This was from may 19 2009 from Detective Benton.. The fellow with the map pictured above..

"One tipster thought they saw Amber in a semi-truck, coming across the Mexico border in Tecate.  Our investigators not only found the truck but talked to the driver and the girl who looked similar to Amber, but wasn't her,"said Benton.

Amber's Mom Has a Theory About Mystery Truck

I thinks, Garcia is running with this one..
It kind of makes sense..
A American girl gets in a Semi truck driven by a Mexican dribver ? and crosses the border into Mexico ?? The driver appears to admit that there was in fact a girl with him but that it was not Amber ??
How many American girls get into semi trucks and go into Mexico ?? NOT MANY.

Anyways Garcia has talked some stories before.. So Who Knows, he could be just raking down the family for money.
jmho
I don't know anything about this Garcia guy.  The stepfather (in video link above) said something to the effect that he's not getting his hopes up. Michelle Bart & HelpingHeros do not have a good opinion from me with all the schenanagans(?) she pulled in cahoots with the Anthony family.

The tip doesn't sound that credible to me, Lov. I agree with her step-dad.

As far as Michelle Bart goes...I wouldn't have her involved with my missing child's case, even if you paid ME.

Thank you for all the updates. I am praying for Amber. I hope that one tip comes in, that will give her family some answers to help bring her home.

Bumping this up to spark some conversation regarding this latest arrest of attempted kidnapping in Anaheim, CA.

Man arrested in attempt to kidnap 10-year-old girl
Authorities believe suspect is connected to other incidents, including one in Irvine.

ANAHEIM – A 26-year-old man authorities say tried to kidnap a 10-year-old girl by offering her money has been arrested.

The girl escaped on her scooter.

Alfredo Granados Canchola of Artesia was arrested by Sheriff's Department investigators Monday afternoon in Santa Ana. Authorities believe he may be connected to other similar incidents, including one in Irvine. That case is under investigation.

Canchola is being held on $100,000 bail on suspicion of attempted kidnapping.

About 3 p.m. Saturday, a man driving a Lexus approached a 10-year-old girl who was throwing out trash behind the apartment complex she lives in on the 9900 block of Broadway Street in unincorporated Anaheim, Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

The man reportedly asked the girl if she knew someone, giving her a female's name. The girl said no and started to walk away. But the man parked his car, got out and showed her a handful of cash, Amormino said.

"He asked her that if she wanted the money to come in the car with him," Amormino said.

But the girl got on her scooter and ran to tell her father. The girl's father ran out to catch the man, who he saw driving away, Amormino said. The father managed to get all but one of the Lexus' license plate numbers.

An investigator at Irvine Police Department provided sheriff's investigator Jeff Brown with crucial information that eventually led to the arrest, Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said.

According to Irvine police Lt. John Hare, a 16-year-old girl contacted Irvine police in May to report Canchola had contacted her, but his "bizarre behavior" worried her. The case is still under investigation, Hare said.

Brown said he believes Canchola may also be connected to other cases in Orange and Riverside counties. Canchola was arrested after he unwittingly agreed to a meeting in Santa Ana with Sheriff's investigators Monday afternoon.

Ok, as I have confessed before at being geographically illiterate, especially on the west coast, I had to look up Orange & Riverside Co.  They are both immediately north of San Diego Co. http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/ca_map_counties.html

So could this man be the same man who was suspect in the February attempt in Auburn involving red truck?

Brown said he believes Canchola may also be connected to other cases in Orange and Riverside counties.

And San Diego Co?

If his occupation is detailer wouldn't he have access to many different vehicles?  Including a full sized red pickup truck with spotless chrome wheels?

Date: 02 December 2008
POLICE are investigating the attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl in Ayrshire on Sunday.

The girl was walking along Woodlands Avenue towards Caldon Road in Irvine at about 7pm when she passed a silver vehicle, which was parked facing her on the road.

The front passenger door was opened as the young girl passed the vehicle and a male grabbed her by her wrist and tried to entice her into the car.

The girl managed to break free and ran home. She was unharmed, but has been left badly shaken as a result of the incident. It is believed that the suspects drove off in the direction of Bank Street.

Ladera parents vigilant after attempted abduction

LADERA RANCH – In the wake of Sunday's attempted abduction of a 10-year-old boy from a residential street in Ladera, school administrators are asking parents to be watchful for the safety of their children.

All four Ladera public schools – Chaparral Elementary, Oso Grande Elementary and Ladera Ranch Elementary and Middle schools – sent an e-mail to parents regarding safety guidelines for students.

Authorities released this sketch of a suspect that tried to lure the boy on Downing Street. The man is described as in his 30s with blond or light brown hair and a goatee, who was wearing a black T-shirt with the word "Quicksilver" on it and an earring in his right ear.

Meg Gwyn, principal of Ladera Ranch Elementary School, told students during Monday's flag salute that a Ladera student had been approached by a stranger.

Gwyn said she reminded students to always walk with a partner, whether on or off campus, and to never go anywhere with a stranger.

Gwyn said she also asked teachers to continue talking to students about ways to stay safe.

Ladera parents say they plan to keep a more watchful eye over their children.

Michele Ensley, 36, lives on the corner of Downing Street, where the attempted abduction took place.

"I was shocked," said Ensley, the mother of a 4-year-old, a 12-year-old and a 14-year-old.

Ensley, who learned of the incident Sunday afternoon, said she didn't let her 12-year-old daughter and her two friends sit on the park bench directly across from their home after nightfall. Ensley said she's let them do so in the past.

This time, the girls sat in the back yard.

"It's good that we open our eyes," said Ensley. "We take our safety for granted."

Tay Crivello, 34, said he's also become a more protective parent.

Crivello, the father of a fourth-grader at Ladera Ranch Elementary School, said he didn't let his daughter walk to school Monday with her friend.

Crivello said he plans to supervise his daughter more and talk to her again about safety rules.

"It takes something like that to open your eyes," he said.

Sunny Alahmad, the parent of a 4-year-old and a resident of Downing Street, said parents need to watch their children at all times.

"I hover like a helicopter," said Alahmad

There does appear to be a pattern of behavior in the area of Irvine...
I am working at the moment but these 2 incidents were easy to find.. So I posted them.

I agree it does not fit with speculation with what is believed to have happened with Amber.  However, I'm curious none the less.  Especially with the Detailer job.  Being held on $150,000 bond for attempted abduction, is that normal?

It says "Mexican-Latin American" http://www.ocsd.org/whosinjail?IDX=whosinjail&FormAction=BookingNo&BookingNo=2529819
I'm not sure what that means.

How had Canchola contacted this 16 yr old?  By cell phone, myspace?  Odd.

The Associated Press
3:26 p.m. August 4, 2009
WHITTIER, Calif. — Authorities say a Bellflower woman survived having her throat slashed and was able to describe her attackers, leading to three arrests.
Jason Zuhlke of the Whittier Police Department says the 20-year-old woman was left for dead early Tuesday in the Turnbull Canyon area.
Nearby residents discovered the woman screaming, with a four-inch cut across her neck. Zuhlke says she underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition.
Her descriptions led to the arrests of Vincent Mendoza, 21, Edward Meraz, 24, and Jose Ayala, 27, all of El Monte. They were booked on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping.

Dog teams join search for missing teen Amber Dubois
By Debbi Baker
Union-Tribune Staff Writer
8:42 a.m. August 19, 2009

ESCONDIDO – Two specialized dog teams based in Virginia are in the North County this morning to renew a search for missing teenager Amber Dubois who vanished more than six months ago.

The 14-year-old was last seen Feb. 13 about 7:10 a.m. while walking to Escondido High School with a tall teenager who has never been identified. Despite widespread publicity and numerous searches, no trace of the girl has been found.

The dogs belong to the VK9 Scent Specific Search and Recovery Unit, a nonprofit organization, said Sarah Platts who is the officer in charge of the group. They arrived with their handlers at Lindbergh Field about 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The canines, a 5-year-old yellow Labrador retriever named Quincy and an 8-year-old German shorthaired pointer named Jack, are trained to follow the odor of a specific person to the exclusion of all others and are often deployed on cases that have gone cold, Platts said.

On Wednesday, the dogs will be searching in areas Platt declined to specify and will have a dual purpose - to confirm whether Amber was actually at any of the places she may have been sighted and to develop new leads - “ideas perhaps they never thought of,” Platts said.

The team will be in Escondido until Saturday, Platts said.

The VK9 SSSAR Unit is conducting the search at no charge to the family in return for reimbursement for travel expenses, Platts said.

They teams support law enforcement and assist in criminal and missing persons cases and also work with emergency management agencies across the country.

Edward - if I am remembering correctly, you had a couple of places that your experience led you to think should be searched.  I hope that the family will consider those locations.   Are they aware of your suggestions?  Sure hope they are.

Based on a cell tower and one attempt to call that number.
As well as few other factors that support that direction of travel.

Oh yes, I pay close attention to your posts because I know you have the knowledge and experience to back-up your statements.   Now taking notes?  Not so much.

Amber's Father Moe Dubois was on Voices for Justice yesterday.  I missed it as it is PST and too late for me but you can listen to it if you want here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/helpingheroes/2009/08/20/KIDNAPPED-part-2

Along with Josh Ducket, Brittanee Drexel's father (although I'm not sure if it is her father or step father), Adji Desir's father was at work and could not be there.  Warning:  it is Michelle Bart hosting

OK, I bit the bullet and listened.  Moe said that they are waiting for FBI report on red truck any day with exact make and model.  That is really the only good lead that they have right now.  I'm not sure if this was live or recorded.  What has taken so long I do not know.
