Discuss what changes should be made to the timeline here
Great idea this timeline thread.
i suggest keep it simple at first, follow the timeline points made in Loving Natalee...and maybe move on to points in the movie.
as the new readers that come to SM become more educated on the initial timelines, add more depth that will be progressed by the new posters....
Baby steps at first that can be ramped up relatively quick to keep pace with the forums level of understanding....JMO

And Janet/Lifesong...great point about staying positive for keeping the new members that may hang out in the rafters initially after the movie...sometimes we all become cynical about rafter hangers particularly when no news for long periods of time.....
But I'm hoping a new influx of  concerned members will join in helping to get JUSTICE for NATALEE....they are most welcomed......

CORRUPTION IN PARADISE - DAVE HOLLOWAY

Aruba: The Tragic Untold Story of Natalee Holloway and Corruption in Paradise (Hardcover)
by Dave Holloway (Author), Larry Garrison (Author)

Product Description
From Publishers Weekly

Though nearly a year old-an eternity in media time-the story of 19-year-old Natalee Holloway's disappearance in Aruba continues to stir in the public consciousness (a new arrest was reported as recently as April 16). This latest addition to the missing girl's casefile is co-authored by her father, whose motivation for writing the book is straightforward: "I am a father who has no idea what happened to my child. ... Is she dead? Is she alive? Is she being held captive somewhere? ... I need to know." Trouble is, Holloway doesn't know. As such, there isn't enough new or complete information here to draft a true crime story, and Holloway is repeatedly frustrated in his attempts to investigate. While he remains convinced that Dutch teen Joran van der Sloot and his friends are connected to Natalee's death, Holloway also floats possible involvement by the Mafia, a sex ring, and the drug trade. The closest Halloway comes to a complete theory, "Either ... local boys chase after unsuspecting girls, drug and rape them the night before they leave ... or there is a much larger conspiracy where girls are made to disappear at the whim of some higher-ups," is too broad and unsubstantiated to generate much suspense. Sadly, those who follow the case will discover much more about the anguish of a confused and desperate father than they will about Natalee Holloway or her disappearance.

LOVING NATALEE - BETH HOLLOWAY

Loving Natalee: A Mother's Testament of Hope and Faith (Hardcover)
by Beth Holloway (Author)

Editorial Reviews
Product Description

This is the story no one should have to tell, about the nightmare no one wants to live, told by the parent no one wants to be.

In May of 2005, Beth Holloway received the worst phone call a parent can imagine. Her beautiful daughter, Natalee, had disappeared without a trace in Aruba during her high school senior class trip. Two years later, for the first time, Beth Holloway steps forward in this astonishingly candid and inspirational memoir to tell of her harrowing ordeal and her never-ending belief in the power of faith that gave her hope against all odds.

Natalee's senior class picture was splashed across the front pages of the country's newspapers and on television. Desperate for a clue as to her daughter's whereabouts, Beth and an army of faithful volunteers searched tirelessly for the missing eighteen-year-old. In their pursuit of Natalee, they encountered many roadblocks. As the horror stretched out, Beth stood on her foundation of faith, which at times was all she had to give her strength against a barrage of unbearable questions with no answers.

Natalee's disappearance remains unsolved and her location unknown to this day. Beth's search continues.

About the Author

Beth Holloway is the mother of Natalee Holloway, who vanished on the last night of her senior class trip on May 30, 2005. To this day Beth continues to search for the truth of what happened. She grew up in Arkansas, then lived and worked in Tennessee, Mississippi, and finally Alabama where she now lives with her son, Matt. Today Beth addresses schools, churches, law enforcement groups, and other organizations on personal and travel safety.

Lifesong

Maybe we could submit quotes from each book authored by Natalee Holloway's parents ... quotes that imply that from Dave and Beth's perspective that:

1.  Joran, Deepak, Satish and Paulus were participants in the events that encompass the morning when their daughter went missing and was never see again.

2.  The Aruban investigation had a coverup agenda to protect Joran and Paulus.

Just a suggestion.

Lifesong ... I believe that any presentation should be simply done so that the reader who does not have an indepth knowledge will grasp in one sitting the dynamics surrounding the Natalee Holloway story ... the dynamics that imply that this is not about a crime against a missing American on foreign soil ... crime happens everywhere.  It is about a corrupt Aruban investigation that has prevented justice from prevailing since May 30, 2005.

When I addressed "Lifesong" in the preceding posts ... I should have adressed "Monkeys".  ANY presentation will require lots of input.

I will chime in with ya'll.....

I say start with the set of pictures from Kyle with the super-imposed image
of Natalee.  It is an attention getter and SHOCKING.

Magnolia ... do you believe that the Perception deception should be the foundation of a presentation rather than the books authored by Natalee's parents?

I like the idea.

Yes, as long as it is kept simple and easy to follow.
The Persistence deception is the follow up to Natalee's story.

I completely agree on both points, Janet.

Simple, concise pieces of quickly comprehensible information is where its at!  And everyone so inclined - please help!

I like the idea of quoting from Beth and Dave's perspectives via their books.

Also, maybe separate compilations of short quotes encompassing the words/deeds of Joran, Deepak, VanderStraten/Dompig, Jansen/Mos?

???

The quickest way to timeline the first year would be through the news articles still available on the web - the trick is to link instead of copy text to keep it shorter to read - and to choose the best article available (preferably only one) for each event included.  I think selective choosing of those events is in order too?

Again, ???

I agree too.  I'm not sure we shouild lead with it, but I think the one thing we can do that the movie probably wasn't able to, is to show that the coverup continues to this day.  People need to know that.

I also think we need to give them some course of action to take to say they want justice for Natalee (Somebody Knows the Truth), whether that is links to contact the Dutch officials, Brinkman, et. al., or our new secretary of state/administration (as I was thinking last week) or anyone else we can think of that could apply pressure.

I do not know where to begin.

Is there a good chronological outline of the main events?  From there we could begin to locate related articles, interview, etc.

Maybe we could look at the Natalee's Freebirds' documents.  It could be a lot of the work has already been done.

I too think a lot of the work has already been done - its just a matter of finding it!

ARUBA: THE TRAGIC UNTOLD STORY OF NATALEE HOLLOWAY AND CORRUPTION IN PARADISE
By Dave Holloway

1.  Dave Holloway arrives on the Island to find that Aruban Law Enforcement refuses to take the disappearance of his daughter seriously.

Page 9

In fact, he (Dennis Jacobs) was so confident that she was just partying it up or on drugs that he told us this particular bar would be the best place to find her. However, he did warn us to watch our drinks very carefully, adding that sometimes people put drugs into them.

2.  Dave Holloway suspect that Aruban Law Enforcement is tampering with the official witness statements.

Page 183

I commented to Jacobs about how short my statement was. He said that I could add anything I wanted to it. Also, I noticed that Eric Soemers's name was on it, but that detective was not even present during the interview. Now I wondered if Jacobs was making up everyone's statement and getting Eric to sign on to them. If that were the case, he could state anything he wanted, and it would look like an official statement made in front of a witness.

[LOVING NATALEE: A MOTHER'S TESTAMENT OF HOPE AND FAITH
By Beth Holloway

1.  Beth Holloway learns almost immediately after arriving on the Island of Aruban that the last person who was with her daughter prior to disappearing had lied to the Mountain Brook students.

Page 39

Following our brief conversation, we all walk immediately to the fronT desk to ask about someone named Joran who is staying in the hotel and plays in the casino here.  The Holiday Inn night manager, Brenda, knows him by name.  "Oh! yes ... yes ... Joran.  He gambles in the Excelsior Casino here.  He likes to prey on young female tourists.  Especially the blonds.   He is tall.  Good-looking boy.  Like a Dutch marine."   My mouth drops wide open.  "Where is he from?" I ask her.  She replies.  "He lives in Aruba."  I stutter.  "He's ... he's not a tourist just here for the summer?"  "Non, non," she says.

It takes a few moments to absorb this information.  The supposed tourist who befriended some of Natalee's classmates and who told them he was staying at their hotel lied to them.  He isn't a tourist.  He isn't staying here.

2.  Beth Holloway learned that Aruba has an agenda to protect the suspects from implication in the disappearance of her daughter.

Page 157/158

No one is breathing. Or Moving. Reporters and camera people are crying. The media hve been here more than a month, and they’ve seen firsthand what we’ve experienced. They are moved by this plea. But some of the Arubans are not. Calling their local sons “criminals” offends them. Having just heard the prosecuting attorney tell us at least one of the Kalpoes could be involved in whatever happened to my daughter. I felt the term seemed appropriate. But it led to an abrupt change in the tide of support."

"Not long after the “criminals speech,” some Arubans back off their prayer vigils for Natalee. A few protest in the streets against the barage of negative media. We’ve worn out our welcome at the Holiday Inn. And they let us know they’ve had it. The Aruban Tourism Authority (ATA), the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA), the Aruba Trade and Industry Association and a scattering of island officials establish the Strategic Communications Task Force to combat the negative media. And to combat us.

If the reader you are aiming at is someone who happens by after seeing the movie on Sunday,
you have way too much information there already.

It is like a resume'.

You cannot educate them until you get their attention.

Make a list.....number it, so that it is easy to follow.

We have absorbed this information slowly over four years.  It is too much for one easy lesson.

I just do not know where to start.

Maybe we should have started something sooner.

Daughter and grandkids just arrived unexpectly.  I was thinking of making up a spagetti meat sauce and warm some sissor buns for dinner but ... I think MacDonald's is where it is at.

I think Key times, like the search that was kept outta the main house and the individuals present at the time is,very key for me!Dates and times of Key rulings from judges, how it benefited the suspects,as well as their relationships with Paulus! That's my 2cents for now..
