well I spoke too soon, NASCAR called and talked for a long time, which made mom happy

He said the heat was so bad today that it reminded him of Tuscaloosa all over again. He also said it was at the end of practice that the injuries started, just because everyone was so tired and they start losing focus.

So ya'll pray that he and speedy can stay healthy this season, as always, the chance for injury just worries me.

Congratulations to our Kiwi!
I guess RR is a QB1 Whisperer....
GO BLUE!

nonesy...when you say significant.....do you mean season ending? Or to a key player?
Are there depth problems on Nascar's team?
I sure hope Nascar is having a good time, despite the heat.

I heard Chris Todd has moved up the chain in the QB1 search at AU. He's the unfortunate young man chosen to be the starter last season, and he had a bum shoulder that affected his play, on top of all the internal strife and fan displeasure. He had surgery, and has rehabbed well. He apparently is in the mix now.  Good Grief....we have too many and all of them bring something to the field that's compelling.

If anyone talks to casa....get us an update on Speedy!

I'm having trouble sleeping *sigh*

bean - somehow I didn't see the "girdlegate' until now - geez that's nuts. Compression shorts really are not any different than the spanx I wear  How about the NCAA spend that time chasing Pete Carroll's many violations instead? sheesh......

pdh - an offensive player that actually could play a critical role dislocated a joint. It's not a position with depth issues, but he does have some skills not all have. I don't know how long it will take to heal either.........not yet. I really think this is the first year that we don't have some depth issues but then injuries last season nearly took us down, so trying not to be overconfident about anything. I will say I worry most about our OL and our linebackers.....praying the depth holds at both of those.

I'm not sure he was having fun today perse, he's getting so many reps that it's the flip side of the coin - you get tired, you know? Growing pains.......but a good problem to have.

I'll wish AU and Todd, all of the players a more rewarding season. We have a couple that had shoulder surgeries too, have rehabbed well but well.......still you worry. I still remember Joe Tereshinski telling me in a phone call during son's recruitment period to not hope they play too soon, that essentially most starting line-up's are 21 year olds and "men" with "men's bodies". There is a lot of wisdom to that remark......

So have to make myself sleep, work is a bear lately and not in a good way

love the visual of kiwi jumping over the golden!!!! too cute!
have not heard any news of speedy since practices started but will pass along when i do.
ark practices seem to be plugging right along with no serious injuries so far, thank god! we have much more size, speed and depth this year as well.
on a personal note....after 4 years of trying to deal with my hyperthyroidism(graves disease) with medication finally gave up and took
the radioactive iodine yesterday to kill my thyroid. i have to stay 6 feet away from people for 3 days.....so if yall see any radioactive waves coming thru your screen you may want to step back....lol!!!!!

Goodness cuz! That was a big step to take, and I'm sure you didn't do that lightly. Hope it helps you to feel better.
I'll add you to my prayers!
We have to get you well in 25 DAYS!!!

WDE!

none- So sorry you're having insomnia! I have it occasionally too. It used to be worse than it is now. I'll be praying for you also!

Cuz I am so sorry to hear you've had to take that next step with the grave's disease. Is this better for you than the surgery? I'll be praying for you and keep us posted on how you are and you're feeling. With work I haven't had a chance to review the preseason rankings for the SEC yet, so how does this season look for your Hawgs?

I have an update on Speedy from casa to share. He had a tough week this week, he tore his meniscus in practice and will be having surgery this week. So please, please keep him in your prayers !!! The word to date is she should be back in time for the season start but he needs our prayers. I just hate this happened but it sounds like his coaches are just anxious to get him healed and back to playing time. They know how much they need him this season!

pdh - I think the insomnia is just stress with work and also some with my mother's situation. I'll be okay as soon as I get a break.

Yep 25 days and it will slip by so fast...............

i talked to casa last night..none thanks for explaining the situation. coaches think the surgery will be minor and he should be back in 4 weeks. will not get to play in the first game(hawaii...but at least he will get to go...lol) then they have a bye week so he should be back by the second game. apparently he did this first day of practice.

yep....i have put this off for 5 years. i have been taking medication on and off the past 5 years and i guess it is just not going to take care of it. the only other 2 options were the radioactive iodine and surgery to remove it. the dr at the really great hospital UAMS said 90% choose the radioactive iodine. i feel fine...it takes 2 to 3 months to completely kill the thyroid but when it does i will have hypothyroid which is a lot easier to treat than hyper!!!

In the news...

USC's starting QB cracked a knee bone and will be out the first couple games.  The backup is said to be a stud.  Who knows.

VA Tech's star running back is out for the season with an ACL injury.

Not nearly as significant, but near and dear to my heart.... our backup QB that pulled an ACL in spring practice, had surgery and fully recovered tore it again in yesterday's practice.  They said he was 100%.  Hmmmmm  I would have a serious chat with that doc.  Feel sorry for him - the players said he fought like hell in rehab to come back.  These injuries are always so sad.

Every kid has a story.  Stay healthy all!!!

Cuz I so hope this treatment works well for you so you don't have to feel poorly and hopefully less stress on you. I got an email from Casa and it appears the MRI revealed a partial ACL injury as well. So Speedy's injury will take a month to possibly 12 months at the worst case scenario, they should know post surgery what the timeline will be. So we're all praying and pulling for Speedy. Bless his heart.

Bean how did you and I end up signed in at the same time?  I can't remember the last time that happened.

But hey Bean, are you ready for some football?

well Bean I posted at the same time you did - I saw that about VT's RB but I didn't know USC had lost a QB to injury too.

I'm sorry about your backup QB, like you, one has to wonder who or what went wrong there. This has to be terribly hard on that poor player's psyche too.

24 DAYS!!

WDE!!!!

I am so very sorry to hear about Speedy! He's in my prayers. I wonder if he can get a medical and play next season if he wants too. Poor kid. What a shame!

Sorry to hear about injuries to all of these young men. They work so hard, and it can all go down the drain so fast.

cuz -  It sounds like you're gonna be much healthier now. We're all praying for you.
I know NOTHING will keep you away from Arkansas football in about 3 weeks!

none - I can't tell you how much sleep I lost worrying about my Mama last year. I don't think I slept four hours a night last fall while her condition deteriorated. It was awful. With all the demands we have in modern American life, it's a wonder anyone sleeps at all past the age of 3.
Do something good for yourself real soon!

OK...all the teams without a designated QB1 have to make some decisions PDQ. It's almost down to the wire....
To RR and CGC.....Just PICK SOMEBODY, design your offense, and get on with it already!

Hi Pdh

Do I need to ask are you ready for some football?

I guess I need to revise that to what a colleague at work pinged me yesterday, are you ready for some fine college football?

Thanks for your kind thoughts for my mother.

The injuries worry me too for all of the teams and now for Speedy. I think son's knee and hips will always be vulnerable with the injuries he had last season, so I worry. Thankfully his were mild compared to what Speedy has to endure now.

not a good way to start out the morning....all these injuries are heartbreaking! just wanted to pass this email along!!

Talked to Speedy today and they got the results of the MRI.  His meniscus is torn as they knew but also his ACL is partially torn.  They are now saying he will be out from one month to 12 months depending on the success of the surgery.  Please keep those prayers going!  Thanks to you two and to the other SMers who care and are praying for him!

I totally agree. That's great advice.

Please tell Speedy that we're all behind him. Poor kid. This must be such a hard thing for him. I hope he's not in too much pain.

Well...the QB1 question has been settled at AU. Our starter is Chris Todd, who according to sources is much improved after surgery. WDE Chris!
