I'm glad you volunteered, AZ!  I ran for the door!
CBB, I know you are better schooled in science than I!!  You've been so quiet, I thought you'd gone to bed.

I've been doing my stuff in my thread. Are you kidding me?? You know very well that I cannot keep my mouth shut!! Even when there's nothing to say, I'll find something to talk about!!!

I wish they would bury Caylee. I don't care if they want jewelry or whatever, I just want something nice for that child's remains!!! I want them to honor that child! Nobody can even start the closure process without it, IMO, and this just is not right.

ok in terms of dna testing. everyone is making such a huge connection between lees dna being tested against caylees and incest. my question is this, if a sample was obtained (lets say from one of the pieces of clothing they took from slores closet) and its either so small or degraded that they can only do mitochondrial testing, would using a siblings sample to compare mutual parental markers help differentiate between the mother and the child?

Well, I'm wondering why they would want to know whose DNA was on the piece of clothing.  It would be normal for the owner's DNA to be on the clothing, but it would also be normal for DNA from the people who lived with the clothing's owner to be on the clothing.  I just don't see a reason for them to do this kind of testing. It wouldn't show anything of value.

Oh, Peanut! I love you. You are a true insomniac. I'm here late at night, but I can't even type, much less form a question like that!!

I really know the answer, but I wouldn't want to show everybody up.

You're an adorable kitty, but hon, you really are a vampire! You just get sharper and sharper as the night goes on!!

If they tested Casey's pants, it would have been for blood or bodily fluids.  If they found these, then they need to identify them, but I don't think mtDNA tests are used for this.  I might be wrong, though.  Need a second opinion on this one.

If they did find bodily fluids on Casey's pants and wanted to see if it was Caylee's, then they would directly compare the sample to Caylee's DNA, wouldn't they?  This would be more accurate than using parental samples to simply rule out?

I had a cat that looked like yours. Mine was part persian and part siamese. It stayed the size of a kitten. We had to give it away, broke our heart. Named her CoCo, and called her Miss Chanel sometimes.

If it were decomp on the pants, then they would have to compare it directly to Caylee's DNA for id.  However, it were Caylee's urine, vomit, saliva, or any other bodly fluid excreated during life, then it would be perfectly normal to find this on the mother's pants.  Would they be able to tell if the stain was pre or post mortem?  If the clothing was washed?

I only can think of one reason to directly compare Lee's DNA to Caylee's.

DNA testing has improved rapidly over the years. There is no telling what they can determine these days.

I thought it was a pretty common practice to take samples of members of the family to compare with any foreign dna that might pop up.
