From the President's trip to Los Angeles today, at a town hall meeting:

I loved this. I think the LAPD should pay this kid's way to college. I believe this young man will grow up to be exactly what he wants to be. Through this whole clip, I was thinking that young man's mother must be soooooooo proud of her little boy. He will never ever forget talking to the President of the United States. I still have the letter JFK wrote to me. It's one of my most precious treasures.

Let's hope the LAPD is able to protect this young man and others so they can grow up to fulfill their dreams.  Gang violence seems to be on the upswing, and life becomes more fragile with every passing day.
