Does any Monkey just happen to know what      Hemoglobin.......Hematocrit....and RBC....  is    and what does it mean if it says they are too high!

Hi HH, I haven't a clue. I could call my stepdad, but I think he may be in surgery right now. I am a dumb monkey, but he would know.

Hemoblobin and Hematocrit (percentage of your blood which is composed of red cells) are the way they measure red blood cells. They can be high if you live in a high altitude, or are dehydrated. (need more fluids)  Some people just have higher RBCs and I would suggest to have another test run before jumping to any conclusions and worrying about it because sometimes lab techs count them wrong too.

Cronic smoking and dehydration can also raise your hematocrit level.

Man  thats weird,   he has never smoked and he is always drinking something so I dont know what to think!

Does he exercise alot?

No.......but he is always on the go.....doing something........I just dont know!

Don't worry....all those levels can vary due to activity level and hydration.

high RBC usually occurs in high altitudes or after exercise because the red blood cells carry oxygen.

dottie, please don't try & figure it out on your own. when my husband first got sick i tried to interpret all his blood tests, cause i was anxious (sp?) all i did was scare us. it was never anything like i "figured out" i would end up making us a nervous wreck until we saw the dr.

Athletes sometimes high high RBC because they exercise heavily.

Oh,  Im not gonna be worried, I just thought I would ask and just see what the three words meant, Im sure its nothing bad, he's 24 and has always been fine and they just did a physical for a new job he is getting ready to start and when I got home the results were in the mail, and I just thought I would ask just to get a idea....Thanks for looking out, but its not worrying me really.....He got the job so it cant be that bad !!!!!!!!!!!!      Oh  and Happy New Year!

my dr. told me to drink gatorade but i hated the taste & it made me have heartburn. never had heartburn til then, so he told me to drink propel. it's made by gatorade & there are so many flavors. black cherry, grape, lemon, lemonade,orange, strawberry, strawberry-kiwi. it's not real sweet but it's been almost 2 years & my entire family drinks, including my 6 year niece. it's not cheap, but sometime i run across the big bottles at the dollar store & i will buy every one.
