Newswise — National child crime expert David Finkelhor, director of the University of New Hampshire Crimes against Children Research Center and professor of sociology, is available to discuss the alleged sexual assault and murder of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu of Tracy, California.

Sunday school teacher Melissa Huckaby, 28, has been charged with the girl’s murder. Media reports indicate that police may charge Huckaby with molestation and sexual assault.

“This crime is not characteristic of female homicides or of female-perpetrated sexual assaults. Female perpetrated homicides against children are primarily mothers who are depressed, overwhelmed, dealing with child custody issues or severe mental health problems. Female-perpetrated sex crimes are more often against teens or committed in tandem with a male perpetrator,” Finkelhor said.

“There is little in the available information on Melissa Huckaby that suggests an explanation. Survivors of sexual abuse under severe stress circumstances and in unusual cases sometimes re-enact elements of their own abuse histories in a primitive effort to try to master the traumatic feelings, but this is totally speculative. Severe delusional psychiatric problems can also not be ruled out,” he said.

Thanks for the WARM welcome -- I am glad to finally have folks to bounce thoughts off of

Could MH have been the one who left the letter supposedly from Sandra to her killer at the memorial site for Sandra ?

No. A guy in a white pick up truck with a gray fender dropped it off at 4 AM, they showed video of it. I have to wonder considering a Sunday School teacher committed this crime if he knew it was someone with a religious upbringing and was trying to draw them out ( think Murt here  )OR it was a silent signal for her to confess to the crime, thereby protecting others.
I'm probably wrong but I believe Fred Williams dropped that note off at the memorial site.

Do you think she started talking to reporters about the suitcase and the note because she wanted Sandra to be found? Was she feeling some sort of remorse?

Yes, I do believe I read that.

Was he doing this to alleviate some of her guilt for her involvement?  Did someone else put him up to it for her sake?

Just thinking out loud.

In regards to the cadet who saw the truck facing the wrong way on the side of the road by the "pond", which side did he see, the driver's side or the passenger side?

Flossy - I couldn't tell for sure if it was a Silverado.  I did look at some Silverados and it could be but I'm not a car/truck expert.

My husband and I are going back and forth about whether it is a Dodge Ram or a Chevy Silverado, partly because of the messed up front fender.

If the fender was white, it would be easier to tell.

Okay, my husband drives a Silverado, his best friend drives a Dodge Ram.  The way that fender is, it really does look like it could be either one.  Because of that, I wonder if the cadet called it a Silverado and what he saw was, in fact, a Dodge Ram?

The only thing that makes us think it's a Dodge Ram is the black panel running vertically down the rear of the driver's window - not the window of the extra cab.

Theres wording on the side...it seems long I say Silverado over Ram...and YES it does look like Williams.... the plot thickens!

Catbert - Fred Williams is #1 on my list of accomplices.  Why would he tell the story about the luggage and a rummage sale?  Why would he drop off the letter at the memorial?  He has keys to the church.

I agree the length of the word would lead me to go with Silverado

My husband is saying the same thing, keeps going back and forth between Dodge and Silverado, he has finally decided he thinks it is a Silverado. He said the same thing about the fender, wants me to photoshop it white!

I think it says what it is on the body of the truck on the driver side door. Can we zoom?
