feet, Flynt said.

When the girl got on her cell phone and began to scream, the man shouted obscenities, returned to his car and left northbound on Ridgewood.

The car is possibly a 2005 model with black scuff marks near the right tail light and the sun roof doesn't sit properly so it tilts upward in the front both when open and closed.

The suspect is described as black, 18 to 22 years old , about 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a chubby build and a light complexion.
