WELCOME JessStar your post was very informative.   Yes, many crimes have been commited because of jealousy, but I'm really wondering and thinking what would a 28 year old woman be jealous of a 8 year old? I also thought that maybe Sandra said or did something to Melissa's child, that set Melissa off, or even that Sandra said something to Melissa that set her off. But I keep coming back to my original thoughts about child porn and a connection to that church.

no rose colored glasses , good morning and Happy Easter!

Could you be jealous of an 8 year old? of course not. Could a woman with mental issues? maybe! I'm not saying she is mentally devoid of all things normal. She was deemed fit for trial and maybe her issues are not issues that keep a person from function in everyday life. She's not walking around Walmart in a bath robe mumbling to herself.

But she could be like a lot of people out there - just has problems and something set her off.

I don't discount a woman could be used to procure children for child-porn. That would just irrational. Of course that's a way to lure children in. Find someone children trust and use that association.

I hate to even write this.  I have never seen kiddie porn before and I never want  to.  But, couldn't she have been drugged, picutres taken of her, and then reclothed?  The reason I am thinking this is because of the bed at the church.  I hope I don't offend any of my monkey friends.  I am just trying to wrap my mind around the why this happened.  Maybe too much drugs and didn't wake up...I believe others are involved.
Has anyone heard of a camera being found?

God bess little Sandra and her family.  My heart is very heavy.

That is what I feel has been going on, and that is why I'm questioning where is Melissa's daughter, and has she been checked out by doctors.

Hi, No Rose,
You know, I have really never thought much about her own daughter being harmed, but i think you may be right about this.  Wouldn't the LE have questioned the grandparents now about the where abouts of her?  I think the grandparents know more than they are telling, jmo only.  Something just doesn't sit right with me about them...I hope I am wrong.  However, LE isn't giving out a lot if info so hopefully we will find out something soon

Just want to say "Happy Easter" to you.

I really like reading your posts.  I can't express myself as well as you and all the other great monkeys, but I'm so glad to be a monkey.  You guys are the best. Smile

I do feel terrible for Melissa's daughter. And I have not heard anything about the little girl's father. I'm sure he must have been mentioned somewhere - I just didn't see it apparently.

But this is a terrible start for this little girl.

God Bless her too. She's a victim also.

this is a snippet from an article that I read this morning on the yahoo home page...sorry, not good at links and didn't want to copy the whole article....

"It's very unusual for women to be involved in an abduction and murder of a child," said Candice DeLong, a retired FBI profiler based in San Francisco. "Sometimes we see this when the woman is working with a male partner. It does not appear to be the case this time. But this was not a sexually motivated crime."

this is a relief to me...at least she did not have to suffer through anything like that ....

but still...WHY???

I agree Cookie.  I don't think Sandra suffered.  I think she was OD'd, and simply feel asleep.  Thank God for that.

Just by looking at her mug shot, I'm going to guess she has an issue with drugs, and will be curious if we find that out. And who knows, she could have been jealous of Sandra, she could have been angry at her also. Happy Easter to you and your family.

I feel the same way after I saw the pastor and his wife. Actually the wife bothered me more so then the pastor, there was a look in the pastor's wife's eyes that upset me. I'm just wondering where this little girl is.

I have been so curious about the CSI being on the roof of the church, I was looking around on another forum and came across this interesting tid bit.  LE could have been looking for a receiver on top of the roof, hidden in the shingles. It could be as small as a microchip but probably the size of a cell phone.

What would happen is that as the photos are taken they are picked up by the receiver and then loaded directly onto the internet by someone else who receives them from that receiver.

Rob, I was thinking the same thing about this little 5 yr old...How awful for this child...how does one explain this to her?

I read in a recent article that the community was very surprised about the arrest.  However, they said that one thing that was very weird about MH was that she never let her child go to a friend's house.  She always insisted that the friends come to her house.  They also described her as being reserved and not very engaged with others, although she would talk & associate if others approached her.  In the same article, MH was described as being very engaged with children, having been elected mother of the year or something like that of her child's preschool class.

I think MH is a sociopath. It is not unusual for sociopaths of this type to get a rise out of drugging others for no other reason than getting a rush out of it.  They continue doing it, becoming sensitized to it, to the point of constantly pushing the envelope a little further every time until something like this happens.  Jealousy can also be a major motive.  I read on a recent post (the same one above, I'll try to find it if you want to read it) that the reason why MH didn't let her child go to other children's homes is that her daughter was exceedingly thin and always sick.  This fits the sociopath puzzle as, if it's true that MH used benzos to drug the first child, she may have been using them on her own daughter, which would explain her physical appearance. It would explain a jealousy motive.  Perhaps her grandparents fell all over Sandra and she just got tired of hearing it.  Finally, one news report has come out and said someone close to the investigation leaked that MH admitted the murder was deliberate which is more consistent with a sociopath type theory than a more sinister theory.

I still don't think there's anything more sinister here.  But this child has touched me so personally, that perhaps I'm being naive and simply don't want to believe it.

Take a look at this site:  http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_know_if_someone_is_a_sociopath

Significantly, A sociopath gets great gratification in the act of hurting someone for absolutely no reason. The behavior of a sociopath is so close to normal it is extremely hard to diagnose. The violence in many cases is the result of sub-concious decisions that might lead to
murdering or assaulting someone for no reason.

That is very interesting. I read on another forum that Melissa hardly ever let her child out to play, and that Sandra was the only one the child played with. I did not read about the appearance of the five year old. Now if this is true, why didn't the pastor and his wife intervene here, they did live with them, which is very puzzeling. And if the grandparents were making a fuss over Sandra all the time, there could be the jealousy, maybe the five year old wasn't as pretty or charming as Sandra. And if it was deliberate, she very well could be a sociopath.

Hmmm, interesting information.  That would be VERY disturbing.  From what I remember reading, none of the news media reported seeing them collecting anything from the roof or removing shingles, which I suppose is good news.  I think they would have seen that and reported on it.  But it does beg the question of whether MH was involved in something much bigger.

I read that MH reportedly filed for bankruptcy after a $10K judgment was entered against her by a local hospital for unpaid medical bills. I'm going try to hunt down information on that.

I'm very curious about her activities over the years, here in So Ca as well. Maybe some of the people she was associated with will start talking about interactions they had with her.

Suspect in Tracy slaying is churchgoing mom

Kevin Faganand Jaxon Van Derbeken, Chronicle Staff Writers

Sunday, April 12, 2009

(04-12) 04:00 PDT Tracy --

She was a loving mother to her ailing child, she taught Bible study at her grandfather's church, and her 5-year-old daughter played a lot with 8-year-old Sandra Cantu and other kids on the block.

Until Saturday, that was the main impression neighbors and family had of 28-year-old Melissa Huckaby.

What they apparently never suspected was that the brown-haired single mother with the quiet smile might kill an 8-year-old girl, then stuff the body in a suitcase and hide it in a pond - but that's just what Tracy police say Huckaby did.

"She must have had a double life, because she seemed sweet and the Bible study kids love her," said Carlos Martinez, who lives in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park near Huckaby. "This is a total shock."

Huckaby's relatives said they were bewildered at the concept that the churchgoing woman they've seen get down on her knees to play with children and lead them in singing religious songs such as "Deep and Wide" would do what police say she has.

"I've never seen her truly scold her daughter," said Cynthia Browning of Manteca (San Joaquin County), Huckaby's great-aunt. "She is soft-spoken. I trust my grandchildren with her. I don't believe she could do this."

Huckaby lives with her grandparents because she suffers from severe allergies and wanted relatives' help to be able to have more time "to take better care of her daughter, who is super-thin and gets sick a lot," Browning said. She was named "class mother" of her daughter's preschool, friends said.

Along the way, however, Huckaby has had legal problems.

She was convicted in 2006 in Los Angeles County of property theft, and was due in court Friday to be sentenced for a local January felony burglary conviction, according to court records. In 2002, the Sutter Tracy Community Hospital won a $10,000 civil judgment against her for owed bills; she declared bankruptcy the next year.

"She is a good churchgoing girl, but she has had her challenges," said her great-aunt.

Neighbors said the only thing that struck them as odd about Huckaby was that instead of sending her child over to other kids' houses to play, she always insisted on playmates coming to her house. Huckaby wasn't overly chummy with everyone on the street, they said, but always cordial when approached.

The house, neighbors said, is a neat, inviting place where Huckaby and her daughter live with her grandparents, 77-year-old Lane Lawless - pastor of the nearby Clover Road Baptist Church, where Huckaby teaches - and Connie Lawless, a former elected member of the local Republican Central Committee. In this trim park of beige-toned mobile homes, nothing stuck out as unusual about the place. The family - including her parents, who live in Southern California and sing in their church choirs - is respected.

"Look, her grandfather is a preacher; there are some good influences in that family," said Dwight Porsche of Tracy. "This makes no sense at all. I mean, who would do that to a baby?"

Huckaby's only occupation was the Bible study job, relatives said. The Baptist church has a small membership, and Sandra's family said they were not involved with the church.

After Sandra disappeared March 27, Huckaby attended a community vigil to offer condolences, but evidently was not heavily involved in the 10-day search effort. After the girl's body was discovered Monday, she spent several days at the Tracy hospital in intensive care for various ailments, her great-aunt said.

"This just makes no sense at all," said neighbor Maria Ramirez, shaking her head sadly. "I'm so surprised. Such nice people, such bad things to happen."

RWB wrote on Sunday, Apr 12 at 09:01 AM »Sorry to the poster EMMABELLA that she did not graduate from WHS, and went to Brea....but I went to West 1996 class, and SHE IS IN MY YEARBOOK, as a SOPHMORE when I was a Freshman, so there! I know someone at the hospital, they told me she swallowed a razor blade and tried to kill herself, causing the internal bleeding (told y'all it had to be caused from something traumatic), AND that she did this on Monday, the day the body was discovered. Also, you all who keep calling her a sunday school teacher, this is total BS. They dont even hold services at that ghetto church, and there is no sunday school. There only is like 15 parishoners, and they all look like meth heads. Also, I grew up in the delta area north of town. This "pond" everyone keeps referring to, it is NOT A POND. Google earth it, is just off Whitehall road, which is just off Tracy Blvd. For those of you who know this road, its where Tracy Blvd makes its first of two sharp curves (where the 35 mph sign has flashing lights). This "pond" is a hole that collectings all the runoff from the diary. Its a CRAP POND people. All the waste from washing down the stalls and cows themselves goes into that pond. It does NOT run into the river, and it does NOT get used for irragation. I was out there on Monday, and saw the police presence when they found the suitcase. They maintained all day that they did not know what was in the case. BS. The workers took the time to pull the case over to the bank......of course they opened it....if they werent going to, why pull it to the side? I am sure that they looked in, thats why there was such a police presence, thats why the coroner was there. THe county coroner does not appear on scene without a body, and certainly does not wait around for hours, as he did in this case. I think either she drugged her (thats why we keep hearing the toxicology is pending) or she accidently killed her, struck her, ran her over etc. But if that was so, she technically didn't "kidnapp" her, and they charged that. I think she then put her in the suitcase, and stored the suitcase either under the church in the crawlspace, of in that shed (the police were very interested in those two areas) before it was dumped. What is stumping me is how she got that 50 pound suitcase into the "pond", reportedly in the center of the pond......I think that would take more than one person to do. I have heard she confeesed it all, and "provided details of the kidnapping and murder". Also, if you notice, she is charged "in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Sandra Cantu", which CAN mean there is someone else....she could have just been the one to dump the body. That wording, "in connection with" can have important meaning

This is making me wonder if there is Munchausen's (sp) by Proxy, and MH possibly decided to carry it out on another child??????  That is, if it is not connected to child porn.

This is making me wonder if there is Munchausen's (sp) by Proxy, and MH possibly decided to carry it out on another child??????  That is, if it is not connected to child porn.

That is a very good point, particularly with her own daughter sick a lot. It does make sense, and should certainly be looked into by the authorities.

Interesting article.  I can't believe that she would swallow a razor blade however, and be out of the hospital talking with in 3 or 4 days.  That part makes no sense to me.

Does the part 'in connection with' really have another meaning?  I gathered it was just saying she was charged with the crime of kidnapping and murder in connection to the disappearance of Sandra Cantu/  Does anyone know?

That is the third time I have read that about the "pond".  Just sickens my stomach.

OK, everyone is hunting Easter Eggs or at Church, and I am talking to myself.    Happy Easter everyone!

Yes, that article was very interesting, I have never heard of someone swallowing a razor blade  On another forum they are saying she took a relative's blood thinning pills, so who knows? And I thought she did go to Brea High School.
