Venezuela Delays Orinoco Bids by 2 Weeks
by  Nancy Agin      Rigzone      Thursday, March 05, 2009

According to a report by Bloomberg, the Norwegian embassy in Caracas has confirmed that Venezuela will postpone a major offer of proved reserves to private companies by two or three weeks. The embassy noted that bids were scheduled to launch on April 16.

StatoilHydro, a major Norwegian player in the petroleum industry, will participate in the bidding round for the Carabobo area of the Orinoco Belt, one of the world's largest natural bitumen and heavy oil accumulations. The Carabobo area itself is estimated to hold 32 billion barrels of proved reserves.

For the Carabobo Round, state-run Petroleos de Venezuela SA, or PDVSA, intends to establish three joint ventures with international companies and secure investments between $15 billion and $20 billion for each project, the Norwegian embassy said.

PDVSA unveiled that oil majors BP and Chevron were among 19 companies that paid $2 million for bidding data packages, and that 47 companies were engaged in the auction that began on Oct. 30, Bloomberg reports.

In other news, Oil Minister and PDVSA President Rafael Ramirez, who was unavailable to comment on the bidding round's postponement, said in a statement this week that the company intends to reduce its spending on oil-service contractors by 40%.

This could prove to be interesting?LifeSong. When did Jim Mermis go down to Venezuela again?Wonder if he was bidding on a project?Maybe not this one but,a contract in general..

Chavez Gives Foreign Companies in Orinoco Projects May 1 Ultimatum
  BNamericas      Friday, February 02, 2007

The foreign companies that partner Venezuelan state oil firm PDVSA in Orinoco upgrade projects have until May 1 to adapt their structures to new joint ventures in which PDVSA is to have at least 60%, President Hugo Chavez said on Thursday afternoon.
"I'm sure they will accept because we will continue to be partners, but if they do not agree, they are free to leave," Chavez said, according to state news agency ABN.

The president said a new ad hoc law may be necessary to regulate the new ventures, which currently produce some 600,000b/d of synthetic crude.
Chavez was granted special powers on Wednesday by the national assembly that allow him to rule by decree in matters he deems "strategic."

The four Orinoco projects are Ameriven, Cerro Negro, Sincor and Petrozuata. Partners include BP (NYSE: BP), ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP), Chevron (NYSE: CVX), ExxonMobil (NYSE: XOM), Total (NYSE: TOT) and Statoil (NYSE: STA).

PDVSA currently has stakes of around 40% in each of the projects.

Here's the rest of that Appleyard article, bear with me - I have a question...

I have no idea what the ISO 9002 control process IS...but if Silvetti violated it...that might give us an in...does that even make sense?

      You said:  "No!"

Just thinking that if Silvetti is held to a certain standard of operation by an industry oversight group and if he violated those standards of operation during this voyage, which he WAS hired to perform, then there might actually be real-life consequences for both him and GeoLab as a whole.

I get the angle you're working Kermit, and its a good one.  I'm just having a hard time keeping it all straight and putting dates to it.  I figure if I just keep adding it all to the timeline it'll eventually wash out.

We know Mermis was travelling to Venezuela during the Class Action period, which was approx. iirc from the IPO in April 2007 to January 28(?), 2008.  During the planning and first half of the search.
We don't know yet if he was going there before the IPO, but I imagine he may well have been.

It appears that John Silvetti's connections have benefited both Kyle Kingman and Tim Miller ... the two who sooo convinced that the December 29th ROV images reveal the remains of Natalee Holloway and ... soo convinced that something was hinky in regards to the December 30th dive.

Kyle Kingman:  On the night of the 30th (I believe this was Tim's last night on the Persistence) I approached Tim and proposed some ideas to him. I suggested that we shouldn't take the Aruban Polis divers at their word and proceed with planning a recovery of the trap. Also, I proposed the trap site may not be pristine or the Polis may have already knew about it. This statement was backed up by several comments we heard, behavior we observed, and other things. Tim told me he thought I was right but didn't know what to do about it.

Through Skøyen Station - Norway, 12-July 2008

On the 7th of July 2008, I flew from Newark to Copenhagen, Denmark. After a 7 ½ hr flight from Newark, I was relieved to land in Denmark. I think the Copenhagen airport was actually a shopping mall disguised as an airport.

<snipped>

The North Sea is a cold, volatile beast. One moment it is tranquil and picturesque, while the next it is an explosive, churning, and bone-chilling frenzy brimming with white caps. Last night, a long low-profile work vessel was operating within a mile of our vessel.

The offshore project manager, John told me that recently 18 people drowned on that same boat when it sank.

- Ulsteinvik to Cairo- 24-July
2345 hrs, Thursday July 24th – Cairo, Egypt

It’s 0200 hrs local time. Walking off the plane… “At least it’s not as hot as UAE”, I think to myself. “Please God; let my driver be waiting for me”. I was contacted about 12 hours earlier in Norway by a Dutch agent who needed me in Cairo ASAP and they were not afraid to pay a high price to get me here. All I know is there was to be a driver waiting for me. I don’t know who the client is, what the job is, what I’m doing in Egypt, or if I will even be staying in Egypt.

Kyle Kingman - 08/1/08:  Sorry for dissapearing for so long. I've been traveling quite a bit to a few places, then to Norway, and am now in Cairo for about 5 weeks. I'll be headed to Lafayette when I get done in Egypt and will be in close contact with John then. I'll provide an update when I'm able. I hope you're all well.

Although we have searched and ruled out an extensive portion of the original planned search area, a substantial portion of the high-probability area yet remains to be explored. Now, following a publicly confirmed admission that Natalee Holloway was disposed at sea, we are confident that completing the focused search area will bring closure. We therefore formally invite and request anyone who this humanitarian effort has touched to get involved and to help support the remaining search efforts. Donations are being handled by Texas Equusearch, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. Please come beside those who have already given so much to help ensure a proper funeral in Alabama for Natalee Holloway. Please make all donations marked as: "Holloway search".

Search team hopes they are close to finding missing kayaker
Bay Area Citizen
By DANA GUTHRIE
Updated: 02.24.09

On Monday, five different groups were using sonar equipment to scan the bottom of Clear Lake — League City, Nassau Bay, the Montgomery County Constable’s office and The Silvetti Group and Legacy Offshore Divers & Construction Co., both of Louisiana, Black said. Equusearch said the sonar teams and divers will work through most of Monday night.

“The winds have not let up on us to allow us to do anything much until now,” Black said Monday afternoon.

The search will continue on Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. Volunteers are needed and encouraged to visit the command center located at the Clear Lake Park boat ramp on NASA Parkway in Seabrook.

At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, the search team was joined by The Silvetti Group and Legacy arrived with divers, who began searching shortly thereafter and continued diving until about 5 a.m. Monday.

Thanks, Kermit.  They already had the Netherlands branch then.

Did Schaefer not lease back the Superior Achiever?

Krimpen Shipyard is in the Netherlands

Superior Offshore International awards Holland-based Merwede Shipyards to build the Superior Achiever,

December 20,2007, defendants revealed that the Company would be forced to sell the Superior Achiever

Disposition of Assets and Breaches of Contracts.
Sale of the Superior Achiever for approximately $70.0 million, the proceeds
