Why would they not just come out and say we suspect a body in the bag?

Trace evidence would be lost if it was not opened properly. Coroner will open the bag.
There is no evidence that there is a body in the bag.

But if the farmer didn't even know about the missing Sandra, why would he bother to call anyone unless something raised a red flag?

Did I hear the guy say farm workers moved the bag? But it has not been touched by LE?

Good point. Wonder if there was a smell or they opened it enough to know what was in it.

Why would they not just come out and say we suspect a body in the bag?

It looks pretty small.  To me looks smaller beside people.  I think they don't want to say that in case it is wrong they would look foolish and also so as not to upset family and friends and the community.

And on a gruesome note but one we are all likely to be considering, it is possible to have body PARTS in a smaller container.  Or other evidence such as clothing or a toy, etc.

If that bagbegan floating when the water level subsided, it would actually be more likely there is decompostion in it without being too graphic. This is about the right amount of time in a water situation unfortunately.

from the presser it sounded like the farmers were told to notify authorities of anything suspicious....that's why I think they called LE.

I was blown out of the Cage ... I watched the video of the live press though

All evasive information - so that leads my Monkey brain to think .. Something is noted and found - their not releasing info yet. Because if they knew for sure " Even without touching the Bag" this has nothing to do with Sandra ..they would have not invited everyone under the sun to come out and investigate.

This is a Sad Day .. The Man interviewed http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/livenow?id=6747865
I have no clue of who he was " the chosen" spokesman - He said it himself " we have not dealt with a situation such as this before" and yet he seemed to be trying to keep his emotions under wraps. I could see his heartbeat in his face ..that to me shows that He may be a " Daddy" ... in his own life.

Speculation is Just right now,  about the findings of this " bag" container - One thing though.. you can't hide a Man's emotions ..he said it " I have never been involved with such a case like this before" ..  And from what I saw of him, he was hurting giving that interview. jmo

That's the most logical conclusion. As, Cookie mentioned earlier, there's gotta be things that turn up in these ponds, seems like the workers would always be curious, they might get lucky and find a siutcase full of money or something. Can't imagine they did't at least peek, even with an odor
