LOS ANGELES - Investigators in Southern California have found a second human skull in a national forest close to where hikers discovered the first on Christmas Eve.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said yesterday it's unclear if there's any connection between the two skulls.

Whitmore said the second skull showed signs of some form of trauma. He gave no further details.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Investigators in Southern California have found a second human skull in a national forest close to where hikers discovered the first on Christmas Eve.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said Saturday it's unclear if there's any connection between the two skulls.

Detectives and coroner's investigators came across the second skull in Angeles National Forest Saturday morning in a search of the area where on Thursday hikers found a skull with a bullet hole in it.

Whitmore says the second skull showed signs of some form of trauma. He gave no further details.

Both skulls were found in a region of the forest that was ravaged by a massive wildfire in August.

<snipped>

The initial discovery of human remains was made around 5:35 p.m. Thursday on the Angeles Forest Highway near mile marker 19.36, said Deputy Rick Pedroza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

``It was a skull, found by a hiker,'' said Los Angeles County Coroner's Investigator Jerry McKibben.

That location is near Lucas Creek, a steep drainage that feeds Big Tujunga Canyon above the Big Tujunga Dam, according to a duty officer at the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's station. It is along Highway N-3 about 20 miles north of the junction near Mount Wilson between Angeles Forest Highway and the Angeles Crest Highway (California Route 2).

The hillside where the skull was found is in or near a recently burned part of the forest, McKibben said.

I pray that two families can find closure with the discovery of these remains.  There are so many missing in California it could be anyone, no gender or approx age known yet.  Does anyone want me to map where these two skulls were found?

Yes, many of us geographically challenged monks would appreciate a map.  Thanks for the offer.

I had posted this link in the April Pitzer thread.. I have been looking at highways and trying to decide which route and why there are multiples to the skulls found.

Hi All,
I just wanted to share something with you. When I first saw the flyers for Amber and heard about her on the news, I thought I would be doing a good thing by attending a vigil and trying to offer some sort of comfort to her mother. After all of these months, it has actually been myself who has gained so much by this whole experience. Ambers mother can come off as a tough cookie, going a mile a minute, talking faster than you can keep up, showing a strong face to everyone. She stays busy busy busy. Here is the thing though. She rarely lets her guard down. She uses all of her strength to keep it together for Amber. This holiday season was horrible for her. She broke down in a department store and had a panic attack. She was horrified for strangers to see the tears streaming down her face. She went out of her way to give her other daughter a wonderful Christmas. I went with Carrie, Amber's mom to a church function. I told her that she needs to try to do everything that she can to give her other daughter a nice Christmas. She asked me if I was in her shoes would I make a stocking for Amber? I could not answer her. I thought if it was too gut wrenching for her than she probably should not do it. She had to do it she told me, or her younger daugher would think that Santa did not love Amber.  She told me it was going to be so hard making a stocking for her beloved Amber. She did what Carrie does, plodded on. What started off with myself thinking that I was doing something good for someone else, ended up with myself being the truly blessed one. Carrie is one of the strongest people that I have ever met. She has taught me so much. When you do not think that you have the strength to go on, you do. If you think you need to give up, you don't. She has endured 9 months of total hell and yet she is still strong and nothing will keep her from finding her daughter. She has attended classes on search and rescue, human trafficking, worked with search dogs. She has done search after search, vigil after vigil. She even went to McCleary to help Melissa B. Ambers mother has shown me true strength under the most extreme circumstances. I want Amber to come home so bad!

Hi Edward,
I really do not think that Amber left on her own anymore. I really thought she might have in the beginning but there are too many things that have taken me in another direction. The obvious bond between Amber and her mother. The friends that I have met and the other family members that I have met. You would not believe the support system that Carrie has. They all care so much for Amber and Carrie and have done so much to try to find Amber. I have dug and dug and have yet to find one thing that would lead me to believe that she left on her own. I truly wish that she did. That would mean that she is probably o.k. If anyone can find anything that leads them to believe that Amber left on her own, please post it. I would much rather hang on to that than the alternative, an abduction.

In that video it shows cloth going into a bag..
So they do not have Only a Skull to go by.

They find bodies up there all the time according to the detective on the interview.
It will take quite awhile to identify if at all.

I missed that when I first watched it.  Here are two screen captures.  In the second one it almost looks like whatever they are putting in the bag has a strap.

Pet Dog Digs Up Human Skull
KTLA News

LANDERS, Calif. -- Authorities are searching for human remains after a dog unearthed a skull and brought it back to its owners backyard.

The dog's owners called Riverside County Sheriff's authorities Wednesday after their pet carried the human skull to their back yard, adding it to a pile of animal bones.

According to sheriff's spokeswoman Cindy Beavers, the dog's discovery prompted a 10 acre search of desert nearby on Thursday.

Coroner's officials say the skull may have been buried in the desert for up to 2 years.
