Glad to be here.
I've seen a lot of talk about a park.  What's that about?  Does anyone think she walked to the Church (Sorry I don't like calling it that if it's a crime scene.) Anyway, she did ask her mom about seeing a movie, and Church that night she vanished.  Right?  I dunno for sure.
I pray for an arrest or arrests TODAY!!
That may ease her family somewhat.  I feel so sorry for her family, just can't imagine what Hell they are going through. GOD BLESS THEM!!

KPIX also reports that Huckaby was recently convicted for petty theft in San Joaquin County. According to court records, the judge ordered her to be examined by physicians after Huckaby claimed she was not mentally competent to stand trial. It was determined that she was competent and she pleaded guilty.

Huckaby was also convicted in November of 2006 for petty theft at the Bellflower Superior Court in Los Angeles County.

That explains why she had to check in with mental health.

Quote
Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Friday, about five hours after she drove herself to the local police station at the request of officers, said police Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

"She gave enough information to us during the course of the interview that probable cause was there to arrest her," said Sheneman. No other arrests were made.

drove herself in and GAVE information - sounds like she confessed. just my opinion.

Good morning Klaas.  Nice watermark, btw

I wonder if there was some help or cover-up from others in this case?

I believe they are going to be arresting alot more.

Melissa Huckaby Arrested for Suspicion of Kidnapping and Murder of 8 Year Old Sandra Cantu

http://scaredmonkeys.com/2009/04/11/melissa-huckaby-arrested-for-suspicion-of-kidnapping-and-murder-of-8-year-old-sandra-cantu/

This case just gets more bizarre. According to the video in article Melissa Huckaby made several statements to media that could have differed in what she told police.

What is odd is the fact she has been previously questioned for the drugging of another girl. Is this the last arrest in this case? I wonder.

In the past when Dana Pretzer has interviewed Wendy Murphy, child victims advocate, she talks of the drugging of children for child porn purposes. One just wonders.

What could possibly be the motive for Huckaby to kill Sandru Cantu?
Good Morning, I woke up and saw this on my local news here in Ca. I would like to know if she was questioned for the drugging of another little girl, where did that investigation go? Also, I am very concerned about Melissa's five year old daughter, God knows what she may have gone through. I'm having a hard time with this being done by a woman, I realize women can be just as evil as men, but for me right now it seems pieces of the puzzel are missing. I'm wondering if she lured Sandra, and perhaps that other child, drugged them, and others involved with perhaps child porn? If not, I'm wondering if Melissa snapped and killed Sandra, for say revenge or hatred or some other reason. When I saw her mug shot this morning, she looks like a druggie, and looks to have some mental issues.

I do, too.  I can't believe they haven't already.  I'll be very shocked if this only involved her.  Still waiting to hear more and about why they seem so certain that she was killed almost immediately after being kidnapped.

Now, I just have to say WOOOOOHOOOOO!!  I'm glad they've got someone behind bars and I'm impressed with how they've handled things.

Still praying for Sandra's family.  I always think of the letdown there has to be once someone is arrested - even after they are convicted.  Once that's out of the way and they don't have that to focus on, the cold, hard truth hits - that it's not going to bring their loved one back.  I just cannot imagine.

The AP also reports Huckaby was scheduled to appear in court on April 17 to check in with a county mental health program as part of a three-year probation sentence for a petty theft charge to which she pleaded no contest.

How in the world was she a Sunday school teacher

And is it common for someone to be part of a "mental health program" for a petty theft charge?
Thanks Leroy for that, I can't imagine you would be part of a mental health program for petty theft. But Melissa does not look all there to me, whether it's drugs or whatever.

That's how I took it, too.  The Today show made it sound like she balked, but eventually confessed.

What are the "far reaching implications"?

When you consider the "persons of interest" who were connected to Melissa ... connected to Clover Baptist Church ...

When you consider reporters questions at the press conference yesterday regarding an incident involving Melissa and the drugging of a child.

Arrest Made In Calif. Girl's Kidnapping, Murder

TRACY, Calif. (CBS) ― Police in the Northern California city of Tracy arrested Melissa Huckaby early Saturday for suspicion of kidnapping and murder in the death of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, CBS station KPIX-TV in San Francisco reported and police confirmed

The 28-year-old Huckaby is a Sunday school teacher and the granddaughter of the pastor of Clover Road Baptist Church, which was searched by authorities for a second time Friday.

Huckaby's arrest came after she was questioned by police detectives for several hours on Friday night. She had sent a text message telling KPIX that she was on the way to meet with police detectives.

At 2:25 a.m. Pacific time, police drove Huckaby out of their headquarters in an unmarked car, headed for the San Joaquin County Jail, where she was booked on charges of kidnapping and murder.

She was being held without bail, with a court arraignment set for Tuesday, according to the county sheriff's office.

"We have information that by the time (Sandra Cantu) was reported missing to us, she had already been murdered," said Police Chief Janet Thiessen.

However, Thiessen would not elaborate on the cause of Sandra's death nor the motive in the case.

"This is a terrible terbible tragedy," Thiessen added. "An act against a child that has wide-reaching implications."

A massive search for the missing child had included hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials. Pictures of the girl with dark brown eyes and light brown hair were posted all over Tracy, a city of 78,000 in the Central Valley.

The search ended April 6 when farmworkers who were draining the irrigation pond to water fields found a suitcase containing Sandra's body.

The slain girl's aunt, Angie Chavez, said Saturday that she was happy to learn of the arrest.

"I want to know why she did it, if she did it," Chavez said.

In a phone interview on Friday, Huckaby had told KPIX that Sandra visited her home March 27, the day she disappeared, to play with her 5-year-old daughter. Huckaby also said she had left a suitcase in the driveway that day, and that it was missing.

Huckaby is the granddaughter of Pastor Clifford Lawless, whose church was the subject of police searches on Tuesday and Friday in connection with the investigation into the girl's death.

In talking with KPIX, Huckaby had denied any involvement by Lawless in Sandra's disappearance and police previously said he was not at the center of their probe.

Investigators spent so much time at the nearby church, police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said, because Huckaby was a Sunday School teacher there.

It was after Friday's second search of the church that police requested Huckaby come in for questioning.

"She gave enough information to us during the course of the interview that probable cause was there to arrest her," Sheneman said.

Huckaby's family had also been questioned at length during the investigation, and their homes and vehicles were all searched, Sheneman added.

The local newspaper, the Tracy Press, reported that Huckaby was released Thursday from Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, where she spent several days in intensive care for what she described as "internal bleeding."

Huckaby was recently convicted for petty theft in San Joaquin County, and was scheduled to appear in court on April 17 to check in with a county mental health program as part of a three-year probation sentence.

According to court records, Huckaby had claimed she was not mentally competent to stand trial in the case. The judge ordered her to be examined by physicians. Later, it was determined that she was competent and she pleaded no contest.

In an interview with the local newspaper on Friday, Huckaby said someone else by the same name was charged for the November theft from a Target store.

Huckaby was also convicted by Superior Court in Los Angeles County in November of 2006 for a petty theft in Bellflower, records showed.
