BACKGROUND

Mr. Stephen J. Schaefer was a Managing Director of Riverstone Holdings LLC. He joined the firm in December 2004 and was based in Houston. Mr. Schaefer focused on investment opportunities in the energy and power sectors, with a primary emphasis on the power segment of the energy industry. He has been exclusively involved in the energy industry since 1993. Mr. Schaefer has bought, sold and managed power generation facilities, trading companies, mid-stream natural gas assets, ... and regulated gas and electric utilities in the United States, Latin America and Europe. His most extensive involvement has been in non-regulated power projects. Mr. Schaefer has led or had a material involvement in transactions involving more than 14,000 megawatts and an aggregate transaction value in excess of $8.5 billion. Prior to joining Riverstone, he was a Managing Director with Huron Consulting Group, where he founded and headed its Energy Practice. While at Huron, Mr. Schaefer served as the interim Chief Executive Officer for a merchant generation company. He advised buyers, bank groups and creditors committees regarding power assets, including the Mirant and National Energy Group bankruptcies. Prior to joining Huron, Mr. Schaefer was a Vice President of Acquisitions and Divestitures for Duke Energy. His responsibilities included all aspects regarding the acquisition, management and divestiture of power activities, including generation facilities, trading books and trading companies. Before joining Duke, Mr. Schaefer served as a Vice President of LG&E International, responsible for domestic and international mergers and acquisitions and as the Director of Business Development for LG&E Energy Corporation. He started his career in 1987 in the Financial Advisory Group at Ernst & Young in New York. Mr. Schaefer is a Member of the Investment Committee for the Carlyle/Riverstone Renewable Energy Infrastructure Fund I. He also serves on the Boards of Directors for Topaz Power Group, Bottle Rock Power, Coastal Carolina Clean Power, Collingwood Ethanol and Green Earth Fuels. Mr. Schaefer served on the Board of Directors or the Management Committees for Huron subsidiaries. He is a qualified C.F.A. Mr. Schaefer received a B.S., magna cum laude, in Finance and Accounting from Northeastern University in 1987.

I found the Sec. of State registration for UE today - it was registered on 5/17/07, which is interesting because that's the same month that Schaefer called Dave Holloway, per Tim Miller.

We don't know the date he called (I don't), but I'm curious if UE was registered before or after that phone call.

I noticed that and thought they had been sandal shopping together.
Made me giggle.
Sandals don't seem ideal for being on a ship.
