There's some locals discussing the case at topix, some don't have very nice things to say about Peter B: http://www.topix.com/forum/city/rochester-ny/T38DVS34TS0KNDS4P/p26

Missing NY teen’s family continues search in Georgetown
By Aisha Khan
WBTW Reporter
Published: May 18, 2009

Family of Brittanee Drexel hit the area of Georgetown again today near Front Street. Drexel’s grandmother Carol Wagner tells News 13 that they are concentrating on the same area again because that’s where her grand daughter’s cell phone signal was picked up more than two weeks ago.

Wagner continued by saying that the family plans to hand out flyers and business cards with Drexel’s information to truckers coming into and going out of the state.

Wagner also added that family and friends have so far passed out hundreds of business cards to bikers at several stops in North Myrtle Beach, Surfside and Murrell’s Inlet.

One Harley Davidson customer said Wagner even added information about Drexel on a biker website.

Drexel was last seen on April 25th leaving the Blue Water Hotel on Ocean Blvd.

Several search crews from Georgetown Sheriff’s office, Myrtle Beach Police and Charleston County including Community United Effort or CUE scoured parts of Georgetown, McClellanville and Charleston County for eleven days before calling off the search on May 9th.

Last week Myrtle Beach Police were working off of a tip, with another possible sighting of the missing New York teenager
According to Capt. David Knipes, someone called police to report seeing a girl matching Drexel’s description getting into a car at the Scotchman store at the corner of Old Highway 544 and Socastee Boulevard around 8:30 a.m.

Police investigation turned up no results.

Drexel’s family will be going back out on Tuesday to McClenllanville and Charleston County to continue with the search efforts.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 918-1382.

Wouldnt you think if a stranger had picked her up and killed her, they would have found the body by now??

Not necessarily so. There are many stranger abductions where the person/body hasn't been found.

Search for missing teen Brittanee Drexel comes to Charleston
Cleve Bryan
Published: May 19, 2009

Parents of missing teen Brittanee Drexel plan to start their search in Charleston S.C. around 2 pm on Tuesday. The 17-year-old went missing from the Myrtle Beach area about 3 weeks ago.

Brittanee’s mom Dawn Drexel went back to the family’s New York home over the weekend for another child’s birthday, but returned to Myrtle Beach and is extending the search further South.

Brittanee was last spotted leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel on April 25 and her cell phone was traced to Georgetown. Days of searching Georgetown produced little results but Dawn Drexel and Brittanee’s grandmother Carol Wagner remain determined.

Anyone with information on Brittanee Drexel’s whereabouts should contact their local police department.

Prayers to Brittanee!

Search for Brittanee Moves South

Last Update: 7:41 am

(Charleston, S.C.) -- The search for Brittanee Drexel has moved to Charleston, South Carolina.

The teen from Chili disappeared more than three weeks ago in Myrtle Beach.

As the active search is off there for now, so the family plans to take their effort further south.

The trail is running cold as any new leads or tips in the search are coming up empty. But, her family remains determined, willing to walk the streets for as long as it takes to find her.

Drexel’s grandmother, Carol Wagner, said, “Every time we get a sighting we just get a cringe, we are just hoping and praying it’s her. There has to be some closure, we have to find her.”

Brittanee’s mother, Dawn Drexel, came back to South Carolina after spending the weekend home with her other two children.

“It’s hard to leave my children back home. They want me to find Brittanee too, and it just brings tears to your eyes. Everyone back home misses Brittanee; we just want her home safe,” she said.

Brittanee was last spotted leaving a Myrtle Beach hotel on April 25, her cell phone signal led police to Georgetown, but a three day search ended with nothing, the family says moving deeper into the low country could take them one step closer to bringing her home.

Police hold meetings with the family every other day to keep them up to date   but, recently, there has been very little information.

The MySpace looks to be hers.  Here is the last log-in info, but it could have been by police or family members trying to find information.....so don't get your hopes up.

FWIW, Brian Ladd (from Briansdreams.com) had said originally that Brittanee was in Mt. Pleasant.  I don't put much weight in his claims but it is interesting none the less.

Drexel's Family Searches the Lowcountry

Mount Pleasant, SC - The search for a missing New York teenager moves into Mount Pleasant and Charleston area. The family of 17 year old Brittanee Drexel vows to hang on. The search that started in Myrtle Beach more than three weeks ago has now moved to our area. This one place the family has yet to cover and when they arrived today, they quickly realized people are here to help.

From a shopping center in Mount Pleasant to the stores and restaurants along the Charleston market. Brittanee's Drexel's family and friends making sure everyone took a good look at this missing girl.

“You never know what is going to surface and you just need that one little piece,” said Al Wagner, Drexel’s grandfather. 4 Interact:

But that little piece, the answer to what happen remains a mystery. Drexel's grandparents pulled into Mount Pleasant around one o'clock and waiting was Katrina and Greg Hill, a couple new to the area, wanting to lend a hand.

“We hugged them and we just wished we could help and we feel bad they are in that situation, and we just can’t imagine,” said Katrina Hill.

It's this kind of selfless act that is making the agony of the search a little easier. Wagner says everywhere they go people are willing to help from printing off flyers to helping find the family a place to stay.

“I needed to come down here and lend my support to her and do whatever I can to help find Brittanee,” said Karen Nicholson, a family friend.

Despite the effort, the family is left to wonder. Drexel disappeared on April 25th from a Myrtle Beach hotel, and investigators are short on leads. Drexel's family covered 100 miles so far from the Grand Strand to the Lowcountry and they don't plan to stop.

One thing I worry about, and I know it has to be done to get volunteers, is the way the search area is being announced.  If someone took her, it tells them where to remover her from so they are not found.

I know this is a catch 22 and there is no real answer.  It bothers me still the same.

God bless Brittanee's family, friends, and searchers.  Please let today be the day she is found.  God keep Brittanee in your sights and keep your loving embrace on her.

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The search for a missing New York teenager is heading into its second month, after 30 days of searches throughout the South Carolina coast.

Even with no new leads, according to Myrtle Beach Police, 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel's mother and grandparents say they're still keeping their hopes up for the girl's safe return.

"We can't lose hope," said Carol Wagner, Drexel's grandmother. "She's got to be out there somewhere. Somebody has to know where she is. I can't lose hope. She's our pride and joy."

The family of the missing girl say they will return to Charleston to pass out more fliers and inform more people of Brittanee's story.

The Rochester, NY teeen disappeared from Myrtle Beach on Saturday April 25. She was vacationing with friends and was last seen leaving the Bluewater Hotel off of Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach.
