Alagary - thanks, I don't see any special locks either.  Just typical, lower cost original type door knob with a single cylindar dead bolt.
I'm trying to go back and find out for sure, but I thought the previous tenent said he put a lock of some sort high up, so it might be on the screen door, not this one.

This may be not right at all but I'm looking for the guys interview now.

No blonde moment~I remember it well, it sounded like the older type locks with a barrel on one side and a bolt that it slid into on the other.

I give up, couldn't verify my info and if nobody else remembers it, it's going directly to the  blondemoment file.

Please know mizjay that I am not arguing with you . I remember seeing something about a big deal lock too. but its not there . Somebody lied.

mizjay ... I also read an article where the previous owner discussed a lock he installed on that door. Recently, too.  Wish I remembered when it was. So you are not hallucinating. LOL

From the exterior, I see nothing that leads me to believe there is a special lock on the door, not on the screen nor the regular door:

There would be no reason to put a lock on a screen door.  You could cut the screen.
Or walk through it.  I have watched my husband pull one off the hinges with one arm and a jolt...makes a loud noise, but not safe regardless.

Maybe there was a slide bolt on the door and LE took it. From those pics we would not be able to see the screw holes . Most likely 4/6  of them no bigger than a quarter inch .

I  went to NG transcripts and all I could come up with was Rev. Smallwood talking about when he lived there but in his interview, no mention of the lock, but it may have been on JVM, it's bugging me now.  Glad to know all my wild days in the 70's aren't coming back to haunt me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, I distinctly remember either NG or JVM interviewing the pastor that used to live there and he said he had installed a lock and that the back door was very hard to open.

Also without a dead bolt you can open those doors with a credit card or just jiggling it a certain way.  I have never felt safe in a mobile home because of that.  It would not take much to get in if they wanted in bad enough.

I think maybe the wall may have been torn into because they could have been looking for either a body or someone hiding.  From the information we have been given Haleigh would not have left the house in the dark alone even if she could have opened the door.

We actually have a latch similar to this up high on a screen (storm) door that was installed before we bought our home. Yes, you could break the glass to gain entry, or cut the screen, depending on how you have the door configured at the time. But it does, and would deter or slow someone down from getting through.

I believe that screen door they have is also a storm door, meaning it has glass that slides up and down, so it is also a glass door when the glass is pulled up.

Even with a dead bolt sometimes you can a mobile home door open quietly with only a big screwdriver . My own trailer ,don't worry, locked my keys inside.

Thank-you for the pictures, certainly different inside the trailer than I thought it would be.

Mobile homes, especially double wides, can be really nice inside!
Yes, it is very nice inside, and nice carpeting, much bigger than I thought also.

A characteristic of Turner Syndrome is that the person is small in stature and not the normal size of a person of that age.  I read somewhere that she was around 3 feet tall.  If you notice the lock is at least 6 to 10 inches above the appliance and the appliance would typically be around 3 feet.  So, to me it appears the lock is 4ft at least and would be much over her head if she tried to reach up.

I think this is what the father meant when he said it was high.  It was high up for her.

Welcome, and for some reason Haleight doesn't look that much smaller to me than any other child that age.

Not sure what the standard is for a 5 year old.  My grandchildren are older now.  I was just going by the stats they had released saying she was 3 feet tall.  And comparing that to the location of the dead bolt.

One space near the top on the right side might be where a dead bolt was or it could be just a funny line

What i remember him saying was you had to push the door to get the lock to work. My back door is exactly the same way. The door is no longer sitting square because of house settling and you have to pick up on the door knob then push hard on the door to get the deadbolt to go into the right spot( hole) so the door is locked. Sorry for the run on sentence.

Not sure why we are debating this.  Does anyone really think she opened the door and went out by herself?  Why would she do that?  Maybe there is another theory I have not heard about.  Help me out here.

Island...why is Crystal having to move her tent in the last article that was recently printed on here if someone else has offered her a home to stay in...? thank goodness they offered it to her as well...that was nice...Is it near the property that she is at?

looking at the pictures of inside the mobile home, looks like they didn't have a lot, but it looks like they tried to make it a home...

Misty could have really slept through someone coming in and taking Haleigh with the bed placement as close as it was in the picture that Brandi provided? She must be a darn sound sleeper...I know that I am a really sound sleeper when hubby is home but when I am at home alone, I hear every little sound...not as relaxed I guess...
