You are right!!  How would Paulus and Joran possess a conscience when they are under the impression that the established moral and legal boundaries of a civilized society do not apply to them?

Think about it.

1.  Paulus is not held accountable for abetting his underage son in activities that had an indirect connection to the demise of Natalee Holloway.

2.  Underage Joran is not held accountable for participating in activities that had a direct connection to the demise of Natalee Holloway.

3.  The establishments that allowed underage Joran to participate illegally in activities that had an indirect connect to the demise of Natalee Holloway are not held accountable.

Dana: One thing that makes my listeners scratch their heads so to speak and wonder, myself included and we'll talk about it again, is the fact of the underage drinking and gambling that had been going on admittedly by young van der Sloot.  Was there ever any discussion or has there ever been any discussion at least of filing some charges as far as that goes?

Jossy:  No, there hasn't been any of that. The authorities have just (inaudible) it aside, they haven't paid any attention to it then and they're not paying any attention to it now and over the past 26 months.   I haven't seen anything in the direction of trying to make some kind of statement that this is not (inaudiable) at least make some sort of a statement that this is not (inaubible) because it is a known fact that as an underage he wasn't supposed to be in the casino, much less in the company of his father. He was there, there are video tapes to prove that and still the authorities haven't done anything with regard to that specific case.

It takes a few moments to absorb this information.  The supposed tourist who befriended some of Natalee's classmates and who told them he was staying at their hotel lied to them.  He isn't a tourist.  He isn't staying here

In the 1930s, with the rise of Adolf Hitler, Prince Bernhard's younger brother Aschwin, publicly declared his support for the Nazi Party. Prince Bernhard himself trained as a fighter pilot then was later made an officer of the German Reiter SS Corps. The Prince eventually went to work for the German chemical company, IG Farben. Because he was a Protestant and a Royal, Bernhard was acceptable by Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands as a suitable husband for Princess Juliana. However, Bernhard's appropriateness as the consort of the future Queen would later become a matter of public debate.

Prince Bernhard's political insensitivities in the Netherlands distanced him from the Dutch people at a time when tensions were high and another war in Europe seemed almost certain. First, traveling to the Reich Chancellery, he met personally with Adolf Hitler who had publicly insinuated that the marriage of the German Prince to the future Queen of the Netherlands was a sign of an alliance between the two nations. Then, for several days leading up to his marriage to Princess Juliana on January 7, 1937, Prince Bernhard entertained SS officer Langenheim in the Dutch royal palace. The Prince provided the SS representative with an assessment of the political situation in the Netherlands and the role of the Dutch Nazi Party, all of which was reported back in detail to the German Foreign Minister, Joachim von Ribbentrop. Whether Bernhard in doing so consciously acted against Dutch interests has been a question for debate.

He died at 93 years old..
He had a daughter named Beatrix.
The Queen.

He lived a double life.. At one point fully supporting the Germans and at another point fully supporting the allies..
Historically People are confused.... When they do not need to be.. He was a switch hitter. 
Bottom line he supported the Nazi ideology and he himself was a German by birth. NOT Dutch.
That is why the still exists in the Netherlands today.

What I find particularly intriguing about your bringing this up is that it was Joran who made the "Hitler" comment. Which seemed out of place at the time, but perhaps not out of place to his thinking, the way he was brought up with parents that adhere to this or talk about it in their home to their children. Certainly, we have seen recent photos of the another child of that families following in his brother's footsteps. Very facinating Edward. Thank you for bringing it up.

Fourteen years ago it snowed in March on my daughter's wedding day.  Daughter and SIL wanted to get married in January or February.  I convinced them to wait until March to avoid the snow as guests would be travelling from out of town and from Vancouver.  Anyways ... Murphy's Law dictated.  It did not snow in January and February of 1995 ... it held off until one hour prior to the March wedding.

 

Thankfully ... the snow did not cause any problems.
