Interesting article...

http://www.bloomu.edu/media/magazine/Bloomsburg_Winter09.pdf

Page 20

Whether searching deep waters for a vanished 18-year-old, enriching the lives of some big
cats or promoting a Class AAA baseball team, internships and cooperative assignments often take Bloomsburg University students into the realm of the unexpected. Students Jacob Lex, Erin Loughlin and Travis Behler recently participated in experiential assignments that allowed them to handle unique job responsibilities.

Jacob Lex

Jacob Lex, a junior electronics engineering technology major, found himself involved in a high-profile missing person case as part of his co-op with Alternative Positioning Solutions (APS) of Lafayette, La. The company, owned by Lex’s uncle, is a navigation, positioning
and sonar services firm with responsibility for the Gulf of Mexico and all territorial U.S. waters.

During his eight months on-site, Lex worked in Aruba searching unsuccessfully for the remains of Natalee Holloway, an Alabama teenager who disappeared in May 2005. The crew aboard the R/V Persistence—APS’s flagship boat—worked 18-hour days making sonar runs to identify all of the materials that don’t naturally appear on the seafloor, including possible human skeletal remains and pieces of clothing.  Lex was responsible for running the ship’s computer equipment. Despite long hours and intense effort, the search came up empty.

When the work in Aruba was complete, Lex’s next assignment centered on mapping the seafloor in the Gulf of Mexico. The days and weeks were long, he says, but he bonded with other members of the crew.

“Nothing is predictable when you’re out at sea, but coming together to fix things or find solutions made us closer.” Lex says. “It’s like a brotherhood.”

Following the completion of his co-op, APS offered Lex a future position as a geophysicist, which would require additional schooling beyond his Bloomsburg degree.

“I always work hard in whatever I do, but I really took advantage of my time with APS,” Lex says. “I liked the work and learned as much as I could as quickly as I could. I think this experience will pay off.”

Thanks texasmom.

Who is Jacob Lex?

Good Morning All!!

Janet

Aruba

Polynesia finally shipping

March 14, 2009, 14:25 (GMT -04:00)

ORANGE CITY - After more than a year in the port of Oranjestad to have located the ship departed Polynesia, allegedly destined for Portugal. The luxury cruise ship would sail after a public auction a new owner received. The Polynesia stranded in Aruba last year after the then owner was in financial difficulties. The surviving crew was thirty-headed after a while no fuel, food and drink to purchase. Eventually, the Red Cross to come out for water and food to the crew in advance. Later could, given the pain and effort and without a penny in his pocket, still home.

Between this and the Columbians vacationing there this is NOW a place that REALLY needs to be avoided.
The police is shaking down hotel owners if they don't use them.  They are allowing tourists to be robbed by hotels own employees.  They keep getting lower and lower.

Good morning, everyone.

Looking again at that picture.....Left pant leg looks wet to above the knee.  Right pant leg obviously torn or cut from waist to ankle.  If right pocket was gripped or caught on something, it would have most likely pulled off but not including up to the waist and down the pant leg.  Maybe it was caught on equipment on deck....Maybe it was just some horseplay....maybe not.  Don't know if its anything....just thinking.

Happy Sunday all.....

Sure appears I missed a lot last night, I have to work today so not sure I can read through all but will try. One question I have is why on earth would anyone 'trust' this CAPS character without verified proof of who and what he/she was? Was there ever any real and vivid verification of any kind?

TIA !

Texasmom,

Nice find with that Jake pdf.  Eight months experiential......shows how easy it can be for some with connections to use these ventures to their benefit while pursuing further education.

Happy Sunday, Monkeys!

Just my 2 cents on the ripped pants; That's a weird tear to be wholly accidental, IMO.

It's an even tear all the way down through the hem at the bottom, and a denim hem is pretty tough.

It almost looks like the pocket was ripped off and maybe tore the fabric underneath, so somebody just started pulling.

That was my initial thought, CBB, regarding the even cut/tear from the waist.  I just threw thoughts out there, just in case someone had another viewpoint.  If the pants had been caught up on equipment, I would think he could have removed the pants, with or without assistance.

Happy Sunday to you, too.

Yes he is.

Just more random speculation here but the same discoloration at the top of the leg can be seen to a lesser degree on the right side of the right ankle. I recognize the reddishness as under-the-skin-surface infection. I see it in my own legs from time to time because I suffer from severe edema brought on by my congestive heart failure which is, in turn, caused/made worse by my severe sleep apnea.

Not declaring definitely that's infection in that young man's leg, only that it's a possibility.

Also, when it is very bad in my leg and sometimes my legs leak water and that makes things much worse, it helps to NOT have a long pant leg on, especially sweats as they seem to make things even worse than they already are. Wearing shorts and keeping my leg "naked" truly helps the healing process.

So, if that is a painful infection or other skin condition we are seeing in that photo, the pants may have been deliberately sliced open so as to expose the leg to air and aid in making it heal faster and feel more comfortable.

A deliberately split open pant leg explains why is that guy walking around like that with a ripped pant leg. If it had been torn open by accident, he would have simply changed his pants. It seems he wants the leg to be exposed to the air.

Nut, San, Klaas, I hope you guys won't mind me posting a little help for posters who followed Natalee's case when it was in the news, and are still interested but get intimidated by the vast knowledge that has been so well collected by the regular posters on this thread. There have been numerous requests for help in Musings, and SM posters do come here to read but are reluctant to ask basic questions. As I read back this morning, it struck me that there is an overview on one page that would serve that purpose pretty well. It's not so much to be overwhelming, but a nice nutshell, IMO.

For all the posters who have wished for a synopsis of the Natalee Holloway Case and where it stands now, I think that a visit to the current thread (thread #807), page #16, just might give you what you've been looking for.

Please be sure to read to Tamikosmom's reply #308 and follow the link posted within it.

Thanks!

SECURITY WARNING TO EVERYBODY!!!

I was just checking out various websites related to Natalee Holloway and came across this one:  arubanboycott.blogspot.com and it contains a page that downloads trojans to your computer, steals passwords, and does various other vicious nasty things. I don't think the first page does it but it is one of the other pages of this blog that has all the malicious code.

My Internet Security software went crazy and refused to let that malicious page be opened by my browser (Internet Explorer).

So a blog about boycotting Aruba should be on the side of the good guys, right? So why are they trying to wreck peoples' computers and steal all their personal information?

What if it's really one of the bad guys masquerading as a good guy?

Even if this particular blog turns out to be okay and my internet security software is simply paranoid, it is still a very real possibility that the "bad guys" could set up a seemingly pro-Natalee page just for the purpose of stealing info from your computers and/or wrecking them. So make sure all your virus/security software is up to date and scan your computers from time to time and don't automatically trust websites that look like they are good guys. Be cautious.
