does anyone know yardwise, just how close the nearest body of water is? maybe a boat could have been used?

I sound like a moron now but it was 400 feet or 400 yards I want to say yards. Dangit, I cant keep up with all the links. So unless I find a reliable source don't listen to me, heh.

Detectives have talked to the child. Relatives on both sides say he told police he saw a man in a ski mask come in their trailer and leave with his big sister.

Just thought we'd throw a ski mask in to the all black outfit.

I dont know the real distance, but I know its close enough to walk to because I heard that Ronald has walked down there and gone fishing before!

ya thats what i was wondering, it doesnt sound like a terribly long distance, and a boat could be another possibility as an escape.

yea but I kinda dont agree with this theory, this river is a really slow moving river which means you need a motor, and of course headlights, as its very dark, and it goes past alot of homes and I think someone would notice this!

Oooh good catch on the motor and the headlight. That would be very risky. Someone mentioned that it was a bright full moon that night, but with all those thick trees not sure what good it would do without the light.

Original newspaper article about Ch case.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Report: Intruder fondled girl,
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 10:31 AM EDT
11 by Andy Hall
Palatka Daily News

A man wearing a ski mask is believed to have entered the bedroom
window of an 11-year-old girl and fondled her before fleeing
through the same window of her Interlachen home Tuesday night.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's
help in identifying the suspect, who has been described as a
white male between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet tall with some
facial hair beneath his lower lip.

Officers appear satisfied the suspect is not a family member.
"We look at evidence from every possible angle and it's
our belief it was someone from outside the home," said Lt.
Gary Bowling of the sheriff's office.

What the evidence does suggest, according to a statement from
the sheriff's office, is that the suspect may have cut himselfwhile entering the window and may have injuries

consistent with

having been cut.

"We collected blood and if we pinpoint a suspect, we can

use it to collect DNA," Bowling said.

While there may be a heightened sense of awareness of

home invasions

and abductions involving children from news reports

across the

country in recent months, Bowling said the sheriff's

office has

not detected an increase in such incidents, either in the

county

or nationwide.

"We see this as an isolated incident," he said. "We

would tell citizens to take all the normal (home

security) precautions

they would take every day."

Information about the incident should be directed to

Detective

Dan Fleming, who can be reached at 326-2783.

That's alright, actually there's a whole article out there somewhere about how w/children they don't say things, they let them talk than figure it from there.  If they talk, the interviewer they tend to lead children into believing things.  So I would guess from face covered up  we get ski mask?

At the outset of Miss Haleigh's disappearance I questioned the tracking dogs going to the railroad tracks and water (St John's River/tributaries/canals?).  Cummings family resided very, very close to both.

I was listening to a broadcast one eve and the reporter was drowned out by train warning, so that implies it moves slowly through intersections thereabouts.

Dispatcher/deps are recorded saying early on that whomever should contact CSX re. their schedule through that area.

As re. tracking dogs, I would have taken them to the other side of the river that night to see if scent was picked up on the other side, but I never heard that LE/K9s headed over to the other side at that juncture.  Maybe they did head over there, but if they didn't it was a lost opp imho.
