They   are just kids...and that poor TEENAGER who was put into a situation he was in no way ready to handle...handled himself beautifully anyway. He may not see that yet.....but it will pay big dividends down the road. He may have been panicky at first, but he sure did play his heart out, and the whole nation of football fans admired him for his effort last night.  I am now a big fan of Gilbert. What a great kid he is, and I can't wait to watch him develop as a player. I hope he stays injury free so we get to see more of him. You could see flashes of brilliance....so exciting!

This should be interesting.. looks like PC really is out at USC.  And recruits are decommitting.  Coaches everywhere will be going after these kids... Problem is the majority of schools already have classes "complete" or close to it and so can't pick and choose players UNLESS they go back on previous offers... this would be an interesting moral dilemna for alot of these guys. ha.

PDH I did see where Auburn has been killing it in recruiting.  Not surprised because the staff was put together with that clearly in mind.  Some real good recruiters.  Like I said, your problem is you want those coaches to stay and get a NC and not get plucked away for HC gigs.  That is a good problem to have.

So I wonder how strict the sanctions against USC will be?  Hard to get a quality HC knowing you would be getting hit before you even start.

I don't know........ sometimes it is BETTER for a high profile job like USC's to be in a situation like this for a new coach. The expectations are lower the first few years.

kiwi...i know what you mean...seems like i have watched more games this year!!! thanks again for your hospitality!
i really enjoyed last nights game! i thought both teams, under the circumstances gave it their all! seemed like they players had a lot of respect for each other...i like to see that. there were no dirty, ugly penalties. the one unsportsmanlike penalty against alabama was on the defensive guy that intercepted the shuffle pass right before half time and just because he threw the football...i think he deserved a little celebration! saban sure didn't like his gatorade bath...lol!!!
Cuz, I read it was a pinched nerve.  His arm was numb and wobbly.  Couldn't control the ball.  Also they said that had he gone in and had further injury his "NFL" insurance policy wouldn't have covered it.

stingers do that, you lose all feeling for days and even weeks at times. son had one once, but it was in high school and he didn't tell his coaches either, but finally they figured it out watching him drag his leg around and pulled him out. It lasted almost a week before the feeling came back & by the time he was playing in college they formed special hip guards as inserts for him - the kid has no hips and therefore no natural padding.

It's the national coaches conference starting on Monday, should be interesting for Carroll's departure will likely be all the buzz there too. The reports around Leavitt are none too pretty too, seems he was a control freak? Many very driven people are.......we sure are seeing the ugly side of coaching and college football lately.

pdh - Auburn will go far this coming season, I'm sure of it.

bean - looks like Nebraska's already in the forecasts for next season in the top ten, that should make you smile.

Off to the banquet this afternoon, the last official college football moment for our family.....please keep son in your prayers, he heads back down south for several more interviews late next week.

One has to wonder if the NCAA truly will go after Carroll and USC, hate to admit it but I've lost all faith in governance.

I was just coming to post that beans! Good luck to Tubbs! He's a great coach, and he will be going to Texas with a renewed spirit after a year of rest. I wish him the best. He is a very good coach, and a very good man with a lot of class. I'm now a Texas Tech fan too!

Good riddance to Pete Carroll! He belongs in the NFL where the sleazy big money and celebrity show-off brand of football belongs. The NCAA let him and a few others get out of hand....especially with the salaries. Money will be the ruin of college football..and we're almost there.
USC should be severely punished for the Reggie Bush violations. I hope that PC leaving is one of the first steps towards cleaning up that program.

Nascar - Thanks for allowing us to be a very small part of your college career. It has been so much fun to watch you play! Good Luck in your interviewing process. Whoever hires you is the smartest boss ever!

Has anyone talked to casa about how her boy is coming along?  I hope he's rehabbing nicely!

NFL says "not so fast" --- No deal between Seattle and Carroll.

I think it would be great if schools would FIRE coaches that make it known they are pursuing other jobs. Breach of contract -- make the coaches pay restitution!!  Monkey Devil!

I agree!  Pete Carrol just accepted some poor kids' commitment 2 days ago.  Makes me so mad how these guys lie to the young kids who are counting on them to be there.  Just not right.

This should get interesting... USC says Mike Riley at Oregon St is their #1 target so OSU's AD is writing a LIFETIME guarantee contract to offer him today.  WOW.

Blogger in LA reports Pete Carroll has resigned.  CBS and others now reporting it as fact quoting blogger.

Saying it will be announced tomorrow.  Now what do they do?  I say they should take the next season off to prepare for 2011.   Monkey Devil!

KTF the funny thing is that the blogger is with that "rag" and no one in LA gives it any credance yet all the networks are running with it.  LOL.  I am guessing the deal is close enough that someone wanted it "out" so USC can get on with recruiting etc.

You worried he might want Sark back?  I'd think he'd be loving life up there in beautiful Seattle.

You never know but,i think Coach Sark genuinely likes his position with the Huskies.I'd be a little more concerned if he'd been here a bit longer or,Jake Locker had declared for the draft.Sark has the full support of Husky Nation.Since Locker decided to remain at Washington there have been around a 1'000 new deposits on season tickets. The bottom line from a Husky fan,as well as the rest of the nation is,the fall of Troy... I've read where he's taking Ken Norton Jr with him.Rumors but,we'll just have to see.I think Pete's getting outta dodge before the Sh_t hits the fan...Sounds like the AD,Mike Garrett doesn't have his back....
