Sandra Cantu's family emerged from two days of grief-stricken seclusion today to thank the people of Tracy for comfort in their time of need, and to call for the death penalty for whoever killed the little girl they last saw skipping happily off to play with a friend.

"There's a monster out there," Sandra's grandfather, Jose Chavez, said as he faced reporters at the entrance to the mobile home park where the 8-year-old girl lived. "He's got to be apprehended; he's got to be put away."

Sandra's uncle, Joe Chavez, added: "It's against my religion, but for me - (I ask for) the death penalty."

The Chavezes - Jose lives in the same home Sandra did with her mother, and his son Joe lives in Stockton - came to the entrance of the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park with Joe's wife, Angie, at 12:30 p.m. The family had declined to speak to the media since Monday morning, when a suitcase containing Sandra's body was found in an irrigation pond two miles from her home.

Joe Chavez said Sandra's mother, Maria Chavez, and grandmother, Dolores Chavez, both had to be sedated and monitored at a hospital for several hours after they got the news Monday evening that Sandra was dead.

"When that word came in, I heard screams that I've never heard before. ... Primal screams of love and fear," he said. "It was like the worst horror movie that you could ever watch."

Angie Chavez said the family has been deeply touched by the outpouring of emotion from Tracy residents and friends, who have created a 20-yard-long memorial of balloons, stuffed animals and heartfelt notes at the entrance to the mobile home park.

"This is overwhelming, the support we're getting," she said. "It's a testament to the heart that Sandra had, and how many people's she's touched. She was an angel."

Of Sandra's mother, she said, "She's holding up the best she can. It's very difficult for her."

Jose Chavez said the family is planning public and private memorials to Sandra, but he could not give dates yet.

Police have served at least 15 search warrants this week in the neighborhood where Sandra lived and have extensively questioned and searched the homes of at least six people. They also searched a Baptist church near the mobile home park Tuesday.

"We feel a great deal of pressure," police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said. "We want to find who is responsible for this, but we don't want to rush to judgment. We don't want anyone tried in the press. We want to identify the person who is responsible for this and develop a strong enough case that they will be brought to justice."

Sandra had been missing since March 27, when she was last seen on a afternoon surveillance video skipping near her home. Hundreds of volunteers and more than 200 area law enforcement officers and FBI agents spent 10 days searching for her, and flyers with pictures of the little girl with winning smile and mild brown eyes captured hearts all over Northern California.

Investigators closely questioned Pastor Lane Lawless of the Clover Road Baptist Church this week, seized a phone and computers from his residence in the mobile home park and combed through the church for evidence all day Tuesday. But they have not named him as a suspect, and the 77-year-old Lawless said Tuesday he had nothing to do with the girl's killing.

"We are focusing on no specific person at this time," Sheneman said. "We are looking at a lot of people. Everyone that we're talking to has been cooperative."

The San Joaquin County coroner's office has finished its autopsy on Sandra's body, but results will not be released until further toxicology tests are conducted by an outside laboratory, officials said. That may take as much as a month.

Residents in rural Tracy have been on edge all week with the knowledge that whoever killed the second-grader is still on the loose. While hundreds come to cry and leave mementos at a memorial to Sandra, they also acknowledge frustration that with their grief, they also feel fear.

Set in the farm country of the San Joaquin Valley, the city of 79,000 is a mix of agricultural heritage and new commuter-oriented housing, and many felt that they were safe from the kind of abduction horrors they only read about in newspapers.

"You don't know your neighbors," said Penny Morgado, a longtime resident of the mobile home park where Sandra lived. "You only know what they want you to know."

Sandra's uncle acknowledged the fear, but said he believes the slaying should not destroy Tracy residents' faith in each other.

"One bad apple doesn't ruin a whole community, so let's just find that bad apple and pluck it," Joe Chavez said. "If you're responsible for this, turn yourself in. Man up. Or woman up."

Peter Wolthius, who also lives in mobile home park, said his 5-year-old daughter often played with Sandra. Explaining to her that her friend will never come home has been hard.

"There's no way to easily explain death to a child," he said.

With them saying that there is a child porn group operating there and they have not made any arrests yet in the porn thing, they would have to seal those also. They have alot of work to do and like Anna says, don't want to give anyone a heads up.
..
And, if the porn warrants were unsealed, lynching mob comes to my mind.

..
HLN says 100 residents or was it 100 residences, ALL of them have been questioned.

One more comment on child porn, the police have said they tagged certain movies, what if this group of perverts made their own that was untraceable by the police? Put on CD's rather then down-loadable links? They know they are being watched by police but they need their fix (sort a speak)

~Interesting~

"Officials took some items from Wohler's home, but it's unclear what they were. They also searched his martial arts studio in Tracy.

Wohler said "a couple CDs" were taken by police."

He hasn't left my radar screen. Anyone that would kiss a little girl on the lips and say he is just being nice, is just not right. Something about him just gives me the creeps. He is a single man living on his own, works with kids, has kids as friends, admits to kissing a little girl he had to only know for a few months, driving by her home several times per day according to a neighbor....He sounds obsessed with her.

New monkeys learning how to quote:  After you hit the "quote" button on the right side of your screen, you will get a box, with the post you are quoting in it.  Be sure to space down, by hitting "enter" or scroll down a few until you get past the bottom of the quote the WORD quote.  Go past [/quote]  a few returns.  That will keep you from messing up the quotes.

You can also go to the Test Area thread and practice stuff.  Here is the link:

Here are other links to similar But not court related ..
That further implicates those above and others.

What these people are involved in is far more then just looking at some pictures on a disc. in my humble opinion.

Wow interesting. I wonder if the police questioned him? Maybe they should ask why make up the story?

I read somewhere or heard on a tv interview the church members are supposed to be a more needy group or a group that may have a bit more of a past.

Nancy grace is talking about this right now.

I may be wrong.  I have been before and I will be again.

But I believe LE/FBI are all over this and know exactly what's what.  They may lack some crucial evidence and are slowly getting it.

They are being much to deliberate and methodical not to know what they are doing in this case.

Somebody's going down, IMO.  As well they should.

Anna
- I feel pretty good about them too especially after seeing them all over the church grounds.  If you watched any of the videos interviewing some of the people that live right near the church, it sounds pretty odd.  The woman accross the street said there were maybe 15 members of the church.  Something isn't right about the church.

There sure does seem something isn't right with that church, if I were driving by I would think it was an abandoned church.

Right. My bigger concern is why make the statement in the first place?
LE was enroute to the pastors home and then church immediately thereafter after opening that suitcase, not checking reports of missing luggage.

I am of the opinion that either a conscientious family member, OR perhaps a person that knew Lawless previously tipped them off first.

It is obvious that after opening the luggage, there was a reason to go to Lawless's home and then the church. I am having a hard time thinking this man did this, because of his age, which seems naive of me, but when he was in the car with his wife, he appeared to me to be on the frail side, but that could have been an act I suppose. I'm just not sure on this, does anyone know if Wohler, Sinclair or Slaytor go to this church?

What bugs me was this rummage sale planned or was this some bizarre unplanned rummage sale.
