Over 500 leads now.

One thing that I did not know.

They have been searching the landfill all week.  They are searching all the garbage that is being brought in.

Also, the FBI is giving them plenty of resources, behavior analysts, computers, etc.

The father is in town and he has been at the police dept a couple times today on his own accord asking questions.  His home in Mexico has not been searched.
Thank-you, I had heard they were searching the landfill, but I didn't realize they were doing this all week.

Nobody ruled out.  They're still throwing out there about the running away.  They said they are just leaving all avenues open because they haven't ruled anything out.  They keep having to reprint the fliers because so many have gone out.
Interesting, thanks.

The 4th vehicle wasn't "added"  but was a part of the original search warrant.

That's all I can remember.  I think the rest was pretty repetitive, stuff we already knew.

Oh, they are going to revisit "the kiss"  when this is all said and done.  It was reported back when.  They don't know what happened or why nothing was done.  They aren't going to dive into it right at this moment because all resources are trying to bring Sandra home.

The police chief now is not the same one as when the kiss happened, so that's why they are not sure why nothing was done about it.

They " The Police" Have to know the circumstances behind that kiss on the lips..
I know when I was very young it was not uncommon for the kids to give family members a kiss before going to bed..
Times have changed...
Apparently this fellow was not even a family friend.. But how exactly that happened at a public pool is the question, was that in front of her parents ?

I can't imagine that in this day and age..

I know this is far more common and excepted in Europe. This aint Europe.

And he continues to work with children!    I read somewhere that people are pulling their kids from his place of business though.

Tracy Police 'Leaving The Whole Book Open'
Sandra Cantu, 8, Missing From Mobile Home Park
POSTED: 4:00 pm PDT April 1, 2009
UPDATED: 4:52 pm PDT April 1, 2009

TRACY, Calif. -- Nearly five days after a girl disappeared from a Tracy mobile home park, police said their investigation remains "very broad" and they're "keeping tabs on everybody" in the case.

Sandra Cantu, 8, was last seen Friday afternoon walking in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park.

Investigators have gotten more than 500 tips on her disappearance, still considered a missing persons case.

Lt. Jeremy Watney, spokesman for the Tracy Police Department, said authorities are also allowing for the possibility of foul play.

"Eight years old, granted, is a very young age," he said. Watney, however, added police have found "nothing to indicate there's a reason why she would leave."

"We're leaving the whole book open," he said.

Cantu's father, Daniel, visited police Wednesday to check on the progress of the search, Watney said.

The spokesman originally said during a media update Wednesday morning that investigators did not know Daniel Cantu's whereabouts; he later told reporters he was unaware Daniel Cantu had been dropped off at the police station.

"It was nothing that we asked him to do," Watney told reporters Wednesday afternoon. "He's done this quite frequently" to check on the case.

Cantu, a student at Jacobson Elementary School, was last seen walking from her home to a friend's home within the mobile home park, located just off West Clover Road.

Anyone with information should call the Tracy Police Department at 209-831-4550. Investigators said anyone wishing to donate money for the reward fund may call police.

She's 4 feet tall, weighs 45 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Cantu was wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings.

Volunteers have been going through trash at a local landfill, but police "have nothing to point that we're going to find anything," Watney said.

Authorities have searched five properties in Tracy -- including four mobile homes in the park -- as well as a location in Oakdale.

Three cars were seized in the investigation, police said.

A surveillance camera outside Cantu's home captured the last images of her, but Watney said police weren't releasing that footage because "there is evidentiary value in the video."

i'm on the fence with this creep-o.   at first I thought for sure he has knowledge of where Sandra is but now i'm not so sure.  I think if LE found something to connect him to her, they wouldn't be putting the inappropriate *kiss* on the back-burner....they would be trying to nail him to the wall with whatever they could...and this certainly would be where they could start.  I just dont know...

I don't get the feeling that this guy is involved...I think that he had really really bad judgment in kissing her on the mouth..I mean, what was he thinking? He did say that she would come to his house a lot and ask if he needed help with yard work and stuff like that...why did the family allow it if they felt he was a threat or dangerous for her to be around him?
I got the feeling that he had affection for her, not in a creepy way, maybe a grand fatherly way?  sensed that she was perhaps a lonely little child that wanted attention, perhaps felt a bit sorry for her?  I don't know...I know that he was very inappropriate and I think that he realized it...It seemed that he was open to the police investigating him as much as they needed to....

Leroy...thanks! I was hesitant to post it cause I don't want anyone to think that I condone it in any way what he did...just that it might have been an impulse thing and a quick peck on the lips, not appropriate by any means! but I don't  think that it was a romantic kiss in front of  so many people in such a public place..it would seem that the weirdos are sneakier than that? dunno...

First full 8 minutes of the news was all about Sandra.

One girl, 16, was kidnapped in Vallejo when she was 8.  She escaped on her 3rd day.  So she was trying to give the family hope.

Nothing new as far as news.  The father was on camera.  They asked him point blank if he has her in Mexico.  When asked how his relationship is with her, he said, I haven't seen her in a year.  I took it to mean that the relationship wasn't too good, not like he'd be trying to cart her off to Mexico.

People are griping about the Amber alert situation.  And they said that this is the first time Tracy has had a missing child.  If they made mistakes, they will correct them in the future.  A woman was interviewed and said, how about a Sandra law.  If you know what they were wearing, where they were last seen, if they are under 12, there should be an alert.

I agree that there should be some sort of an alert no matter what!

the family friend, spokesperson today on the news said that in the 6 years that she has known the family that she has not known the father to have seen Sandra in all that time..that would have made her 2 when he last saw her....(?)  sad

My dear Monkey Friends-

No mas, you know I lub ya. Here's the danger in making any rationalization or justification for a grown man kissing a child on the lips that is not a non-perv relative.
A REAL LIFE PERV will use whatever you say as rationalization and justification for their behavior. I am not saying this to make anyone wrong in any way. I am saying this because there has to be a 0% tolerance policy on this issue, in any situation.

Two months ago I interviewed Ken Lanning, a 35 year veteran of the FBI, most consider the John Douglas of behavioral profiling of pedophilia and helped structure child porn laws for what they are today. I was so profoundly affected by it I have not and may never write on it. I felt it was so insightful that it would actually help pedos hone their craft. It haunts me to this day. Most do not know how prolific this illness is and how broadly it runs the perp spectrum.
I know I wish I did not after the fact, I am still having nightmares. I say that with complete respect for Mr. Lanning, who is an absolute subject matter expert (sme) and dedictaed pioneer in his profession. Not a pleasant subject.
