JACKSONVILLE, FL -- An amber alert is in effect this morning for a two-month-old baby.

Authorities in Hillsborough County are looking for Sandra Cruz-Francisco.

Sandra has black hair and brown eyes.

She was last seen wearing a pink shirt, pink pants and pink socks in Plant City.

Police say she may be with a 30-year-old female possibly named Janet.

The two may be traveling in a four door blue Chrysler. Authorities believe they may be headed to Miami.

If you see her you are asked to call the Plant City Police Department at 813-757-9200 .

Abducted Baby Found Safe In Neighboring County

POSTED: Tuesday, March 24, 2009
UPDATED: 3:54 pm EDT March 24, 2009

Sandra Cruz-Francisco
PLANT CITY, Fla. -- An Amber Alert for a missing 2-month-old girl infant taken from a Plant City health clinic was canceled Tuesday afternoon when a woman brought the girl to the sheriff's office in a neighboring county.

Amaila Tabata Pereira brought Sandra Cruz-Francisco to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office nearly 24 hours after investigators believe she was abducted outside of a Hillsborough County Health Department office. Officials said she was unharmed.

Plant City Police Capt. Darryl Wilson named 43-year-old Amaila Tabata Pereira as a person of interest about midday Tuesday, saying she may be the woman known as "Janet" who took the child.

Pereira also goes by the names, Alalia Rivera, Amalia Segui and Almalia Maldonao.

WFTS-TV in Tampa reports Pereira has two prior arrests in Hillsborough County under the name Amalia Segui in 2000.

Investigators said they anticipate charging Pereira with the kidnapping of Sandra Cruz-Francisco.

According to Plant City Police, the child's mother, 30-year-old Rosa Sirilio-Francisco, brought the infant to the Health Department's Plant City Office on North Michigan Avenue at about 3 pm for a check-up when she was approached by a woman known only as "Janet."

Wilson said the two had a conversation outside the building, which ended with "Janet" taking the baby.

Investigators said "Janet" claimed that immigration officials were headed to Rosa's house to take her into custody so that she could be deported, and that she would take care of her child.

Wilson said it is unclear whether the mother willingly handed over the baby or whether the woman took her by force. It does not appear that the two knew each prior to meeting on Monday.

Because she believed the woman's story, investigators say Sirilio-Francisco didn't report her daughter missing until several hours later. A state-wide Amber Alert was issued just before midnight.
