Monica Caison, founder and director of the North Carolina-based CUE Center for Missing Persons, said she has seen more than 35 false profiles using Drexel's image on social media websites since Drexel went missing in April 2009.

"This is the new wave of social media with missing person cases. The exploitation level is so high," Caison said. "It's not just happened to Brittanee. It's all the high-profile cases, especially the young girls."

One person used Drexel's photo to participate in an online promotion, and the picture wound up on a commercial that ran during the Super Bowl, Caison said. She reports the phony profiles to law enforcement officers, and they generally disappear within a week.
The fleeting impostors only light up tip lines and distract from more promising leads, Caison said. In some cases, strangers go so far as to set up websites that take donations for a missing person.

Caison worries that tips could come to those people with no law enforcement experience or connections, so she presses to get the websites taken down. On top of the investigative risks, the impostors place an extra emotional burden on family members, Caison said.

"I don't know what it is that people want to do this type of thing, but they don't understand how it destroys a family," she said.

Drexel's mother, Dawn Drexel, said she gives every tip a close and hopeful look and wonders what prompts the fake pages. She said some teenagers contacted her younger daughter, 14, saying they had locked Brittanee in a basement.
"She has a hard enough time, day by day, dealing with being a teenager and having her sister missing," Dawn Drexel said on Friday. "It's pretty sick that people do that and think nothing of it."

Missing Persons Awareness Event Held

The families of Alonzo Williams, Brittanee Drexel, and others gathered with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to hold a missing persons awareness event today. The event included the Rochester Police Department and Operation Safe Child, a group that does finger print imaging.

Organizers say the event was aimed at reminding the community that their family members are still out there.

Over the next year, News 8 and Fox Rochester will highlight missing persons cases like the ones from the event today in a segment called NY Missing. NY Missing can be found here. If you know of any cases that are in need of attention, you can send an e-mail to newsroom@rochesterhomepage.net.

On Angela's profile though there are pics of what looks just like this guy.......with children! Anywho, someone who is more familiar with this case would please take a look.

She refers to him as Ray and looking good for 51.  I believe this is the same person.

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Six months after staying tight lipped about who they were investigating as a person of interest in the disappearance of Brittanee Drexel, investigators in Myrtle Beach are releasing names.

Capt. David Knipes, spokesman for the Myrtle Beach Police Department, confirmed to WMBF News that investigators are now naming Raymond Moody, 51, of Georgetown County as a person of interest in the 2009 disappearance of New York teen Brittanee Drexel.

At the beginning of August, investigators executed a search warrant at a Georgetown motel room Moody had stayed in around the time of Drexel's disappearance. At the time, MBPD would not name Moody as a person of interest.

After the search, Knipes said the search was one of several done for the investigation and no arrests were expected as a result.

Thursday, Knipes confirmed to WMBF News that Moody received a traffic ticket in Surfside Beach on April 26, 2009, just one day after Drexel went missing.

Drexel was last seen along Ocean Boulevard around 9 p.m. on April 25, 2009. She was just 17-years-old at the time of her disappearance.

According to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office sex offender registry, Moody is a registered Adult Tier III Offender who was convicted in 1983 of rape by force, kidnapping and lewd act on a child under 14, among other charges.

He was released in June of 2004.

Thursday evening, Detective Phillip Hanna with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office confirmed to WMBF News they are also looking into Moody as a person of interest in the 2005 disappearance of Crystal Soles.

I could be wrong but somehow I don't believe that Fox pulled this update out of thin air ... an update regarding a person of interest in the time period when Brittanee initially went missing.    Could it be that stuff is going on behind the scenes ... stuff that implies that Brittanee's family may receive a measure of closure?

I agree.  Something is going on.....I wish they'd release more info.  But then again, i don't want it to hinder any conviction.  I hope and pray this is the real deal and her family gets answer, justice and Brittanee HOME.

She must have just posted that, it wasn't there yesterday when I first posted as far as I remember. Maybe she had no clue about this dude when she started seeing him. What scares me is he is pictured on her profile with children in the room.

I agree with the rest of you that something is going on.

Prayers for Brittanee's family. I can not imagine the sheer hell they are going through.

WOW, that is Moody in the pictures. I was creeped out by the one of her in the knee socks and pink bra with the comment "getting funky," that was just sick. Another thing I noticed was the picture of the bed and side view of the green pick up truck. In reading about Brittanee online, I can across a page for some guys "dream diary." He claims to have visions in the form of dreams. He mentioned a green pickup in one of his entries. He also mentioned curtains which is curious because when they went through that room he lived in back in August the article mentioned the curtains had been sprayed, though I don't recall if a sample was taken. I also wondered if he deleted his Facebook account because he follows the postings here, and saw you had posted a link... With that in mind, and if I may...

PLEASE tell us where Brittanee is... That is all we want! Tell us, call in a tip from a non-traceable payphone, or a cheap track phone with pre-paid minutes. Wear gloves and type it in a letter.. whatever form of contact you want to use.. just please tell someone how/where to find her.

If this breaks a rule or is against the posting guidelines forgive me and feel free to delete it, I will understand. It's just time to end this so the Drexel family, (and those who have come to care so much) can have closure. Brittanee is a human being, and she deserves to be buried with grace and dignity.
