Deputies: Bradenton Man Raped 12-Year-Old Girl

A Bradenton man gave a 12-year-old girl whiskey, watched pornographic movies with her and raped her, Manatee County deputies say.

Kenneth R. Ross, 46, of 3600 Lake Bayshore Drive, was arrested Sunday on charges including lewd and lascivious battery, giving alcohol to a minor and exposing a minor to harmful motion pictures.

Relatives had feared the worst after the girl went missing after leaving home Saturday following an argument with her grandmother.

An Amber Alert was issued.

About 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the girl called her family and said she was at a Sarasota mall but didn't name the mall or say exactly where she was.

The girl's grandmother declined to comment today. She and her granddaughter are not being identified because of the nature of the crime.

The girl ran out of her house in west Bradenton on Saturday morning wearing a gray sports bra and denim shorts. The 5-foot-3 sixth-grader was so upset that she didn't stop to put on her shoes.

About 10:30 a.m., witnesses saw her get into a newer model red Jeep Cherokee with Florida tags, according to the sheriff's office.

On Sunday, Ross told the girl "not to tell anyone what had happened then he dropped her off by her house so then she walked home," an arrest report states.

Deputies say the girl didn't know Ross, who took her to several places including his home, the mall and a store so she could get shoes, sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow said.

On Sunday, investigators drove the girl to the area where she believed Ross' home was and she identified his Jeep, Bristow said.

Investigators conducted surveillance on Ross' home. Deputies said Ross came outside with several DVDs in his hands and told them he was planning to throw out pornography.

He later told deputies he had sex with the girl, an arrest report states.

BRADENTON, Fla. -- A Florida man has been charged with multiple sex crimes in connection with the case of a 12-year-old girl whose disappearance sparked an statewide Amber Alert on Sunday.

The girl ran away from her family's Tampa Bay home Saturday after getting into an argument with her grandmother. Witnesses saw her get into a red Jeep driven by a middle-aged man who pulled over.

The child told authorities that Kenneth R. Ross took her back to his residence, gave her whiskey, watched pornographic movies and had sex with her. She was dropped off near her home Sunday afternoon.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office said the 46-year-old admitted to the crimes.

Yes, that is true- at least he didn't kill her. I have to wonder, though, if the next time he will kill the child. And we know there is always a next time with these monsters...sigh...

I don't think that there should ever be a next time for these freaks...I have always said, ship them all to Alcatraz and if they can grow their own food to survive, well then they can all stay there and entertain each other instead of preying on our children...If they can't survive at Alcatraz, oh well......too bad  so sad....

I agree completely! No probation, no parole- one conviction and they should be kept locked up for the rest of their lives. When it comes to rape, molestation, and murder of children there should be no second chances. It's just do depressing following all these horrendous cases, breaks my heart. And there have been so many lately in FL.

Thank God Sarah was found Alive. Safe hmm don't know what that term means any more.

Seems he had enough Money to buy Porn, Booze, Shoes and Gas to troll around looking for a innocent little 12 yr old girl.

I am sure that Sarah is not his first victim. He seemed pretty comfortable in " taking" her. A distraught 12 year old female, wearing no shoes, walking alone ... perfect he thought. I don't understand the concept of men wanting to have sex with little kids. Its just beyond my comprehension. I am sure it was beyond Sarah's comprehension too, that this man being so " nice" was going to do what he did to her too.

Ah just fore go the waste of tax dollars. Just take these guys, Put Ross first and line " Start a new trend" - Use a permanent magic Marker and write on his forehead " I raped a Child" and throw them into General Population in that States Prison and ... All Done. Let him scream like a little girl.
