Such was their gut feeling that McClintic and her boyfriend were somehow involved in the youngster's disappearance – the reason they had quietly called in a tip to a police hotline, a week after Tori vanished, and then physically attended at the station to follow through on their suspicions.

From the article above...I wonder if the police took the neighbors seriously and if Terri was on their radar early on?

I really hope so Pink.  I hope she was arrested on parole violation because they were watching her extra close.  Rafferty sound like he could have lied a lot.  He was telling everyone he worked construction, but the one article says he worked in a  meat packing plant.  All his on line dating bios says he wants to be a paramedic....just weird

Filed under: Risk, Dan Gardner, Tori Stafford, abduction
The drama of Victoria Stafford's disappearance seems to have ended in the worst way. The eight-year-old Woodstock, Ont., girl went missing more than a month ago, an apparent abduction. Today, police have laid murder charges against a couple in Victoria's hometown, and a search is underway for the little girl's body.

Abduction stories like this keep parents up at night. It is a terrifying thing. It's times like this that I long for the reassurances of my friend and colleague Dan Gardner. Citizen readers know that Dan is an expert on risk and the science of fear. Dan knows better than anyone that the abduction and murder of little children are exceedingly rare events. Dan would advise that if you want to stay up at night worrying about your children, then worry about their getting killed in a car accident or contracting diabetes from obesity — risks that are actually real, rather than the microscopic risk of being kidnapped on the street, as Victoria was.

I get this. I can read statistics. The likelihood that any child I know will be abducted and murdered is about as small as the chance that I'll be selected in the NBA draft.

But that's the head talking. The story of Victoria Stafford hits us in another place. As much as I've tried, I can't quite call up my inner Mr. Spock — my rational, logical side — and convince myself that there's nothing to fear.

Women rarely aid abduction, killing of kids, expert says

If it seemed particularly jarring to see a woman arrested alongside a man in the abduction and murder of 8-year-old Victoria Stafford yesterday, there's good reason.

Women so rarely collaborate in the kidnapping and killing of children that criminologists likely haven't even studied the phenomenon, according to a University of Toronto expert.

Despite the arrest Tuesday night of Terri-Lynne McClintic, 18, as an accomplice in the abduction and death of the Woodstock girl, it's almost always men alone who commit these crimes, says U of T criminologist Rosemary Gartner

"(It's) extremely rare as far as any of the literature I know," Gartner says of female involvement in such cases. When women do collaborate with men in kidnap-killings – as Karla Homolka did with Paul Bernardo in the murders of two St. Catharines girls in the 1990s – they tend to prey on teenagers, she says.

And even when these collaborations do occur, there's little academic agreement on the woman's motivation, says Gartner, an expert on female offenders.

"There's a lot of debate over the extent to which this was a freely chosen act by the female," she says. "How much of it was coerced? How much of it was simply to please in order to keep the guy?"

But, she says, some theorize, women join in willingly and that coercion is projected by a society unsettled by females in that role.

When women do abduct children, it's typically because they want to keep them, Gartner says.

She adds women are far less likely than men to commit violent crimes and "the more serious the violent crime, the bigger the gap."

When it comes to sex crimes against children, women are also rarely involved, Gartner says. The arrest of a woman in the abduction, rape and murder of a California girl last month is a stark exception.

Interesting pictures with the bandana over her face.  Several of them with different expressions.  Wonder what the significant is.

wonder what it was exactly that made the neighbors so suspicious? thank goodness they followed their hinky meters and turned her/them in....
does she resemble the sketch? has anyone seen them like side by side? the white coat and cutting her hair was a giveaway to the neighbors apparently...

Teen's Accessory Charge In Tori Stafford Case May Be Upgraded To Murder
Thursday May 21, 2009
CityNews.ca Staff

The horrid details of Victoria Stafford's abduction and murder may not become public knowledge for quite some time, but reports are suggesting the charges against one of the individuals currently in custody may be upgraded.

Eighteen-year-old Terri-Lynne McClintic is accused of taking part in the abduction of the girl.  Police also contend she helped accused killer Michael Thomas Rafferty elude police.

On Wednesday she was charged with Accessory After The Fact To Murder, and Abduction Of A Person Under Sixteen.

Sources reveal the charge of Accessory is likely to be upgraded to Murder, but that hasn't been confirmed by police.

It was also earlier reported that McClintic was an acquaintance of Tori's mother

CP24 just reported there will be a news conference in front of Tara's house shortly.  They are not confirming the rumours that Terri-Lynne's charges may have been changed this morning.   It is rumoured that she had also been charged with first degree murder as of today.

Newsnet is reporting that search is now concentrating around Fergus.  There is also a lot of commotion in front of Tara's house anticipating the news conference.

They all look like my friend Alicia!  Those damn painted on eyebrows.

What I find strange is the sketch of the abductor looks 35-40 years old.  We know Terri is 18-19?

IMO she doesn't look 18-19 on film either.  Maybe the harder life that she has had makes her look a little older.  I always have a hard time judging peoples ages.  Maybe the witness is younger and therefore would think that she looked 35-40.

Did anyone hear if the car that they were looking for from the video was connected in any way?  Boy, OPP sure are tight lipped with the info!
