Tracygirl....Is this Police Chief fairly new or has she been the chief for a while?

The reason I am wondering is because if these other offenses (Sandra getting kissed by that pervert who still has contact w/children and MH supposedly drugging another 7 yr old) were 'taken so lightly'..then impeachment proceedings might be in order there.  However, if she is fairly new....maybe you have some 'hope' of getting that area cleaned up.

Thank you for your imput...most enlightening.  Prayers for you and yours.

She is a new police chief. I honestly do not know why the last one left. Many are hoping this one can help to straigthen out the problems they seem to have.

I do not believe it is corruption but rather a lack of experience in how to deal with high profile crimes or crimes which are serious in a criminal nature. Do you know for months our banks  were getting robbed, one right after another, why? Tracy is known for not being able to solve serious crimes.
It is like they have the attitude, well that can't happen here, or it can't be that big of a deal, this is tracy, things like this happen in the bay area.
If you read some of the comments on the Tracy press sight you will see this attitude in many of the citizens. We have had now 2 very serious crimes against children in this city which seem to be connected to a child porn influence. it can't end here. I keep saying that don't I?

hey Monkeys!

This has me baffled!
What do you think that LE found when digging under the church?  Gloves?
Why were they looking on the roof?
Could someone have set MH up?  It's hard to believe she really is stupid enough to "tell on herself" over and over.
Was FW really on video leaving that note of forgiveness from Sandra to her killer?
MH said Sandra( 8 ) was her daughter's(5) best friend.  Was Sandra immature? or her daughter mature? or is that a lie?  3 years is quite a bit of difference in age, IMO.
Why would Sandra want to run away?
What kind or relationship did she have with the adults at her home?  Would she tell them if something was going on that she was uncomfortable with?

Regarding the keys and phone being in the suitcase (if they were)...

If she left them there, she must have forgotten, that's why she went for the spare keys.  I wonder when she determined (remembered) she had left them in the suitcase?  Any chance someone else set them up?

Could she be afraid for her life, and LE is holding her for her own good.  Maybe she is complicit but had an accomplice who was really setting her up to take the fall alone (FW?)
He sure was inserting himself, the note, the suitcase lie (garage sale story), etc...

Just random thoughts I'm having.  I just can't wrap my head around Melissa doing this all by herself, wrap it up in a pretty bow (confession) and call it a day.

It is not going to end here, people are focused on Tracy, and being that I live in So Ca, I am very concerned about this child porn and so are many other people I'm sure across this country. I believe there must be tremendous pressure on Tracy LE, and hopefully things will get cleaned up in your town. I want to believe that if there is a connection to Kyle and Sandra with child porn, that Kyle did not suffer in vain, and Sandra did not die in vain. That something will be done, at least that is what I hope and pray. And I know you stated you were going to the public memorial, will it be televised?

Sheneman said:

1.  There is NO reason to believe Sandra Cantu's body is in that luggage (4/6/09)
2.  I don't know where the rumors are coming from, there is no arrest immenant (4/10/09pm) Melissa arrested a few hours late.
3.  Melissa Huckaby is arrested for the kidnapping and murder of Sandra - she acted alone - no other arrests coming. (4/11/09)

I like Sheneman but sometimes he doesn't tell us what is really going on, likely due to the ongoing investigation.  I will be really surprised if this doesn't involve other people.

Sheneman appeared to be giving both Melissa and Clover Road Baptist Church credibility when he stated at least three times that Melissa was a Sunday School teacher.

Klaas ... we will have to agree to disagree ... I DO NOT like Sheneman.  I contend his press conferences only reveal a watered-down version of what has already been released to the media and ... nothing new.

Janet

Hiya Miss Janet,

Nice to see you and ducky! Smile

I like the Sgt.
I think he has a hard job and doing the best he can do under the circumstances.
He's torn between protecting the investigation so Sandra Cantu and her family can get justice once this goes to trial and giving the community answers that they desperately want and deserve.

He's a member of that community, his children goes to Sandra's and her sister's school. He feels their pain and he is trying to do his best to answer what questions he can.

jmo

hugs to you and ducky

Hi pink angel

Considering the allegations that his position dictates he is privy to ... I can bet that Sheneman kids were never have been placed in Melissa Huckaby's Sunday School class or ... Frank Wohler's Karate class.  However ... there are unsuspecting parents out there who are entrusting their precious children to these two pedators.  Children are being put at risk.

If only Sandra Cantu's mother had been made aware that Melissa Huckaby had been questioned in a drugging incident that involved a child.  If only ...

Something is not right in Tracy.

Janet

I totally agree with you Janet. It's scary.

The police can't go announcing to the public everyone they question or suspect of crimes. That pesky constitution can be a pain.

The police did investigate the kissing incident. They must have decided not to charge him for whatever reason.(I would have!)
If I was Sandra's parents, I sure would have let every parent in that park know about it, regardless.

They investigated the child being drugged and just because Melissa was questioned, doesn't mean she was guilty. (although I am sure she was) Why she wasn't charged? I don't know.

The police did not investigate the kissing incident unless asking the guy why he did it is an investigation. It ended there, after all he is a business man in our communtiy and he was just being nice.

It's possible that a child may ingest something that's left out and available. I doubt a child Sandra's (or the other girl's) age would be fully cognizant of the risk. It's also possible that another child may have coaxed or tricked the one who took the drugs into taking the drugs. Many children think drugs are candy.

This is a terrible thing to confess but my little brother and I used to be terrorized by a neighborhood bully every day on our way to school because we had to walk past his house. He would steal our lunches and knock our stuff to the ground and he would beat on my little brother.

I don't know why we decided to handle the situation ourselves without involving adults but that's what we did. I knew where my Grandma hid her "liver pills" that looked just like red hots candy. I had my brother climb up to the top shelf and get them and he put a handful in his pocket and we set off for school.

Sure enough, the bully stopped us, stole our lunches and demanded anything else we had. My brother started "crying" that he didn't want to give up his "candy" so the bully forced his hand into my brother's pocket, grabbed some of the pills and shoved them in his mouth. When he crunched down on them, they must have tasted really nasty because he got a shocked look on his face and ran screaming for his house.

Later, the school principal called me into his office and asked me what kind of pills did we give to little Johnny? I told the principal he needed to ask the right question and I'd answer it. So I got around to telling how this kid was violent and dangerous and forced his hand into my brother's pocket and stole those pills by force. We didn't give him anything.

But, we knew he'd try to steal them.

Anyway, my long post is just trying to illustrate that sometimes kids do stuff that's dangerous without realizing the consequences.

I'm not saying the adult involved DIDN'T on purpose drug a child, only trying to come up with a scenario where she might have had something to do with it and NOT face criminal charges.

And my Grandma's "liver pills" were actually just a mild laxative. Bet Johnny had no problems with constipation for a few days after picking on us... something he never did ever again.

'Disbelief'
by Jennifer Wadsworth

The arrest of a Sunday school teacher suspected of kidnapping and murdering 8-year-old Tracy girl Sandra Cantu came as an “absolute shock” to the victim’s family, they told reporters this morning.

“I can’t imagine a mother doing this to a child,” said Sandra’s uncle, Joe Chavez, of 28-year-old murder suspect Melissa Huckaby, who has a 5-year-old daughter of her own. “There will never be closure.”

The arrest brings at least some reprieve to an emotional ordeal that has gripped Tracy and the nation since Sandra’s March 27 disappearance. Farmworkers on Monday found the little girl’s fully clothed body stuffed inside a black suitcase — a piece of luggage Huckaby says belonged to her.

Police said they found the spot where Huckaby allegedly killed the Jacobson Elementary School second-grader who used to play with Huckaby’s own daughter, but they refused to disclose the location.

The suspect never once mentioned a motive in the course of her interview with investigators earlier this morning. Police said at one point she asked for an attorney but then changed her mind and kept talking to detectives. She was read her rights twice, Sheneman said.

“I can’t begin to theorize what her motive was,” said Tracy police Sgt. Tony Sheneman today, at times fighting back emotion. “Sandra was a very close friend with her daughter.”

When asked what the family's reaction was to Huckaby's arrest, he answered, "Disbelief."

Police had since Monday tried to pin down Sandra’s killer. They interviewed everyone in Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, where Sandra lived with her grandparents, mother and siblings. Huckaby lived there, too, with her daughter and grandparents just five doors down from Sandra’s house.

Police served several search warrants, towed cars, questioned hundreds of people and never named a suspect — until Friday night’s arrest. Huckaby’s grandparents run a church down the street from the park, where Huckaby said she had taught Sunday school for six months.

Investigators interviewed Huckaby twice before Thursday, they said. The asked her to come in for a third interview after Huckaby in a Tracy Press article shared information inconsistent with what she told police, Sheneman said.

“The fact that a lot of the statements made to the Tracy Press conflicted with other reports … brought to light inconsistencies” that prompted police to ask her in for another interview, Sheneman said at a press briefing this morning.

Huckaby on Friday afternoon spoke for more than 40 minutes to the Tracy Press about how she believed someone took her black rolling Eddie Bauer suitcase from her driveway the same day and in the same hour Sandra was last seen alive.

She flatly denied she had a criminal record, despite court papers showing she was due in court for sentencing after pleading no contest to a felony burglary/robbery and a misdemeanor petty theft. She also denied having graduated from West High School in 1998, despite school district records that say she did.

Court papers also show that two psychiatrists had to interview Huckaby to see if she was fit to stand trial on charges that she stole from Target last November. The deemed her fit for trial. She spent some time in 2006 behind bars in Los Angeles County for property theft, court papers show, yet she denied that, too.

In an interview with police that began at 7 p.m. and ended with her arrest at 11:55 p.m. Friday, she shared details about Sandra’s disappearance and subsequent murder that gave cops probable cause to arrest her shortly before midnight Friday, Sheneman said.

She blatantly lied to the few reporters she talked to Friday, he said earlier. That’s what led to the extra scrutiny.

During the five-hour interview with investigators, Sheneman said Huckaby was "very relaxed for a bit, then she became very emotional, and then she became relaxed again, and then became resigned to what was happening.”

Police were unsure until the suspect’s public admission to the Tracy Press on Friday that the black suitcase containing Sandra’s remains belonged to Huckaby, Sheneman said.

Huckaby was booked at the San Joaquin County Jail where she is held without bail. An arraignment is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Manteca, but the date might change.

Dozens of onlookers joined reporters this morning to hear Sheneman talk about the break in the case that led to Huckaby’s arrest.

Several bystanders said they were first of all stunned that the alleged killer is a woman. Statistically, in the case of a murder and abduction, that’s unlikely, Sheneman said.

“It’s an anomaly in the murder of a child,” he said.

But more than shock, friends and family of the murdered girl said it’s the grief that’s so overwhelming.

“Nothing we have done and nothing we can say will return Sandra to the community,” Sheneman said. “There’s no joy in this.”

A few people burst into tears after the announcement, including 26-year-old Amber Austin, of Stockton. As a mother of two children, the arrest of a woman Sunday school teacher only made her more fearful for her own family’s safety, she said.

“The frightening thing is that they knew each other,” she said of Huckaby and Sandra. “It’s hard for me to think that here this person she knew could be responsible. I mean we don’t know, but she could be. That’s scary.”

Galeana Alcaraz, 10, went to school with Sandra. Her eyes welled up with tears when she talked about the past couple weeks, filled, she said, with uncertainty and then sadness.

“I used to play with her,” said the fifth-grader, who stood calmly outside the mobile home park with her family. “Sandra was kind and funny. She was a good person.”

Sandra’s uncle spoke to reporters after the press conference this morning to say that his family will never feel fully satisfied even if authorities convict someone.

“We will never feel closure,” Joe Chavez said, calling for the death penalty for whoever murdered his niece. “We will have to live the rest of our lives without Sandra.”

Everything I've been wondering, you have just typed. IMO, there is more going on and Melissa did not act alone. Actually I'm more confused then ever, and this Williams creep, something more is going on with him. And I want to know also, why CSI was on that roof of the church. The crawl space under the church, they found gloves, wonder if they found anything else? I would like to know what Williams and his wife do for a living, they have a very nice home.

What I am wondering about is the interest in the storage shed on the church property. Could it be that the suitcase and Sandra were stored there for a period of time before it was put in the pond? The PD have gone back to it multiple times. Or could Sandra have been drugged and locked inside until whoever was ready for her? Creeps me just to type that. But it just seemed like they were REALLY interested in THAT building.

We might add..

Interjected herself into the investigation.

Having prior criminal record.

And add whatever that hospitalization thing was about.

Also, wonder what time that bed or other evidence was removed from the church, and if the evidence was taken as a result of her confession (probably was).  That evidence would be needed to corroborate her confession.

Also, it was very telling that the monkeys picked up the grandmother's statement as to the "abused" and murdered.  She knows something for sure.

Melissa's uncle too! I posted a page or two back a link to an interview where he said ....That whoever took Sandra should man'up or woman'up and turn themselves in.

That was Sandra's uncle, not Melissa's. It was at a press conference.

OMG, OBG what a story, you and your brother were really smart, I would have never thought to do that.  Hope the bully had to stay in the bathroom for days. And, I do see your point, I look back at some of the things we did as kids, and I didn't think something bad would happen, because of my actions.

If Melissa Huckaby's cell and keys were in the suitcase ... it appears that Melissa's used her grandmother to support her alibi.

Did Melissa's grandmother obstruct the investigation by providing a false statement to investigators regarding the call she allegedly made to her granddaughter at the church imply the cell and keys had been found.

Exclusive: Woman in mobile home park reported missing suitcase
by Jennifer Wadsworth

Huckaby then set the packed suitcase on the driveway by her dark purple Kia SUV — the same one FBI agents and Tracy police detectives towed and searched Tuesday night. But she forgot her cell phone and keys inside the house, so she went back in for about 15 minutes to find them. She couldn’t, so she picked up the spare key and left.

She forgot about the suitcase and left it on the driveway.

When she got to the church, Huckaby’s grandmother called and said she found her keys and cell phone. Huckaby said that’s when she realized she had left the $200 suitcase outside. When her family went out to get it, they said it was gone.

“So I talked to the assistant manager at the mobile home park and asked him to keep an eye out for this suitcase; someone took it,” Huckaby said. “I also told some older kids to look out for it. I didn’t think much then, because, you know, kids were getting out of school, and I thought that maybe someone, maybe someone walking by, just took it.”

'Disbelief'
by Jennifer Wadsworth

She flatly denied she had a criminal record, despite court papers showing she was due in court for sentencing after pleading no contest to a felony burglary/robbery and a misdemeanor petty theft.

The parts I highlighted could all be indicative of the behavior of a drug user.

We don't know what the grandmother said to investigators regarding the cellphone and keys.

Only what Melissa said happened.

She told several mistruths to the press. She is much like Casey.

What a dumb broad!!

What a dumb monster!

Edit:
That was Sandra's uncle, not Melissa's. It was at a press conference.

Wow, Thanks Pink...I must have been speed-reading....I thought you were talking about Sandra's uncle as we have seen statement's by him before.

Where does Melissa's uncle live?  Wonder where her parents are?  Guess it is her dad that is the Lawless's son.

This is difficult to believe that this woman did this all by herself.
Any why was she questioned about drugging children before and nothing happened ?
..
I know of a case here where a private daycare provider bit a kid.
Daycare agency contacted. They sent the pictures to a doctor who  looked at the mark, says, adult bite mark. Assault charges laid. Woman denied it. No witnesses except the other little kids. After much legal wrangling etc. the charges were dropped as the case was weak. However, the lady is on a child abuse registry, can't have contact with kids. No more daycare at her house. If she ever tries to do any type of paid or not paid work with kids, too bad, get away from the cookie jar b&8th.
..
Drugging kids ? WhyTF was she even allowed near her own kid ? What is up with her damn GP's ? Enablers ? Blind ? There is a story here and if I lived in Tracy, I would demand some answers. Who are the Tracy 60 ? Why are they still around on the loose ?
