Thanks Ktf. Shon is doing very well. After his first round of treatment, there are no cancer cells in his body. He is now in remission. God and his Drs. at St. Jude's

Grrrrr!! Computer issues!!

I was trying to say that a miracle of sorts has occurred for Shon. He is doing better than anyone could ever have imagined. He has lost very little weight, and is in remission. St. Judes is such an amazing place with some of the most talented medical personnel in the world. I am following his journal at caringbridges and his Mom wants everyone to pray for all the kids at St. Judes.
The Auburn family has really embraced Shon and his family, and there has been so much support and thousands of prayers. He is a fighter, and I think he'll be OK. He may or may not ever get to play a single game for Auburn, but he is one of ours anyway, and we will be there for him.

Done.  Just looking at him in that picture makes you realise how much we take health for granted.  So young with lots of dreams.  Hope they all come true.

What a great day.  Perfect weather.  We split the teams evenly instead of ones vs twos etc and it was a slugfest.  Great progress on our offense which you all know we needed.  Our defense it just awesome.  But get this!!!!!

Ndomakong Suh visited and presented the university's strength and conditioning program with a check for 2 million and the engineering program (his major) with 600k.  Yep!  What a friggin awesome man this guy is.

Heard one of the recruits already committed... still waiting for more details.  I am stoked!!  Go Big Red!

I agree Cuz.Now that's a quality young man. Thanks for bringing the story to SM Bean.If any monkey, has more stories about young athletes with this type of character, please post the story.I believe, more often then not,our media tends to give us more negative then positive stories. If we can do anything to promote articles, that also shine the light on what are many wonderful student-athletes,I for one would be greatful.I think it also let's us root for others that we may not have.In my case.I'm a BIG Tar Hell fan but,I rooted for Nolan Smith this year!God Bless!!!! an angelic monkey

OK... here is more feel good.  LOL

Carl Nicks - former Husker that just got a super bowl ring had a run in with Pelini two years ago.  He had a party at his house and a bunch of underage players were there and the cops showed up due to noise.  Pelini does not tolerate drugs of any kind or underage drinking.  at all.

Carl was a senior that year and even though the season was over when this happened,  Pelini would not let him participate in Nebraska's pro day to show off his stuff.  Nicks was mad.  He came back this week to apologise to Bo and make ammends.

Ex-Husker Nicks makes amends for past actions

LINCOLN — Carl Nicks returned to Nebraska on Wednesday with a Super Bowl watch, a new tattoo and a humble act of contrition.

Nicks met briefly after practice with head coach Bo Pelini, who banned the offensive lineman from the Huskers’ pro day two years ago. It was an unceremonious parting with the program before New Orleans made Nicks a fifth-round draft pick.

Nicks called the NU football office Wednesday and asked if he could come by — and now plans to stay for the spring game Saturday.

“I figured it was about time to put some water on some of those bridges I burned,” Nicks said.

As soon as the 2007 season ended at Colorado — along with Bill Callahan’s reign as head coach — Nicks stopped going to class, which he counts among the “immature stuff I did.” About three months after Pelini replaced Callahan, he cited an arrest and Nicks being a bad example for returning players in barring him from pro day.

Nicks said it wasn’t until he got to New Orleans and talked with former Husker safety Josh Bullocks that he realized that he was in the wrong.

“For about a good three or four months I had blamed Bo for it and I was blaming other people, and at the end of the day, you’ve got to look in the mirror,” Nicks said. “Once I got a little older, played a little professional ball, I realized how good I had it and just how bad I treated everybody.”

Pelini stopped Wednesday to shake hands, talk about the Super Bowl victory and let Nicks say his peace.

“I thought it was real important,” Nicks said, “for me to say, ‘You know what, I made some mistakes in the past, I’m older and wiser, I’m here to apologize and I respect what you’re doing and I respect the decision you made then.’”

Nicks said he is still savoring the Saints’ 31-17 win over Indianapolis and proudly flashed a gaudy watch and a tattoo with Super Bowl XLIV alongside an outline of the state of California on his left bicep.

“I just remember when the clock ended and the confetti came, I almost started crying,” he said. “I really thought about all the stuff I’ve been through in life — and I thought about high school and I really thought about Nebraska — and it really hit me like, ‘Man, I need to go back there and really set things right,’ because I didn’t go out the right way.”

I found this article today in the Dallas Morning news about OSU's Dez Bryant. I brought it over to our forum "Orangepower.com".

Dez Bryant has been portrayed as a "bad apple" by the press and it is really so far from the real truth about him.

Here's a great article about our QB Jake Locker in the NYT.As we continue to post articles about character,Ithought I might just chime in and give ya a feel good story from up here in the NorthWest!Turning down millions of dollars because in 20/30 years he didn't want to ask himself what they could have accomplished. After he gets drafted,I hope I can put him up there with Beans Ndamukong Suh.Wreck, maybe he'll be throwin passes to Dez in the league????We can all dream!
