Subject: Police with a Heart

Detroit Police have recovered the body of an adult
male from the Detroit River at 8:45 AM.

The victim apparently fell in and drowned due to
excessive alcohol consumption. He was wearing a Detroit
lions jersey, black fishnet stockings with spiked heels and
a red garter belt . He also had a cucumber inserted in his
 rectum.

The police thoughtfully removed the lions jersey to
spare the family any unnecessary embarrassment.

Hello all monkey and welcome newbies

I was watching Lock Up raw last night and they had a lady in prison that had killed her husband.
She was in her cell and then she went to the bathroom to freshen up. She had makeup, brush, comb, hair spray, TV in her cell and a locker with all kinds of stuff and when she closed her cell door she had pictures and cards taped to the outside.
I got so darn mad thinking Casey will have all this stuff too. She will buy all kinds of things once a week she will have that to look forward too and that makes me sick. She will still get to put her make up on and have gel and hair spray to make herself all dolled up makes me sick.

But if things go right, she can never never never never never leave.

Yeap that is the up side.
But if A's are not arrested they will see that she has everything she wants.
I mean it looked like the lady was in a collage dorm
Whatever happened to the good old fashioned chain gang? Make them work, not put on makeup and hair spray, they have nowhere to go so why bother.

I don't WANT prisoners to work. It starves out honest people who have a good work ethic and would love to work but can't because companies are hiring prisoners at 25 cents an hour to do all the call center & manufacturing jobs. Too many people who need jobs can't get them already.

And too many people escaped from chain gangs. In fact entire chain gangs escaped. Something about those heavy metal chains makes them a pretty good weapon. The punishment should fit the crime. If they made Casey dig ditches or scrub floors, I'm afraid that would be too much freedom. I want her where she can't get things smuggled in to her, and where she's not able to flirt or get attention anymore.

Boo, wouldn't it be something if Cindy ended up telling all on the stand and getting Casey convicted?  I have wondered about the custody threat, too.  As we all know, it takes a lot to get custody from a parent.  Cindy has said Casey was a loving mom who took good care of Casey.  If so, why would she seek custody and how could she possibly expect to get it?  Custody is taken from a mom only in pretty severe cases of abuse or neglect.  Partying and being out of work will not do it.  Cindy either has a lot more on Casey or she was bluffing.

Partying and being out will do it if you don't come home for days at a time, disappear, and forget to check in on your child. But Cindy might have more on Casey than that. Drugs will do it. Alcohol can do it, if they can show that alcohol comes between you and caring for your child and that you're not interested in reforming.

Misconceptions About Florida Prisons

This following is intended to clarify misconceptions about the Department of Corrections. You are encouraged to copy and circulate it.

1. "Inmates don't work."
Photo of Inmate Mowing

On March 2, 2007, there were 90,679 inmates in the Florida prison system. Private prisons housed 5,353 inmates and the remaining 85,326 were in DC facilities. On March 2, 2007, 81.9% of the inmates in Department of Corrections institutions and facilities were assigned to work, assigned to participate in a Substance Abuse Program, or Vocational Education or Adult Education, or were assigned to some other program activity. The remaining 18.1% were medically unable to work, or were participating in the reception and orientation process, assigned to a disciplinary work squad as a result of rule infractions, assigned to a restricted labor squad or were in some type of confinement for management purposes, including death row.
Photo of Inmate Using Machinery

Inmate labor is used to perform work on farms and gardens managed by the department, construct new correctional facilities, perform repairs and renovations to facilities and otherwise support and maintain the ongoing operation of correctional institutions. Inmates also prepare and serve all meals, maintain prison grounds, participate in sanitation and recycling processes, and work in PRIDE (Prison Rehabilitative Industries and Diversified Enterprises) or PIE (Prison Industry Enhancement) work programs. Additionally, inmates are assigned to Community Work Squads provided by the department. These inmates perform services under agreements with the Department of Transportation, other state agencies such as the Division of Forestry, counties, cities, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. In Fiscal Year 2005-06, the DC's Community Work Squad Program saved Florida taxpayers more than $44.5 million through inmate labor -- a $2.5 million increase from the prior fiscal year.

2. "Inmates have cable television and satellite dishes."

There are no correctional facilities with cable television. The 33 prisons that have satellite dishes use them for staff training as part of the Corrections Distance Learning Network (CDLN). The CDLN saves money by training staff throughout the state simultaneously. Most prisons have televisions available to inmates for use when inmates are not working. The televisions are located in dormitory dayrooms for group viewing. Most of the department's televisions were paid for by proceeds from sales to inmates from the inmate canteens. However, state law now prohibits the purchase of televisions for recreational purposes.
Photo of inmates farming.

3. "Why don't inmates grow their own food and save taxpayers some money?"

Inmates do grow some of their own food and expansion of the Bureau of Institutional Support's edible crops program continues. In Fiscal Year 2005-06, the Bureau cultivated approximately 1,700 acres and harvested approximately 4.1 million pounds of produce including watermelons and cantaloupe. The number of inmates assigned to the edible crops program continues to increase, due largely to the expanded use of close custody inmates supervised by Field Force Officers. Field Force Officers, mounted on horseback, supervise close custody inmates who are assigned to work in the fields cultivating the edible crops. Usually the squad is made up of four mounted, armed officers and one unarmed (on the ground) supervisor who control up to 75 close custody inmates. There are currently 225 of these inmates in Field Force Squads at the following institutions: Apalachee Correctional Institution (CI),New River CI, "O" Unit and Desoto Annex. There are an additional 400 inmates also assigned to the Farm Program. With the privatization of food service in our department, the edible crops program is moving toward more centralized operations on our large-scale farms, thus allowing greater efficiency in processing and distributing harvested products.
Photo of inmates behind gate.

4. "The Department of Corrections determines how long inmates serve in prison."

The Department of Corrections does not determine the length of prison sentences or the length of time inmates serve in prison. Judges and juries, in accordance with state laws and sentencing guidelines, make these decisions. The department is solely responsible for the care and custody of offenders under its jurisdiction. FY 2005-06, the average sentence length for all prison admissions was 4.4 years for whites, 4.7 years for blacks and 5.0 years for all others. The average sentence length for all offenders admitted in FY 2005-06 was 4.6 years.

5. "Inmates still aren't serving most of their sentences."

Offenders who committed their offenses on or after October 1, 1995 are required to serve a minimum of 85% of their court-imposed sentences prior to their release. Offenders released in January 2007 served an average of 86.4% of their sentence. The average percentage of sentence served for released offenders has significantly increased in the last 10 years (January 1997, 67.7% versus January 2007, 86.4%). A downloadable brochure on Time Served by Florida inmates is also available.

6. "Prisons are air-conditioned."
Photo of dormitory with fans.

Only ten of the major state-managed prisons in Florida have air-conditioning in some portion of the facility housing inmates, and many of these are located in South Florida. The following institutions have air-conditioning in the areas indicated: Lancaster C.I. (confinement area); Union C.I. (13 dorms); Youthful Offender institution Brevard C.I. (all dorms); Lake C.I. and Zephyrhills C.I. (a/c installed in Mental Health areas in 1997 at Lake C.I. and 1995 at Z.C.I.); female institutions Broward C.I., Hillsborough C.I. and Homestead C.I. (all dorms); Dade C.I. (Mental Health area) and Charlotte C.I. (Mental Health area air conditioned in FY 1994-95) The five Florida prison facilities built under the privatization contract are also air-conditioned.
Photo of inmate in cell.

7. "Inmates who get life sentences don't really stay in prison for life."

Since 1995, anyone sentenced to life in prison is serving a life term with no possibility of parole. On June 30, 2006, there were 628 Florida parolees and 1,526 parolees from other states under supervision in Florida. Offenders sentenced to life for non-capital crimes committed between 1983 and 1993 are serving life sentences without any chance for release. Ironically, offenders sentenced to life for capital crimes committed between 1983 and 1993 are parole eligible after serving 25 year mandatory sentences. These sentencing provisions appear reversed, but they are correct. This anomaly in the law lasted from 1983 to 1994. Since 1995, anyone sentenced to life in prison is serving a life term with no possibility of parole. On March 3, 2007 there were 10,412 inmates in prison serving life sentences. A total of 5,923 were serving life with the possibility of parole and 4,489 were serving life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Thanks, Boo! I learned a few things I hadn't known.

Dear Klaas,

I know you have all of this information because you are an an=administrator here at SM.  I'm completely fine that you and Red have this info too.

I just want to tell you why I won't join the SM Facebook site.  I simply don't trust that anyone in the World would have access to my information.  Especially because I simply can't use a false ID.  It just wouldn't sit right with my moral code.

((((()))))
PJ (Paula) flower

When you join ScaredMonkeys on Facebook you are a "fan", it's not the same as being a friend. You have to OK somone to be your friend and THAT gives them access to your information. Plus there are safeguards on Facebook that can block your information too. Just an FYI!

Just got back home, I was gone for several hours.

When I posted that SM was now on Facebook it was by no means a suggestion that anyone should join, it was simply for information purposes.   I think it's just one more way to spread information about missing persons.  Don't forget Red had the dedicated site for Missing Persons as well:

http://missingexploited.com/

But what's out there on Facebook, if you look, has nothing at all to do with Missing Persons. To read the profile, you'd assume that Scared Monkeys is simply a group about Conservative politics. The article currently up on Facebook is about how the media is responsible for the economic downturn. Nothing about any missing persons at all, and no hint of any such topic.

You know, in that picture with Mallory and the policeman, she doesn't look very upset, or shocked. I think my knees would buckle and I would need some help, but she doesn't look upset at all.
You are very right.  She does not look surprised in the very least, she actually looks argumentative and confrontational if you ask me.
I would have been crying my eyes out, even if they were not sure it was Caylee at that time, but just at the fact that a small childs body had been located so close to "home".

Really? I guess you're a lot more sensitive than I am. I would not have cried at all, not after six months of people wondering and speculating about the case online, in the paper, on TV, and in front of the house.

I probably would have just taken a deep breath, sighed, and nodded, because it's what I'd have suspected all along. She looks to me like she's serious, respectful, not shocked, but concerned.  She knew Caylee but hadn't spent much time with her. Any tears she's shed she probably already shed.  I don't think she looks angry or argumentative, just kind of serious.

Hi Little Momma! I assumed y'all are talking about Mallory....I wonder if there is a possibility that she didn't know at that time that Caylee's remains had been found.  If she did she is a cold hearted boitch ...as you said she didn't look upset...I would have never been able to drive over there that quickly!
Well she made it over there just after we heard that Cindy and Geo had been called about the discovery, and there were numerous Cop cars at the scene, not to mention the media choppers and trucks parked at the home.  I highly doubt that she had no clue....not saying that you monkeys are wrong, but I just do not buy that.
My first question would be, when being asked to leave the home and not enter, "Why? I have to feed the dogs and I have permission to be here."  The detective "We have found remains in the woods near by and are now considering this to be a crime scene."  There she would now know about it.
She either knew upon arrival, or was told upon interception.  Either way, she left that house without shedding one single tear, got in her Jeep Liberty, and left.

Good Evening Monkeys......Mallory was already in the house when cops arrived. It took her forever to answer the door....I think the pregnant look is a couple of rolls of duck tape under the shirt.

The fact that she was already there BEFORE the cops, suggests to me that she was on her way there before it was ever announced that the remains were found. She was there already before George and Cindy knew the remains had been found, apparently. I'm sure she was told upon interception, but just because she didn't cry, doesn't mean she stole duct tape or anything else. I think if the cops had any reason to think she was hiding something they'd have patted her down.

And if she IS pregnant, has it occurred to anyone that she might have been slow to answer the door because she was doing what pregnant ladies do in the bathroom at 9:30 AM?

Within minutes of the discovery being reported online and on t.v. there were reports of Cindy frantically texting on the airplane.  She had time to get a hold of Mallory, or perhaps Mallory was already on her way to feed the dogs when Cindy said, "grab the duct tape."   Too bad LE can't get a search warrant for THOSE text messages.
Do we really know she took the duct tape????

No, always1, we do not. In fact we have no reason to think she took anything, or that LE didn't get all the duct tape that might be at the Ant's house. Probably Casey was smart enough to use Amy's duct tape.

They can get a warrant for those messages--there's probable cause.

I seem to be the only one here, so I'm going to head out.  Before I go, SS, thanks for the pics and the article. Lisa, ITA. Honor killings are evil, but it's too cliche for the killer to be motivated by moral outrage or sexual jealousy, so they just don't do much of that anymore on TV. --it happens so much in RL that it's too predictable to sell.  It's too 1998.  MM, congrats on your good news! The babies are in my prayers.

Klaas I don't know if this is possible but I was thinking today that it would be really interesting to do a survey on the demographics of the members of SM....Like male/female, age group, single/married  etc.

Just a thought...

Well, it seems that I am talking to myself (it's only 4 a.m., come on folks where are you  ) anyway, I really want to know when those scumbag Anthonys are going to put that sweet baby to rest and give her a proper burial and memorial service.  It really bothers me that it is taking so long! Once again, they are only being selfish and thinking of themselves...it makes me sick.

I like the Monkeywink logo you made, Quiet Monkey!  Thanks for the welcome!  I was afraid people would ignore this newbie's question.  Thank you all for considering the possibilities.  I have been reading this site for some time and I always update my husband before we hit the sack.........

He used to roll his eyes when he caught me on the computer, but now he asks, "Anything new?"

Thought I'd post something I found interesting (the "third voice").........sorry to interrupt Dana's show!  I was grading papers and getting ready to go back to school tomorrow, so I wasn't paying much attention to the time...........

Sorry for replying so late-went to sleep last night!
The MonkeyWink was cute, I didn't make him though! I found him on out there on the internet. Same place I found mine.
Here he is again, I guess you could use it for your avatar if you want:
Or, look around there are other winking monkey pictures out there in computer land!

BTW, Gooood Morning Monkey Friends! Wake up and smell, in mean drink, the coffee!
There, that's better!
