Thanks Peanut for your response.  So, your IP address is connected to your location thru your ISP?  For Example, AT&T could provide information regarding what person was provided that particular IP address?  But what about thru a public access port or an open/unprotected wireless signal? Would that be "traceable"?

Bump.   I wonder about this, too.    When I was in DC last week, I used the hotel internet provider.   Did I have a different IP address - or did it change when I went to a different internet provider?    I hope I'm making sense.  I'm running on a lack of sleep.
 

Your IP address for each time you are connected depends entirely on the ISP you are connected through.
So, at the hotel, if you used their ISP to connect, you'd have a different IP than when you are at home, connecting to the Internet through your ISP.

If I make a change to my Myspace account from my home computer it registers what IP address that I made the change from thru the ISP.  What I want to know is this:  If I make changes to my Myspace account while sitting in the parking lot of Sawgrass apts linking to some poor soul's unprotected wireless router, and the OCSO pulled my myspace update records for that time frame, would the change show up as the poor unsuspecting soul's IP address?  Does this make sense?  Anyone see where I'm going with this?

IF myspace keeps records of the IP that logs in to the site, then yes. It would show that you logged in with that IP (the poor soul's unprotected wireless connection.)

Hi Dolce!    We got it off, with the help of a chain saw!   Left a nice dent in the roof/back hatch area - but at least it wasn't on the house and no one got hurt!    Thanks for asking!
