Pink or anyone,

Is there a press conference scheduled yet?  Maybe then they will tell us at least the LE theory on motive.  I am very troubled over what the motive could have been.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/04/11/california.girl.arrest/

--snipped--

Police would not reveal what led to Huckaby's arrest, but said it followed questioning. They did not offer a possible motive.

This is all i can find about a motive so far...still looking though.

No other arrests were made, and Sheneman offered no other details but said he would have a press conference at 10 a.m. today.

You have to wonder Nut, although the cops said the don't expect any more arrests they have kept this whole investigation pretty close to the chest.

They may not want to tip anyone off or they may be wanting any other POI's to feel relaxed, hoping they will tip their own hand...

Melissa Huckaby is some sort of POI by her own admission. This internal bleeding thing is a good bit odd and I'm sure the police know exactly what type of internal bleeding this could or would be.

Doesn't sound like female problems due to a variety of causes we all know about, but possibly some type of injury. I guess we may never really know unless she is named a suspect due to privacy laws and rightfully so.

I did find it extremely interesting that the police have never really confirmed that the suitcase was reported stolen, or if they did I missed it. But in turn someone volunteered that info. Very suspect if you ask me and the suitcase is reportedly a similar case. Very very interesting.

Either way - this case and who killed Sandra is move in a competent direction and I don't think it will be much longer until it all comes together and the explanation will be front and center.

Rob- I just wanted to say it is nice to see you and I enjoy your insightful posts. I think I may have even wondered "aloud" where you were to weigh in on this case.
Without hesitation, we have everything we need here between Melissa and Williams. Connecting the dots between these 2 is already established, How do they fit with the other POI's?

That didn't take long!

Wow! I am freaking out! WHY??? why would she do such a thing?
I feel relieved that we know who did it, just not why....
this explains perhaps why she was still fully clothed, even down to her flip flops!
I wonder if that suitcase had a name tag on it? something about that suitcase led the LE to this woman...

great work LE! Now Melissa needs to pay for what she did!

I was just watching CBS news this morning and the stress this community has been under is overwhelming to the children.  They were talking to this little girl and she was saying something like they have to catch the man who did this because he could take one of us.  She then broke down and started to cry in her moms arms.  Very sad and I'm relieved they made an arrest.

One of the comments i found interesting was that maybe the internal bleeding was the result of an attempted suicide???

That would make alot of sense....if you overdose on drugs can this cause internal bleeding????

Does anyone remember the Judith Ann Neely case?  Female was kidnapping victims for a male.  I do wonder if as Nut read others or another is involved.

This is such a senseless tragedy.  Why on earth did this woman do this!

I remember Judith! Her husband blamed her, she cried she was the victim...what a monster. Both of them. Karla Fay Tucker was another nutter.

-----------------------------------
Huckaby told the Tracy Press that she and her 5-year-old daughter had lived for the past year with her grandparents and that on March 27 Sandra had stopped by her house and asked to play with her daughter. Huckaby said she’d said no, because her daughter needed to pick up her toys and that Sandra went to another friend’s home.

Huckaby’s dark purple Kia SUV was towed and searched by police Tuesday night.

When she talked to the Tracy Press Friday, she said she wasn’t the same Melissa Huckaby who pleaded no contest Jan. 9 to a felony charge of second-degree commercial burglary and a misdemeanor charge of petty theft after being arrested in November 2008 for trying to steal something from Target. She had been examined by doctors and was deemed mentally competent to stand trial. She was due back in court next week for sentencing.

The criminal complaint also shows she was locked up in Los Angeles County for conviction of property theft in 2006.

Huckaby was released Thursday from Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, where she spent several days in the intensive care unit for what she described as “internal bleeding.” Police were stationed at the hospital during her stay.

internal bleeding COULD be cause by a medication like Motrin if taken in a high enough doses. I would guess it would take like 5000mg inimum. 2500mg causes severe stomach pain but not enough to cause bleeding. So, she would need a high doses.

I wasn't thinking suicide attempt because the injury was internal - but if pills were used - it could explain it all.

Also reported on FOX just moments ago Melissa had previously claimed mentally incompetent in a previous case. That was denied.

She was probably hoping that being in the hospital or being sick would keep her ass out of jail.

Just a thought.

Or maybe she thought suicide attempt would get her an insanity plea for what she had done to Sandra?

Calif. Sunday school teacher booked in child death

By TERRY COLLINS – 12 minutes ago

TRACY, Calif. (AP) — A Sunday school teacher was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and killing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, whose body was found in a suitcase in an irrigation pond.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was arrested at 11:55 p.m. Friday, about five hours after she drove herself to the local police station at the request of officers, said police Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

"She gave enough information to us during the course of the interview that probable cause was there to arrest her," said Sheneman. No other arrests were made.

Police did not say how Sandra died or give a possible motive.

Huckaby was being held without bail at the San Joaquin County Jail, with arraignment set for Tuesday, according to the county sheriff's Web site.

Sandra disappeared on March 27 and hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials turned out to search for her. Pictures of the girl with dark brown eyes and light brown hair were posted all over Tracy, a city of 78,000 people about 60 miles east of San Francisco.

On April 6, farmworkers draining an irrigation pond found the suitcase.

The slain girl's aunt, Angie Chavez, said in a phone interview with The Associated Press early Saturday that she was happy to learn of the arrest.

"I want to know why she did it, if she did it," Chavez said.

At an early morning news conference, Tracy Police Chief Janet Thiessen said investigators had worked on the case tirelessly.

"We have information that Sandra, by the time she was reported missing to us, that she probably had already been murdered," said Thiessen.

"It has helped us to bring Sandra home, again not in the way that we would've hoped, but that was out of our hands shortly after she went missing."

Huckaby had previously told The Tracy Press that Sandra visited her home on the day of her disappearance to play with her 5-year-old daughter. But Huckaby said she'd turned Sandra away because her daughter needed to pick up her toys and Sandra went to another friend's home. Huckaby also said she had left her suitcase in the driveway that day, and that it was missing.

The Tracy Press reported that Huckaby was released Thursday from Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, where she spent several days in intensive care for what she described as "internal bleeding."

Huckaby is a granddaughter of Pastor Clifford Lawless, whose Clover Road Baptist Church was the subject of a police search. Huckaby taught Sunday school at the church and lived with Lawless in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park that also was Sandra's home.

Lawless did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Saturday.

Huckaby's family had been questioned at length during the investigation, and their home and vehicles had been searched, Sheneman said.

Huckaby was scheduled to appear in court on April 17 to check in with a county mental health program as part of a three-year probation sentence for a petty theft she pleaded no contest to. In an interview with the newspaper on Friday, Huckaby said someone else by the same name was facing charges for the attempted November theft from Target.
