KTF "Cheers"!

I'm happy that the UW/Nebraska game is back.I think we've had some great games in the past.We both now have coaches that aren't scared to go out and play some quality opponents.Win or lose this game will be extremely beneficial for both programs,as well as conferences.I'm VERY excited about an Alliance. Can you imagine a game between USC/Texas on a regular basis?Oklahoma ST./UCLA?Whatta bout OSU VS UW Wreck. If the Dawgs beat the Cowboys,I would drive cross country just to plant the purple and Gold "W" flag in your yard.I'm sure it'd have to be a night recon mission but,i think it's possible.Wreck's eyesight is getting worse with age!All in good fun Wreck. The possibilities are endless, and i do think it may happen.

PRAYERS FOR AN ALLIANCE

The talk on most of the local sports writers forums tends to be about 4 Super conferences being formed, and a potential playoff emerging from that instead of the lame BCS we have now. Who knows how it will all shake out?
I can see the good and the bad of having 4 huge conferences, but if a playoff is the ultimate result, then it can tip over to the mostly good side for me. It would be a more fair and legitimate way to have a National Championship. But boy...talk about recruiting wars...that could potentially turn up the heat even more. There's a lot to be considered when re-aligning teams.....

I HOPE the Alliance works out and quashes the super conference nonsense. There is going to be so much political turmoil over this!!!!! State legislatures are going to try to make some State schools travel in pairs (ie. Texas with Texas A&M, Oklahoma with Oklahoma State etc.). You will see big schools left out of where they WANT to to go and CONGRESS sticking their noses into it. All of these schools receive SOME Federal monies and therefore CONGRESS will mandate a say into realignments. It will be a HUGE fiasco - mark my words!!!!

KTF -- we DO play your neighbors again this year!!! I'm sure you don't mind if we whip up on the Cougs!!  Monkey Devil!

It's already a big fiasco with the BCS leaving out legitimate contenders. That can't continue for much longer without something happening. Plus....the biggest motivator for change...$$$$$$$. There will be a change in the status quo sooner or later. There's just too much dissatisfaction for things to remain the same, and too much money at stake. Everybody wants what they see as their fair share. If college football doesn't fix itself, then the gov't will. It would be much better for all involved for the conferences to make things more balanced on their own.

You can do whatever you'd like to the Cougs Wreck..

Just looking at the map in regards to an Alliance. It would be fantastic not only for the fans but,for recruiting for all schools involved. It would give everyone more exposure in more markets..Just a thought!

It's not that hard to get to the bottom of the Reggie Bush deal. Those cars, houses and bank accounts appeared as soon as he signed on the bottom line with USC. His family had no way to fund all those things without some help from somebody...somewhere. There was no rich uncle who died and left them an inheritance. They didn't find all that cash under a rock, and the cash fairy didn't leave it on their kitchen table one night. Most accounts put it in the area of at least $300,000.
Where does the NCAA think it came from? It's not a hard question....
Reggie Bush should have to forfeit the Heisman, his championship ring, all his victories, and pay a huge fine. Pete Carroll should have to forfeit all of his championships, pay a huge fine, and USC should suffer severe consequences....just like SMU, Tulane and Bama.
The NCAA has been dragging their feet on this one for several years. Why is that? It's not like it was ever a big secret that USC was cheating. They were very flagrant. Get on with it, and punish them. Do the right thing.

It's an interesting dichotomy for are own President Emmert, who will be the next president of the NCAA.I agree with you wholeheartedly pdh3.In fairness,I will say that many players around the country are accepting improper benefits from boosters, agents, alumni, etc, etc! Is it right?Absolutely not!Does it happen?Everywhere,at one level or another.JMOO

I don't think it happens at the level that USC was involved in cheating. The problem with USC is that as a private institution they were arrogant about it, and didn't try to hide it much. They used NFL coaches, bought players, and ignored the NCAA.  USC had the idea that they could do what they wanted. The reason for the cheating was strictly to win at any cost. That's why those wins need to be forfeited, and the Heisman as well. They had their method of operation set up to include cheating as a normal part of the program while the media looked the other way. They ran what amounted to a semi-pro program, and everybody knew it.
Possibly part of the reason it has taken the NCAA so long to even open a file on USC is because USC was the media darling and there was big money involved. Very ugly business.
I don't think you can equate it with a school whose coaches gave money to a student who went to them and claimed his wife and baby were starving, or a kid who took money from an agent to stop his Mom from becoming homeless....without telling his school about it. Still very wrong, but the motivations were different.
The Albert Means mess certainly did not benefit Bama in any way, and the school was punished heavily. Bama was on the bottom for about 7 years. SMU lost everything, as did the Tulane BB team. Memphis is about to get clobbered for transgressions in 2008. Mississippi State has spent 6 years in nowhere land for violations that occurred by an "old school" coach who was no longer there.
Other schools may violate the rules, but most of them get caught, and get hammered. USC has gotten away with it for way too long. It's beyond the point of having any excuse to let it continue, or to let USC escape without harsh sanctions. If they do, then it will be open season for blatant cheating.

Now I have even less respect for USC than I had before....if that's possible. I'm just glad he's gone from the SEC. He wasn't gonna cut it down here anyway. TN was being eaten alive, and they wouldn't have stood for that along with his shenanigans off the field. TN dodged a bullet, and if USC is dumb enough to stand in the line of fire and hand him 4 million dollars....then they deserve whatever havoc he wreaks out there.

I agree with you pdh3.Although, I do think Justice isn't doled out fairly.Take Florida St. for instance!Widespread academic fraud, and I do mean widespread. If that didn't deserve the death penalty, I don't know what does.

The individual records of the 61 implicated athletes will be expunged.

The infractions report detailed the fraud, which involved a learning specialist, an academic adviser and a tutor who took tests and wrote papers for athletes.

“Academic fraud is among the most egregious of N.C.A.A. violations,” the report said. “The committee was concerned with the large number of student-athletes involved in the fraud and especially by the fact that individuals within the institution’s A.A.S.S. unit were involved. The committee was further troubled by the fact that there were warning signs indicating that academic improprieties were taking place, but these warning signs were, for the most part, ignored.”
