I did what was posted here to do, and I'm so hoping it will protect my PC!

Klaas? Norton and the Windows update should do it, right???

Yes.  Want to hear something funny?  I have 2 PC's and 1 laptop.  I was over helping my neighbors with their computer tonight, unrelated to the virus issue.  I did mention to them they needed virus protection but they poo poo'd it.

Anyway, this PC is fine I made sure I was up to date on everything yesterday but I totally forgot about my other 2, LOLOL.  so I've been updating for the last hour..ha ha.

Yes, actually windows update should be enough but the virus protection is always important as well.

Question...............  why won't the updates be effective if you're downloading them from Firefox?

Marymary - yes, FireFox and IE and any other browser is fine.  The browser you use will have nothing to do with the virus.  You'll be fine, I'm sure!

OK, let me go read about the FireFox issue.  I didn't know about it but IF you have updated everything you should be able to use FireFox or any browser after and be fine.

PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE!!!!!  Run http://www.malwarebytes.org/ - there is a free scan.  It will take care of any malware issues!!!!  This virus (conficker) is the same thing that hit my computer on Valentine's day!!!!  Microsoft still don't have a fix for it!!!  But, had I ran and updated malware bytes - I would have been fine.  This is per Microsoft also!!!!!

MM? Please look at the cave in as part of the process of quitting. When the pack is gone, just be prepared with patches or gum or whatever you are using and determine to not buy anymore.

I'm rather MOTIVATED at the moment to quit, but I have a few packs left, and I'm going to have to get rid of them before I'll be successful.

INFO RE: PROTECTING YOUR COMPUTER FROM UPCOMING VIRUS -----

1) Open your virus protection program and use its 'Updates' feature to update
your virus definitions

2) Once you've updated your virus definitions, please run a virus scan on your
computer

3) Once you've run a virus scan, please update Windows, by doing the following:

a) Open Internet Explorer (it MUST be Internet Explorer; Firefox and other browsers
will not work)

b) Pull down the 'Tools' menu and chose 'Windows Updates'. This will open the
Windows updates web page

c) Click on the 'Express' button; a list of one or more updates will probably
appear (if it says there are no updates, you're covered)
d) Download any updates that appear in the list of updates. There is a button
at the top of the list that says
'Install Updates'. Click this button to install all of the updates listed.

Why am I asking you to do this?

Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 1, 2009, a computer worm called “Conficker C” is
due to be released by computer hackers.  This malicious program is thought to
have infected between 5 million and 10 million computers worldwide already.
“Conflicker C” imbeds itself deep in the computer where it is difficult to track.
The program stops Windows from conducting automatic updates that could prevent
the malware from causing damage.

What will happen on April 1 is uncertain.  If “Conflicker C” is released, the
worm could, conceivably, delete all of the files on a personal computer, use
zombie PCs (those controlled by a master) to overwhelm and shut down Web sites
or monitor a person’s keyboard strokes to collect private information like passwords
or bank account information.  More likely though, experts say, that the virus
may try to get computer users to buy fake software or spend money on other phony
products.

One quick way to see if your computer has been infected is to see if you're
receiving automatic updates from Windows. If so, your computer is likely to
be fine. The procedure in step (3), above, should address this issue.

Klaas? Ths is where I was getting that from......................... you know I don't know any of this stuff independently!!

So I should do this now. Do I have to close my windows first?
