ORLANDO, Fla. -- Two sources tell WESH 2 that the friend of Casey Anthony deposed on Wednesday accepted $20,000 for her story from a tabloid.

Cruz would not comment on claims she sold her story for thousands. But an attorney for the Anthony family said her credibility as a witness is shot.

"People are coming out of the woodwork to make statements about Casey Anthony and most of it is just not true," said Brad Conway, who represents Anthony's parents, Cindy and George Anthony.

Cruz said that when she and Anthony were children, they used to bury dead pets in the same area where Caylee Anthony's remains were found. Cruz also told investigators Casey Anthony wanted to let her adopt Caylee, but was blocked by Cindy Anthony.

"It's garbage," Conway said Wednesday as Cruz was deposed by defense attorneys at the State Attorney's Office in Orlando.

.Casey Anthony's attorney Jose Baez said Cruz' decision to sell her story doesn't immediately diminish her credibility.

"It really only affects someone's credibility if they change their story," he said.

Cruz' deposition lasted just under two hours and was not open to the public. After the session ended neither she nor Baez would talk about what was said behind closed doors.

Earlier Wednesday, a judge has denied a request from Anthony's attorney to hold a private meeting without prosecutors or the public.

Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland issued his ruling on Wednesday, a day after Baez filed the motion.

Baez said the meeting was necessary to discuss "sensitive matters" that the defense saw as "critical."

From the beginning, Baez has said he has information that would explain why Anthony failed to report her daughter's disappearance for more than one month and why he believes she's not guilty of the toddler's murder.

Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of her daughter, Caylee, who was reported missing in July 2008. Caylee's body was found in woods not far from the Orange County home where she and her mother lived.

I don't believe that ... call me a black and white person (sees not much gray area) ... but I will never believe that someone who loves their children (more than themselves) could kill them unless they suffer from a debilitating mental illness. 

I agree that some families will do as the author stated and decide to support their family members but I just see the A's as people with little boundaries, limits and RESPECT for themselves and others.  I think they support KC because they are so similiar.  They probably have never lived their lives normally even before KC killed Caylee.    I've seen people react this way before.  Example, I had a client that was court ordered to seek counseling.  Her son molested her daughter.  Son had a history of killing animals and torturing them.  Son had a history w/police (he was ony 14)  Well, to make a long story short, Mom was just like her son.  She had a similar history.  Mom always had an excuse for what her son did, a lie covered another lie.  She did not want to admit (or even recognize) this as wrong because this was her "normal".

How awful about that little boy. I was just listening to the news here and there was something about a 14 year old that raped a neighbor. If I heard correctly he had just been released from juvenile because of a prior sexual assault.

As for Kio Marie ... I would believe that selling her story made her less credible ... IF she hadn't said these things prior to Caylee's remains being found in their "hangout" area.  That makes her very credible in my eyes .... Sorry Conman!

okay so depending on how you look at this, this may be the smartest or dumbest thing Baez has said yet.  ummmm, does he realize how many times Casey changed her story??...guess she's no longer credible

I'm sure my mom wanted to kill me at times, but she never did. Especially when I chased my sister down the street with a butcher knife.

JSM I think we grew up in the same family!  Yet when mom and dad came home nothing had ever happened!  I threw a cactus once my sis grabbed a knife.  Also was a pellet gun incident and a rope.

  Same family it sounds like, no cacti, ropes and we had no firearms in the house here though.

My sister called me fat one time. She was tiny (back then and I was fat), made me so mad that I took the ketchup and mustard that was on the table and squirted it all over her, the walls and her teeny cashmere sweater. My older stepsisters were staying with us and tried to clean up the mess before our parents came home. They even washed the sweater!! It shrunk the size of a baby doll's dress.
